Line6 HX Stomp is a powerful multi-effects pedal with endless features. But can it also be used to run wet dry wet, with wet effects in kill dry AND in parallel?
Furthermore, can you have control over the individual lines, their levels and have the ability to mute them easily?
Further-Furthermore - can you do all of this without amps?
So many points to cover. I don't know the HX will be able to handle all of this.

I think it should be mentioned, that for this to work, you need a cable from the SEND (side output) to your desk. That will be the dry mono signal. The main outs L/R to the desk will be the stereo effects.

Thank you for this inspiring video! Found another interesting tip that others may find helpful. HX Stomp has two parallel paths...so I could put two mono delays on each one, hard pan the splits, and then have a great dual delay sound, each one feeding off the original signal, so they are in true parallel. But...say I ALSO want to have a reverb that acts on the trails of BOTH delays. I can use a reverb with the mix at any level, and it will only be affecting the trails of the delays, not the original signal. If the delay repeats are tight enough to the original signal, this serial reverb after the parallel delays will basically sound like another parallel path. TL;DR: As long as the first 'wet only' block is in kill dry (100% mix), you can run serial effects after that block in either path and use the mix knob to control the level of those effects. HX Stomp is limited by just two paths, but workaround can open up more possibilities.

You guys should make a pedalboard that has ts female jacks all over it that connect to a matrix switcher either controlled with dip switches or an iOS app, and a set of switches at the bottom that perform different functions that can be changed with the switches or app. With the pedal board it would be possible to completely change the order of your effects on the fly, split them up, put some in the fx loop, switch between stereo or wet dry stuff, etc. that would be a pretty awesome piece of equipment. Especially after seeing that putting a boost at the end gives a cool unique sound. It would basically be like a flock patch bay style midi pedalboard.

Do you run everything in the main out and get the w/d/w result? This would be to an amp, PA, or mixer. Or do you need to run 3 outputs to a mixer and pan the wet signals from there. You could do either. All depends out you route this. You could use analog wet effects, yes. Either after the outputs of the HX stomp (amps would have to be before the wet effects in this scenario. OR use a TRS Y cable on FX send of HX. One side is dry out, other side is mono send to wet effects. Return in stereo after last wet effect to FX return on HX - amp blocks - HX stomp outputs

@@GoodwoodAudio so Im not sure which route to go. I have a drive section(set of drive pedals) and a wet section( set of wet effect pedals). And want to use the stomp as an amp/cab sim for some wet/dry/wet. But when I play at church it gets summed to one... so I think even a wet dry might work... Also I am using pbc6x. Could it be used to control the stomp as well? Your thoughts?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 жыл бұрын
@@sixk82 There are honestly endless options here. I would potentially start by running your FX loop on the stomp for your cab / amp sim (eg. Insert Send on PBC to HX input - HX FX Send to Insert Return *Put your amp and cab sim in this section in the stomp). Now you can move your cab sim independently of the wet section on the HX. I'd start by running wet effects in series and use the HX FX Return / Stereo outputs to run delay and verb in parallel towards the end of the chain. See if you like it before committing further to a parallel setup. The good news with this is you can create mono presets on the HX as well for when you run mono if you get phase issues with summing (depends on how you run your effects / which effects you use). Hopefully this makes sense! Happy to chat more - info@goodwoodaudio.com

@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 жыл бұрын
You could probably approach this a couple of different ways (probably more than I can answer here). but if you're HX stomp is ONLY amps as you mentioned, you could put it in the HX Effects FX loop and place those amps wherever you like (easiest but least flexible). You could also put the HX stomp in 2 different places if that helped... One amp for dry and a different one for wet. FX send on HX to input on HX stomp. FX Send on HX stomp to dry amp output. then the output of HX effects could go (in stereo) to HX stomp FX return - another amp block (or two) - HX stomp outputs to wet out in stereo... There are plenty of ways you could do this but hopefully that gets you started!

i have a roland jc 22, and a hx effects it got fx loops and can work in parallel. my goal is to get two signals at the same time, one with compressor, distortions, etc (everything before the fx loops block in my hx) and my delays and modulations i want them clean, 100% wet... but when i set them 100% wet no matter what i do the delay is repeating with distortion... in parallel without using distortion before the fx loop, the sound is perfect, i want the clean delay parallel mixed with the distorted guitar. any clues on what i'm missing here? i mean it has to be possible to do what i intend or is it really necessary to use two amps to get this 100% wet + 100% dry setup that i'm trying to get? the jc 22 hast to speakers but i don't think it should matter
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio Жыл бұрын
I think I mostly follow... but might be a bit lost. What you should be doing to get this is essentially plugging guitar straight into HX effects. Then splitting signal right away. One side goes to your FX Loop (in this loop would be drives / compressor etc) and the other side goes to delays / verbs / modulation). If I'm understanding you, you'd then mix down these two signals (wet effects and dry effects) with a mixer in the HX. Then you could send that parallel signal to the input of the amp.

Would I still need to run the main L/R outs into two separate amps? Or would the wet effects be getting the amp and drive at the beginning of the chain? TL;DR- Does this work with just the amp at the front or do I need two more amps/ a dual amp sim(ex. Walrus ACS1)
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure I can cover all of this here, but in short you can wire this up in any number of ways. 1. YES - the wet amps will get the drive / dry effects in the beginning of the chain (if wired in the way the vid shows) but you don't NEED to do it this way. You can have clean wet effects as well but will need to split your signal earlier in the chain. You can do this with 3 amps (WDW), 2 amps (WD) or 1 amp (use 1 amp for dry and amp/cab sim for wet effects as a starting point). You don't need a dual amp sim if you are ok with running ONE cab sim for everything OR a cab sim for just wet or just dry.

Can you run wet/dry/wet with stereo wet pedals (flanger, chorus, delay, reverb), all in parallel and kill-dry?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 жыл бұрын
You'll be hard pressed to find chorus and flange pedals with kill dry functions. They exist, but it's rare. Usually delay and verb are in parallel and pedals before that are series... As an example. Stereo Chorus - Stereo Flanger - **Parallel split** - Delay/Verb in parallel.
@marcuslewitzki4610
@marcuslewitzki4610 2 жыл бұрын
@@GoodwoodAudio Ok, yes that's the setup I usually see people do when demonstrating parallel routing. Another thing Dan Steinhardt said in a video (that Pedal Show) is that stereo chorus pedals have one of the signals completely dry and the actual effect is only in the other signal, mixed with the dry. So if you were to mute one of them (don't remember if he said right or left, it might be different for different brands) you'd get no chorus effect at all. He even demonstrated this on the show. So if that pedal he used were to feature a kill-dry switch it would basically render the pedal mono. But are the chorus effect always only on one side in stereo chorus pedals?
@GoodwoodAudio
@GoodwoodAudio 2 жыл бұрын
@@marcuslewitzki4610 Dan knows his stuff. Legend. BUT no - not all chorus pedals operate this way. I think the MXR stereo chorus (amazing) does this, but other stereo chorus pedals have chorus on both lines. Totally depends on the brand of chorus pedal (that companies take) you're using. Unfortunately though you just kind of have to 'know' or send them a direct message because this is almost never in their user manual (how they do 'stereo' chorus).

there is. If I'm hearing you correctly... You'd split your signal in parallel in HX, then send to Amps/IRs. On one split you'd send to verb, the other split to delay then out of HX. Is that what you mean? You could also do split / delay and verb in parallel then on each split run separate amps.IRs (change the order of pedals vs. amps.IRs if you like that better.
