I always have 2 bottles of Extra Thin on my bench. One has been turned into Sprue Goo the other is the way it comes. Can build anything from Squigs to WWII tanks. 👍

A nice thing about the Tamiya brush aplicator is that you can cut it at an angle with scissors (just a single cut), so ends in a point for detail gluing but still keeps a straight edge for larger pieces.

I just bought some AK plastic cement. Works well on the small models, but when I was trying to put together the trees in Warcry's Sundering Fate box, I have a disaster on my hands. The trees just seem to crumble. Any suggestions?

Tamiya Extra Thin is pretty much my go-to glue nowadays. The only advantage with citadel is that it’s easier to do large pieces in one continuous bead, whereas with Tamiya you may need to go back to the pot. I’m not sure if it’s just the Extra Thin, but the surface tension on the Tamiya is low, so you can easily drop it onto the exterior of any seams, and it will naturally settle neatly into the crevices.

I'll be trying that next, thanks!

I use nothing but Tamiya Cement. I absolutely love the product and it has never failed me. One nice trick that I can't go without, is whenever you have those visible jointlines, just brush a bit of tamiya thin right over the seam, and it'll bond it nice and well, then you just shave off any bit of excess and you've got a seamless surface.

@@tabletopskirmishgames You're welcome. Next up look up "sprue goo", That's a phenomental tool for thouse particularly difficult to glue bigger parts. Great tools are a lifesaver in this hobby :)

you can also use capillary action by putting to pieces together and running the brush along the edge. The glue will then get sucked in to the seam and seal them together. Its an old military modeler trick.

I really love these models Lee, the detail and face expressions are incredible. I believe there was some spare Tamiya in your box, and I''m with you all the way, I found it the best glue I'd ever used. Airbrushing is priceless for all models, but as for the larger models, once you get use to airbrushing as well as cleaning your brush afterwards (10 to 15 minutes with the help of those videos), you will save incredible time and say that phrase "how on earth did I ever paint before with a hand brush" lol

I will be honest, I actually liked citadel glue, it is the only GW hobby product I actually have ever used (I got a bunch of AP when I started, and I haven't been in the hobby long), but Tamiya Extra thin is basically the greatest thing ever for plastic glue. And some sprue jammed into one to make sprue goo for filling small gaps? *Chef's kiss* I would be interested in what you think is different between regular and extra thin, as I only have the latter. But getting my first bottle of Tamiya was probably the best model making purchase I made after I started in the hobby.

Nice one, I'll give the extra thin a go and make another video.
@jamescameron-clarke25602 жыл бұрын
I really like the Extra Thin. The brush is much better than the GW nozzle, and it's thin enough that you can press two components together, touch the brush to the join, and capillary action will pull the glue into the gap. Apparently, the Tamiya Airbrush Cleaner is nigh on identical in formula too, so can be bought at an even better ratio of £/ml.

Hi Lee! I feel like you left out a very important *warning* especially for younger viewers. This stuff is quite dangerous if abused or inhaled over a long time in a confined space; also the odour can linger, which may be a problem for those who share hobby space with others. The non-toxic, odourless version, " Limonene Cement," works very well and I believe is about the same price. Just thinking of your younger viewers! Cheers

I'm new to model building. I can't get the Tamiya to stick! Any advice? I prime on sprues because I'm not good enough at painting to get inside areas. Is this part of the problem? Is there a solution where I can have the best of both worlds?
@tabletopskirmishgames2 жыл бұрын
Hi John, do you prime and then build the models? The paint can make it tricky to glue cleanly and as it acts to melt the plastic so needs to be 'plastic on plastic'. That paint barrier can be a problem. You could prime then clean up all the sections that need to be glued, but that would take a long time. I always glue first then paint and prime later. Many people assemble most of a model and then leave the parts that make it difficult to reach other areas (eg Space Marine weapon blocking the chest plate). I was looking at painting the tracks on my tanks separately but then I'd have to glue them on with super glue and didn't like the sound of that. It can leave some marks, and is not fun to work with. I'd say to assemble, prime, and then practice painting them mostly or fully assembled. You'll soon get the hang of it. Maybe some others can offer some good tips? Have fun with your new hobby!
@jgcompto2 жыл бұрын
@@tabletopskirmishgames Thanks for the advice! I'll try a combination of getting them mostly assembled, then cleaning up spots where I'll need to prime first.

New to the hobby, not a big fan of the Citadel glue. It’s not great for tiny pieces, I’ve had to re-glue several pieces in place, some repeatedly. The bottles also leak a lot. My husband has been model making for a lot longer than I have and swears by brush glues.
