This is a great drill. I've been struggling for years with rolling my wrists instead of cocking them. The club gets behind me and then I have to make all kinds of adjustments to try and get back to impact. I haven't been able to get the right feel of getting the wrists to work properly. This drill has really helped in a short period of time. Thank you! Just joined your website and looking forward to seeing more drills to help me improve in all aspects of the game.

Going to give this one a try. Always struggled with inside takeaway but still managed to get down to six handicap. Need to be more consistent and this might help. My hands always start the swing and it's so hard for me to lose this 'trigger' feeling. I was told it stems from when I was a kid and trying to generate power. Hoping this drill will help, but we'll see

This was just what I needed! Filmed myself and realized that I was coming inside as shown then coming over the top . This should be the ticket to fix it. Thanks to Andy and Piers for the great drill. Cheers MikeR.

Thanks guys, I initially had this issue a few months back, I did start to see significant improvements in both ball striking and flight as well as scores (down from mid 80's to high 70s) by using your other drill with the alignment stick as part of the grip and dragging it down the left leg as you set the wrists. I however started to develop some shanks in to my game when doing this specifically with shorter clubs like wedges. Could this be due to a disconnected takeaway and the hands moving outside the channelled area? Great videos, keep them coming, one of the best golf instructional channels on the web. Cheers, Dave.

I actually got my personal best score this weekend! A 79 at Soldier Hollow "Gold" Course in Midway, UT. I was pretty stoked to finally break 80! Still struggling with a full backswing with my driver however. Every time I try a full swing, the ball goes any direction but where I want it to. Great video guys!

Love the video guys, will certainly be giving this a go up the range. I struggle most with bringing my range hitting to the course, and I can't figure out why, anything you find that helps?

Great video as usual, really helpful. After setting the wrist what to do you mean with "winding up to the top"? You keep rotating your shoulders or you lift your arms?

Don't know how you guys do it but this video more than answers a previous question I had on ingraining a more consistent and blended motion takeaway. One question is the alignment stick placed on your toe line or in the middle of your toes? Do you ever come to the states and conduct golf clinics? Larry - San Diego
@meandmygolf.9 жыл бұрын
+blanche herron Hi Larry. Glad this was helpful! Yes through the middle of the toes. We are actually launching some schools tomorrow evening. We will post a video but if you are interested then email us info@meandmygolf.com. We have limited places and we are doing 4 schools.

Hi guys, Really struggling with my 5 and 6 irons, I am a beginner who's only really got serious about my golf in the last couple of months. I don't get to practice often maybe once a week, but thanks to your videos I'm at a stage where my driving and woods are really coming on and my shorter irons I can get a decent strike and ball flight out of them. However for the 5 and 6 irons I just tend to 'clunk' them and they only go as far as my 8 or 9, I'm not hitting them flush whatsoever. Is there any common issues you see with 5 or 6 iron that you have any tips for?
@joefletcher24659 жыл бұрын
Thanks to you guys I shot 88 on the weekend, which might sound bad to you guys, but I am 15 and my previous best score was 95. I know I have the potential to beat 80 as I hit one of my drives 275 yards as straight as an arrow but just lack consistently and I suck at putting. I also hit my irons quite well but hit right on most of my shots I am working on this drill as well which I know will improve my game. Thanks again and keep up the good work.

+Joe Fletcher Hey Joe - I've broken 80 3 times. I don't hit the ball far (240-250 off the tee) and sometimes spray my irons. But it's all short game IMO. If you can get up and down on only HALF of the holes, you shoot 81. :)
@joefletcher24659 жыл бұрын
I am good from 80 yards in with my trusty 55 degree but a 3 putt is more common than an up and down. I had a couple of gimmes from about 30-40 yards which is always nice but I just need to work on my putting.
@MrDaryboy9 жыл бұрын
Good drill. I had a similar thing happen to me. I had the old wrist roll on my takeaway. I spent all winter getting rid of it (which was very hard) and what ended up happening is I started holding on and out too much getting me very steep and not in a good position. To tell the truth, I only made the change because although the flatter wrist roll swing gave me a ton of power it was very wild at times. For two years straight I averaged 290 driving but I didn't know if it would draw or hook. Since the move away change I average probably about 270 so I lost 20 yards of distance on average but I do hit it much straighter. It's a bit of an ego killer because I was well known at my course for being a long hitter but I really want to be a scratch golfer not just a bomber. It's golf I love not long drive championships.

Just curious as to why this drill is different to the Leadbetter 'A' swing in your August video...do you think he's wrong?
@meandmygolf.9 жыл бұрын
+Peter Kelly This drill just gives you some feedback using the alignment stick that's all. Leadbetter isn't wrong now. The A swing will work for some golfers.

My most recent round was a 46. Biggest issue was my putting as I had 22 putts. First 5 holes had 17 putts but my final 4 holes was 5 putts which helped me to par the final 3 holes! Any putting drills that could help
@MrDaryboy9 жыл бұрын
+Gary Turpie From my experience most struggle greatly with putting because they are too "handsy" and don't have a connected but flowing stroke. Also, make sure you make a 1234 type cadence. 1 back, 2 thru, 3 still looking at where the ball was and 4 then you can look. This will help you keep the line you chose much better because we all struggle with looking before doing and a millisecond will change the result.

If you have a proper one piece takeaway and continue turning to the top on the same plane you began your takeaway on your wrists will actually set naturally, you should not have to consciously set them. If your thinking about when and how to set your wrists your fried.

After struggling with modern instructors, I happened to run into a coach who worked with the late Bob Toski. This coach is "old school " but his instruction and drills are from Toski. They all say the same thing, including Jim Flick Nicklaus etc...move the club back with the left arm . Why do the modern instructors not say this and talk about complicated stuff? Move the club back with the target aide arm/ hand oblique and let the weight of the club amd momentum rotate your shoulders.
