About the tipping, I always ask the cashier quietly if the tip on the iPad goes to them. Because I used to work at a donut shop and the tips that were left on the iPad didn’t go to us the employees. I always felt bad when the customers would give a generous tip on the iPad bc it would go to the owners and not us. So if it’s appropriate I just asks the cashiers or leave a cash tip.

I used to work at one of those ipad cafes. I never saw anyone get mad when people didn't tip. They would all just be really happy and grateful when they did tip. As for me, I mostly felt guilty because I felt like I didnt deserve it. I was only taking their order and already getting paid for it. Funny thing though, I now tip them every single time. The guilt and pressure is real.

Tipping is an American thing that I will never understand. WHY WOULDNT THE BUSINESS JUST PAY THE EMPLOYEES MORE? It’s like putting a bandaid on a bullet hole.
@jasminecarter5305
@jasminecarter5305 Жыл бұрын
And how is a small business going to be able to afford to pay employees $500 a day? A good day at a busy restaurant I can make that. If you make good tips that’s how you make good money. And if it’s a great service people should tip 20%. I even tip fast food workers because I know they deal with hellish people all day long. People who are stingy/cheap/don’t believe in tipping should not go out to eat or get services like massages or haircuts…those people ruin my day. Tip your service people 20%+ they work hard!!!
@Carol-mn9xq
@Carol-mn9xq Жыл бұрын
@@jasminecarter5305 I was referring more to big businesses where the CEO makes more than all the service workers combined. Also, yes, good service should be rewarded, but I think the corporation should give them a raise or a better paying opportunity, instead of just expecting the clients to tip them. But also, I don’t live in a country where tipping is a very common practice so I could be just not getting the logic behind it. Don’t think your tone was really necessary tho
@megirving

Also other countries seem to make it work, I’m sure America can start paying employees a liveable wage 🫡
@jasminecarter5305
@jasminecarter5305 Жыл бұрын
I’m sorry I didn’t mean to have a tone people who don’t tip just really grind my gears lol. I understand different countries have different systems for tipping, but I think if you really knew how much more Americans make with the tipping system vs what people make in other countries on a “livable” wage you would choose the tipping system too. And I’m sure there’s exceptions, but over all people are probably making double here than what they’d make anywhere else. Unless there’s places in other countries that pay $60-$80 an hour for service workers specifically in restaurants.

I relate so much to Matt, it’s so nice to hear some of my anxieties confirmed in other people. Not because I’m happy he’s as anxious as I am, but because it’s nice to hear we aren’t alone. Being a people pleaser is exhausting and when you’re not used to being assertive it feels like arrogance. Matt, all of your listeners are behind you, stick up for yourself and keep practicing setting boundaries. Life is too short to spend it worrying for someone else, I’m working on it myself. About the tipping thing, I personally work at a small business and we all split the tips which ends up being about a 30-40% bonus a month. So I personally tip the small businesses that may get paid less hourly because they can’t afford to pay their employees what a corporation could. But also I don’t take it personally when people cannot afford to tip or don’t choose to.

I work at a small locally owned restaurant and when it comes to tipping… I always feel so awkward when that screen comes up because there is always that tension between the customer and me… but when it comes to credit card tips those tips get split between everyone working at the shop. They divide them into everyone’s paychecks.. every two weeks… they do that because everyone who is working at the said store is getting an even amount. When it comes to prep… customer service/dishes, and all in all the cooking of the food. That tip goes to every single person working in that restaurant or place of work not just the person you are talking face to face to. So the 20% isn’t just going to the person you are talking too it’s going to every person who works at the shop. I understand the discomfort people may feel when it comes to that tipping screen but all in all times have changed I personally along with a lot of people I am working with are going to school and renting a place and the salary itself isn’t enough so we do rely on tips, along with the other jobs we have to be able to afford school and rent.

I work at a Hawaiian Bros, and we do the tip thing before service. Personally, I feel awkward for people having to do it because they’re usually looking around waiting for their card to go through, and I have to be like, “it’s gonna ask you a couple questions!” being the tip and what receipt they want. But I don’t care if they do or don’t because it doesn’t show me on my screen after they’re done anyway. I can’t speak for Starbucks and other places though. Plus, our tips are pooled so it doesn’t matter for me as an individual anyway.

Okay I feel like I should say this as a PSA - picking your nose in the shower is a bad habit. If you do make you sure you wash your hands directly after because if you pick your nose and then go to wash yourself, you can give yourself a staph infection since staph lives inside your nose. This is also important when drying your face. Dry your face with a seperate towel because the staph can go from your nose to your towel to your body.

I worked at a subway for 8 years, people used to ask if they could tip all the time and we could accept them just didn’t have a tip jar or the card tip option then when we got it we began getting so many tips we were just so thankful for any tips we got and people were so kind. It wasn’t upsetting when people didn’t tip unless it was a crazy huge order then a bit annoying. It’s far more annoying when people complained that we had the option to tip. Don’t complain just don’t tip if you don’t want to that’s fine no problem with us we aren’t working for tips like servers or delivery people.
