Fakarava is the place for shark diving in the wild. The sharks aren't baited or fed, they just naturally congregate in the south pass like nowhere else in the world. The south pass is known for it's abundant underwater life and we fell in love with this stunning atoll on our last video: • Surrounded by SHARKS 🦈...
OMG there are soo many sharks here, so naturally we decide to push our comfort zone a littler further: Let's go night diving with the sharks! Yep, brilliant idea.

I don't have the guts to dive at night in this place like you did because I know about the feeding frenzy. White tips, Black Tips, Lemons are all very cool sharks to swim around. I mean, there are very few shark attacks at all, but these are really not aggressive species. But there are several docs that show how those reefs become at night. They all work together to hunt and them an accident can happen. But it's like your friend said, the night before everything was calm. It's also a lucky thing, right? Definitely an adventure of a lifetime :)

Great shots of a large aggregation of big tigers, shot in and out of the water......he survived.....still dont do this at home kids.

I agree... I never understand that stat. People do not live in the sea with sea life. The stats, to me mean that most people are in a few feet of water for a short while and get a bite or are attacked, and most stats are based on that. Let's drop a million people into open water and see what happens.. Just like the uss indianapolis!!! How many went in and how many survived??

According to your final comment about safety , following your philosophical comment , you could have stayed in the water ! It was as safe as the boat , right ? Yes , during WWII the U.S. NAVY did studies about colors that attract sharks . It was observed that the color yellow was the most popular . They called it "yum yum yellow" ! Black and white stripes was ignored , probably because of the deadly venomous sea snake ! You may want to change the color of your air tanks ! Thanks for sharing 😎🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴

Fantastic footage and courage, guys. You consistently bring us the best! However, being a surfer, the commonly used statistic of being more likely hurt or killed by a lightening strike or vending machine, etc. is a little misleading. Nearly everyone on earth (billions) is exposed to lightening strikes and vending machines, etc., yet only a relative small number of people (thousands or tens of thousands) are in the water at any given time and exposed to sharks. So the ratios are not comparable and make shark attacks much more likely than the old adage implies. BTW - One little nick (foot in the fin) or legit bite that causes a little blood could move the feeding frenzy that was in progress on to you guys. Once it starts on one diver... well, it could have been disastrous. Please stay safe.

Statistically speaking the percentage of me being eaten by a shark are less than 0.05 %. But for folks like those that swim with 100's of sharks the chance goes up 100% compared to myself and those like me that don't and won't swim with sharks. The numbers seem off when talking of shark attacks.... Just the surfers I know talk about shark attacks every year, especially in Mexico....I find that interesting.

Wow! As scuba divers ourselves we really appreciated this episode. I (Baz) have done a night dive with black tips in the Solomon islands and fully understand what it's like when they all go on a feeding frenzy. Amazing, fascinating, scary and wonderous all at the same time. Your best episode yet!

Hey guys, Thanks again for all the great content! Just wondering if y'all are still having issues with your side window seals? I noticed y'all are using a foil type material in your kitchen window area. Was that material there while the leaks were happening? If I am not mistaken, you are using that to reflect the light/heat so the inside of the salon stays cooler. You might want to see if reflecting the heat is super heating the sealant around the widows. I know in houses where people insulate the bottom of the roof decking, it super heats the underneath of the roof shingles and they become brittle at a quicker rate. Have y'all thought about making some blinds/curtains to keep the son out? Just my 2 cents. Thanks again,-Koffeegy

A tip about sharks, an old saying goes if you give your enemy an inch they may take a yard, in the case of a shark if you give him a foot he may take the whole leg, just a thought. (-: Secondarily never ask to borrow anything, the price will always be too high.

I disagree with you and Helen Keller on this one. You are far more likely to get in trouble if you put yourself in an obviously dangerous situation. There's no question that the unexpected can happen to anyone at any time, but I don't believe in looking for danger or tempting fate. Life is slippery enough. This was a beautiful episode until it wasn't.

Damn. That's award-winning videography and narration right there. Best video yet! We are having a lazy day after an overnight sail of heavy weather sailing in the Chesapeake. After nights like last night, your videos are a welcome reminder of why we chose this lifestyle. We totally live by Hellen Keller's quote, as well as our favorite one posted on our boat, "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine [or bourbon] in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming, WHOHOO, what a ride!" - Hunter S. Thompson

That was an amazing video. The island, the walkway bridge, the breeze, the huts.. and the SHARKS! One of the interesting things about you guys is that you are often in over your heads but you you don't let that stop you. It's been a common thread from the RV trips to boat buying to boat sailing to half way around the world adventures. You're this wonderful mix of straight-laced, naive, rule-followers as well as bad-ass, can-do, living life large, adventurers. It's not only entertaining but inspirational.

Wow, simply amazing, and definitely one of your top videos! As for safety stats, I would WAG that hanging out with that many sharks at night during a feeding frenzy is about the equivalent of walking in front of a row of dangerously tilted forward vending machines during an earthquake? Sorta, maybe...? But what an amazing video! You guys rock!

Saftey, safety, and safety. I had almost 2000 dives on this dive spot. At night the danger is not the sharks, but from the fact that some fishes will try to hide between your legs. By mistake the shark could grape your fines. Local diver know where to go and what to do when animal behavior change. I saw so many sailor coming in Tetamanu and not be 100% safe. Remember to all who would like to dive there. Tetamanu is 1h30 boat to the next nursery (no hospital in Fakarava). The only decompression chamber is in Papeete. There is 2 or maybe 3 dives (last time I was there in 2014, I think ther is a new one now) shops in south side, whit oxygene, communication equipement, and good knowledge. This comment is not to say don't do it, but more a friendly recommandation to any one. Good dives, take care.

Sharks aren't immediately aggressive. It usually takes sometime to build up. But when it does reach a certain threshold you start playing a seriously dangerous game. If that shark bite had drawn real blood those 200 to 300 sharks would have ripped you people apart in no time.
