It's been a year since I've had this edition of a 1025R. In that year I've added about 50 hours of operation using a whole lot of attachments on the front and the back over the past year, not to mention a slew of accessories and even a hydraulic diverter. Let's review what I've learned, what I'd change, and see if I'd recommend a 1025R for you.

I have about 3 acres that I mow with lots of trees. Decided on the 1025r after watching Tractor Time with Tim over a zero turn. It has been a great choice. The loader has come in handy. I have a JD trailer, tiller, and a few other attachments that I use a lot for driveway clearing, and garden work. So glad I went with a compact tractor over just a mower. However, when i need help, the JD2025 is there for me. Pallet Forks are a necessity. Whether a 1025 or 2025... a very wise investment. You won't be sorry.

I don't know why it would break an axle, big farm tractors run duals all the time. They just run less air pressure in the outside dual so there is some flex though.

As a design engineer going through your videos: You've only gotta worry about snapping your axle if you put a large load on the 3 point hitch. That axle is essentially designed for the worst case; the whole weight of the tractor teetering only on the back wheels, plus the max 3-point load. Widening the tires does probably make the axle the weakest point, but as long as you keep your 3-point load below half of the max, you don't need to worry.

Your original duel spacer seems to have done a great job keeping the mud and debris out of the area between the wheels. These new spacers will allow a lot more debris to live on the inside of the rims. Also, watching some farming channels, some farmers running duels even triples lower the tire pressure by a few psi on the 2nd tire and again on the 3rd tire to reduce axle issues.

Thanks for the details. Fyi, I've had a JD X739 for a number of years. This the largest just below the 1 series, but may not be something you cover. I use it almost entirely on my lawn. The 4 wheel steer, full-time 4wd, and factory "HDAP" (heavy duty all purpose tread) tires have been awesome. As advertised, no scrubbing, tight turns with mower. I have a large hilly lawn with many trees to mow around so this has been great for traction and maneuverability. Liquid cooled engine. I use a large Cyclone Rake vac on the rear, too. I have no loader, nor three point, nor PTO, although PTO could be added. The drive-over deck with belly PTO quick-tach is terrific (easy), I take it on and off multiple times every year.

On the ballasted tires, I only use Rimguard, great product, my one issue on these smaller tractors is my neighbors tractor rubber valve stems fail three times over 15 years and I just replaced his rear tires this year due to broken belts in the sidewalls, it’s a x585 and is used residentially to mow around a acre and plow his driveway, 800 hours in the tractors, it would be nice to start putting liquid valve stems in the rims when they fill the tires, the rubber ones seem to separate from the brass core over time and fails at the most unfortunate time

My first tractor was a fixer-upper (1951 Massey Harris 44), so I had an idea of what size I wanted / needed. Bought a 5055E with a few things (like extra hydraulics and bigger tires) that I thought were helpful and after twelve years have no regrets. Perfect size for my needs.

@@charlesarmstrong3536 I actually bought the 2515 h, and I love it! It does everything as advertised and so much more. The dealer got me my 50-hour service items at cost. It has outperformed several similar model tractors within close proximity. It easily does the work of other 30 to 40 horsepower tractors of other brands. I've moved over $29,000 pounds pallets with it, pushed out several 2 ft diameter oak tree stumps, started on a small pond, cleared several trails in the woods, moved several down the trees, and many other smaller projects. It's never struggled. The one time it's strained a little was not because of lack of power, but because lack of ballasts. And that was moving a tree stumps full of mud and roots that was bigger than the back of the tractor. I wound up putting it in low and using my pallet forks as levers to drag it out of the hole and push it off to the side. Once I got a proper ballast, I carried it to the burn pile.

Nice to have around when I need it though and not have to run around to rent something. Pulled a couple of pretty good sized stumps already this year in my property and neighbors. Slow but effective. I think it has paid for itself over the last 6 years. Matter of personal opinion obviously..LOL! Thanks for sharing!

This is really a good video on the long haul of everything that you've been putting this tractor through! In your opinion, what do you think is realistic for the 1025r to lift with forks or a grapple at 3 or 4 feet in the air given you have good ballast in the back. Also, given the price of the auto connect mower deck would it be just more efficient to have a ZTR mower?

They should without a problem. We had purchased a lawn garden John Deere tractor, d-170, from an individual that wasn't very old and we had a rear end problem. It would have been a $900 repair bill, but the John Deere dealer that we used looked it up and it was still covered under the warranty. That is one of the reasons I am a fan of John Deere. They are really good to cover warranty when things malfunction if it all possible.

Don't know what the big deal is about duals. Farmers have been putting duals on tractors for longer than I've been alive. Some tractors have triples and stick out 10-12 ft each side!! Not saying you can't break the axle, you just have to pay attention to how you drive and what's in front of you.

My dad and I bought a JD 3025e 2 years back and so far it has been a back and knee saver. I have to say the only reason we went Green over Orange is because the JD Dealership is much much closer to our house then Kubota is. If Kubota and John Deere where across from 1 another we would probably still be trying to figure out which 1 to buy. From everything I have read and every person I talked to throughout the different tractor brand owners you can't go wrong if you do not have a tractor and you need 1 your going to love any tractor brand you choose. The only way I could see someone being disappointed is if they own a 5 or 10 year old tractor and buy a brand new tractor of a different brand and the controls are different or it's not as powerful as your last 1 but if your like we were, doing everything by hand you cannot go wrong with whatever tractor you pick

What % grade would that dual wheel setup be able to go across laterally/across? I've got a roughly 30% grade that I take my small yard tractor (2008 Cub Cadet LT1050) across with ag-diggers on the rear while mowing and I'm wondering if going to dual rear with ag-diggers would be better. I know it's not great for the oil in the engine at that angle but it's not for very long and the oil pressure has never dropped enough to trigger the kill switch.

The biggest drawback I have experienced with the 1025r is the ground clearance. One of the properties I help maintain has a lot of rocks and stumps which would really limit what it could do. Otherwise they are capable little machines that can do okay at almost anything you ask of them. I ended up going with the 3032e mainly for ground clearance. It does have its limitations but overall does okay for what I need it for. For the bigger stuff the 74 hp Bobcat gets the job done.

Thank You . I am so glad that you take the time to explain the good and bad . I agree that having a quality dealer network is vital to keeping out machinery alive and well . As you point out proper operation and maitanance is vital . As a point if trivia I had a 1963 5010 , that I used on my small (200 acre) farm , when I sold it it had 8700 hrs , still was as usable (mostly) as when it was new . My point is size the machine to the use , budget and time. Merry Christmas , Happy new year

If you had two different sets of tires (industrial with ballast and the turf tires without ballast) , how would you run the rears with spacers? Would you even do it with different tires?

My wife and I are currently looking for property with acreage and while looking for heavy equipment videos found your channel and been really appreciating the information you share , good or bad. We are aiming at 40 acre but are willing to own more if the budget allows . My question is when shopping for a used tractor how many hours on a unit is too many given its year model ? Have you done a used tractor buying guide vlog ?

Great job again . Also in addition as stated before i was going for one of the bigger series of tractors. Many factors came into play for choosing the 1025r . As stated before the reasons where many. Tractor cab height and cost to fix garage doors. Plus with all the other videos here and this one too, make a very great and compelling case for the value, ease of use and the function of this great little tractor . It just works so very well. Thanks again . Courtney Tim

WOW, hard to believe it's been year. Hi Rosie I bought 3 inch spacers for my 2025R but have been afraid to use them. It will be interesting to see how yours workout. I think I should have bought smaller ones. There have been times more stability would have been good.

Do not be afraid I have stacked spacers on my 1026R for 9 years and I punish my tractor, I use it commercially, snow, construction, carry more weight than it should, use it for a Bobcat, live on a hill with 15% slopes, broken almost every bolt on it but it just runs & runs, have a few thousand hours on the spacers and never a problem, they saved my life more than once. Please do your self a favor and install them, you will wonder why you waited. My tractor is so reliable I am afraid to replace it.

I was wondering what you used for liquid ballast. I just invested in rim guard for my older tractor because it just couldn't push the bigger piles of snow.

I would like to buy the grab handle that bolts onto the rops just befow the lights on the left side. I understand that it comes with the back hoe but I don't have that. Can you just sell me the grab handle at a resonable price. John Deere wants big $. (It is the grab handle that you hung your blue ear protection on).

At Robert, I believe you are correct, I have a 2019 with a backhoe and I have that handle on my Rops. If I am on a weird angle, or I have been running recently and my knees are killing me, I do tend to use the handle to assist in getting up onto that little operator station for the back hoe.

Well sir, I have just moved to MO and found your channel. I have a few questions for you, if time permits. I have about 1 acre of "lawn" on a 3.85 acre lot. What type of tractor would you recommend for general lawn care and light snow removal off a driveway?
@MrDerek19871987derek
@MrDerek19871987derek 3 жыл бұрын
If your ground is on even I wouldn't recommend one of the one series get actually a lawn tractor with the appropriate attachments that you need I've got the 1023e and that 54-inch deck scrapes real bad if it's got uneven ground

I also live in MO and had a JD 2305 (previous model to the 1025r) and now have a 1025r. I have 2.5 acres with half of it wooded and have cleared the majority of the brush and debris as well as around 100 trees. The key is to having all of the right attachments. I still don't have all that I need or maybe want, but i'm getting close. Yard word takes a whole set of different attachments than dealing with the wooded area, however I enjoy working on the tractor and using the attachments when they do a good job. I just bought the HLA snow pusher with a back drag for my 2 concrete drive ways and it works great. I used to use just the bucket on the 2305 but i was wearing down the front edge to much. I also plowed the cul-de-sac we live on as well.
