** IMPORTANT ** Something I didn't think of when making the video, but was reminded of by a comment here: I have a feeling that you will need to progress the main Skyrim quest a small amount to progress this new Bards Questling. If I had to guess, I'd say that you need to have fought the first dragon and visited the greybeards.

Most likely that's going to be a possibility but as well.. you may have to progress the bards college, up until after you talk to the Jarl of solitude. Do you have imperious iv noticed that when you play a instrument you lose the imperious race buffs when play music that may be the mid that conflicting

There are two starts for the mod; Helvana approaching as Courier would if you've already completed the vanilla Bard Quest and one where she accompanies you to Dead Men's Respite for the vanilla quest. As you progress through our quest, you will need to go and complete part of the Main Quest with the Greybeards to learn some particular Shouts. We've incorporated it so that Sledrig will direct you there if you have yet to complete it.

You guys have taken one of the most mundane and easily overlooked aspects of the game, and turned it into something that is just pure Gold... I'm looking forward to trying this one! These are things that I look for when I'm playing Skyrim and I'm starting over.. new aspects and quest that fix what's already there. It makes me so happy to see one of my favorite KZbinrs speak so highly of what the team at Kinggath has accomplished. As a huge fan of Skyrim (and a huge music nerd), the Bards College was ALWAYS something that I wanted to see more of, so I'm super happy and so so grateful to have gotten to be a part of this. Gratz - maybe someone may make a bard build? I know some people have enjoyed the bard mods around, I am not an expert or even one who understands musical notes, but I appreciate music it helps me keep calm and motivated when all else fails to do so. Also, I love Kinggath's work on Sim Settlements 2, the Bard's College was overwhelmingly lacking in the base game, quite miserable in its stock state - if this can make it more immersive for those interested in this aspect of Skyrim I'd love it, was sick many years ago of having a ghost town of a building I usually would enter and exit with. 😁

I got to chat briefly with Kinggath a year or so ago regarding his Fallout mods. Seemed like a really genuine dude, and helped me troubleshoot a problem I was having with Sim Settlements. Glad to see him getting paid for his work, I hope he worked out a good deal with Bethesda!

having this much dialogue is a great thing, considering for most of the actual official Creation Club content included in the Anniversary edition dialogue boils down to being told "It's all in this note" and then being handed an exposition pamphlet. ultimately, though, I can't bring myself to pay for more content for a 13 year old game when the Anniversary Edition was supposed to include all Creation Club content. yes, I know they changed the description on the store page for it after they started releasing more content. if anything, that makes it worse.

Larger content mods like this are the best option for Creation Club, I'd happily pay for Legacy of the Dragon born because it feels like a user based expansion. Hopefully we see more expansion style mods like this.

please dont give people ideas to hide mods behind pay walls. If you want to donate to them, you should, as I'm sure there are ways you can, but not everyone can drop money for something just to try it.

@@thisisnotthechannelyourelo407 I disagree with you here for three reasons: 1. It is a know fact that people just don't donate for mods. No matter the size. So if you as a team of very talented modders make a large mod like this you will get significantly less money if you bring it out with a donate option then if it is a paid mod. (Even in less people play it because of that) 2. Actually having an opportunity to get paid for large mods like this, will motivate more people to make mods like this, which only makes games better in the long run. I saw the term "Third Party DLC" somewhere here in the comment section and I think that is a good way to actually call it. We need to see this as a new form of content rather then "paid mods" but doing so we should also be allowed to expect a (much) higher level of quality from it. 3. Just like any mainline DLC or games I would say for these Third Party DLC's it should still be the developers responsibility to make sure it runs well with their game. Let me be clear, this is the first (and to my knowledge only) mod so far that actually deserves the title of Paid Mod/Third Party DLC. Crap like those small mods that were on creation club before should NOT be. I think if Bethesda does some actually quality control and makes sure that the stuff you pay for is actual value for your money LIKE THIS ONE it will create a lot more great content for all Bethesda games.

@@1996gameking I agree with your general sentiments, but I DO think that a good standard of paid mod would allow you to "try before you buy" if you like. Maybe you could have a free version that contains 1-2 quests in a LOTD-like mod for example. It's hardly a new idea, but hasn't been used in the paid modding scene as yet to my knowledge....probably because the majority don't seem to be much better than scams. This wouldn't work so well in a mod that just gives a small amount of weapons / armours etc....but then would that be a "good" paid mod? You could argue that a good number of people who played the free version wouldn't buy the paid version, and that's true of course, but at least in my case if it didn't have a free version I wouldn't even consider buying it at all.

I certainly get where you are coming from tho, they first need to set that standard you can't just give them that trust after one good mod.

This is exactly the kind of stuff I wanted to see on the Creation Club, this is something _worth_ paying for. No offense to the modders who make them but things like weapon and armor skins or even single companions have no place in the CC. That kind of stuff should be kept on Nexus or if they absolutely _have_ to be paid for them then host them on Patreon or something. CC should be for THIS kind of content. Something that is substantial and makes the game better.

@@SolomonDutton You cannot access the CC to download it unless you're playing on 1.6.1170, so if you're still playing on 1.5.97 or 1.6.640 then you will have to update the game, which will break quite a lot of mods if you don't update them (or remove them, if no update exists).

This sounds wonderful, and very much like a mod I'd happily pay money for. I love the idea of an actually fleshed out Bard's Guild, for lack of a better way to say it. My one hope is that it will be compatible with other mods like *Bards Reborn: Student of Song* as well as *BA Bard Songs* and *Skyrim's Got Talent* . I have those, and I'd hate to have to get rid of those mods in order to use this one.

East Empire is good mind, makes the process of selling all your crap so much easier, for me at least. People argue that you can just cheat and increase your inventory size, but if you're going to cheat then you might as well just give yourself money as well, and anything else you want for that matter. Yeah, not sure how prolific that bug is going to turn out to be, but if your dream is to wander Skyrim playing music, it will be a major concern. If so, you'd best wait for reviews and feedback from others to see if this bug hits anyone else and if it gets fixed.

@@GophersVids I got the bug too. It worked the very fist time I tried it though. I was in the same room as the professor who teaches it to you, (They were at the winking skeever at the time). After they taught me flute, I immediately tried it and it worked. Then I went to bed, woke up in the same cell mind you, and it didn't work. The animation plays but I could no longer hear the music or see the effects.. I also couldn't use the left MB to stop. The LMB would stop only the animation, but I was stuck in 3rd person and when trying to use the bed immediately after, told me I couldn't sleep while playing an instrument. I had to actually go into my inventory and equip a weapon. Then I could continue with the game and sleep. I'm going to check my LO and see if i can see which mods edit the races; That is, of course, if it is the race that is causing the issues.

quick update.. I use over 1000 mods mixed types (esl, esp, espfe) etc.. and this mod conflicts with just 4 cell records. I just used xedit, right clicked and did - Apply filter to show conflicts). I also double checked the race records manually and there are no conflicts there, the mod adds their own races. I have to say, for a mod of this quality and expanse, having only 4 cells conflict is like a mic-drop for the modding community.

That's the problem it can't be done in the creation club because of the rules that mods can't be dependent on one another. So that rules out console players. Nexus modders might but given that creation club isn't popular so it might take a while for PC players. A problem I have with his east empire mod is it conflicts with my load order and no one has made patches for it.

​@@DJLegends I have seen terrain patches, though the Winterhold ones don't seem to work right for me. It's like I go into a new dimension where terrain, buildings, and the LOD flicker in and out of existence in and around where the east empire location originally was. Though in all fairness I have the same problem with Tundra Homestead. Also Tundra Homestead seems to be interfering with me buying Breezehome still haven't figured out what is causing that. What I'm not finding is script compatibility patches. Have several build your own estate slash earn passive income mods and something about them in my load order seems to be messing with the east empires passive income system it just won't work I get no gold from selling items nor a cut from locations they mine. The only thing that works is moving items but because of Convenient Horses and Legacy of the Dragonborn I don't have a reason to use it much.

I didn't realise the size of this mod on Xbox is 884.38MB so ensure you have space in your load order before buying. This would have been good to know in the mods description so we can see before buying it if I'm gonna have to sacrifice a bunch of mods to implement it into my load order.

I’ve just picked up Skyrim after years doing a legendary survival playthrough old Norse style, and I grabbed this mod to add because I’ve heard it was good. I’ve barely played it and it feels like something straight out of oblivion in terms of diologue and quests. Kinggath and his team have delivered a fantastic mod!

After having watched the trailer I am very interested in this creation, it looks like a well made addition to the game. As this is one of the first times you are positive about a creation I am taking that as a good sign. The part you mentioned about mod compatibility is the only part that worries me. The features, and all the custom placed bards will likely need quite a lot of compatibility patches with city and interior overhauls as well. Being able to compare it, or at least see which cells are edited would help a lot.

I would NOT classify this a microtransaction. The Vulture for Starfield? Now THAT was a microtransaction. And many (if not most) things on sale in the 'creation store' are absolutely what I would call microtransactions. But this mod is absolutely NOT micro anything :) This is more akin to something like Automatron DLC or Dawnguard DLC.

Sounds like there's some overlap with Ordinator Speech perks for performing and shout enhancements. Since you mention the extensive testing and your own load order, I assume you haven't seen any issues. This sounds like a heck of a deal for $10, probably even $15.

Currently 160 hours into an "A Storywealth" playthrough of Fallout 4 (which includes the excellent Sim Settlements 2 also from Kinggath), then I'll be diving into Fallout: London and now with this mod? Skyrim is next on that list. And by the time Í'm done with all of those, it's probably time for the Shattered Space expansion.

That's the things with paid mods, I don't mind paying for mods but the moment I have to I expect Quality and size. If you are charging me $5 for a weapon, why would I bother when there's thousands of comparable or even better weapons?. A DLC like this fits perfect IMO, people were complaining for ages how the bards college had no proper faction questline, and this fills in that gap to a T. $10 is still too much IMO, especially when the creators only get a fraction of that $10 thanks to greedthesda, would much rather just pay it directly to the creator.

How do you start those insult duels. I approached a Novice Naysayer and the only option I ever get is the 'rules". My Merriment Quest (or whatever the full title of the quest was, I believe it was the first one from the Archbard to attend a party with Helvanna), is completed, but I still am unable to "duel". Any help please?

The insult duelling, I remember one of the Witcher games had this as well. Including the reputation part where some opponents don't duel until you have enough reputation.

Bard guild should by default have more than one quest. Also, I'm good. Jayserpa made Skyrim Got Talent, giving you the ability to play instruments and have actual progression.

I want to play this so bad but it isn’t available on PlayStation for whatever reason. So beyond aggravating as this is the first paid mod I’d actually consider worth the price.

This is less "paid mod" and more "semi-official" DLC. Which i think a paid mod should aspire to. If you ask for money, it better be good. Kingath and his teams creations at this point are the only mods that achieve said potential.

i wish theyd use CC to release stuff where you can explore new lands like the solstheim DLC id happily pay for it at that point since its just essentially new DLC and not just a crappy weapon mod with storyteling done with notes you find on dead bodies

It's why I find it hard to justify buying DLC for a lot of games in general, on all honesty DLCs are rarely priced competitively with full games, Dawnguard and Dragonborn were twice as expansive as this (each $20 at release) and neither are equivalent in value to FNV or Morrowind. When you consider inflation since 2012, this is equivalent to $7.30 in 2012 money, for comparison to Dawnguard's price. I guess if you felt Dawnguard and Dragonborn were worth it then this probably is, if not there are very good full games (including modern ones) for $10.

@Gopher , what's your take on these mods not being available on the GoG version? After so many years, Skyrim got released from its DRM shackles, and now the modding community of all people are trying to clasp us back in irons? Is there no way these mods can, in paid form, I have no issue with that, be put on the Nexus?

Well it kind of sucks, but I don't see this as the modding community trying to clasp you in irons. It's just some people who are trying their hand at making a living making great mods. As for putting it on Nexus, there's practically no chance of that happening because Bethesda (for obvious reasons) want to keep control of any commercial aspects related to their games as much as is corporately possible.

@@GophersVids Thanks! So it will also not be possible to buy it on Steam and manually port the files to the GoG install I have. At least from what I could read about the Creation thingie. Shame. Not going back to Steam Skyrim for this though. I'm not against people trying to make a living out of this, but if it means being locked in on Steam, I'll have to pass.

@@bakakafka4428 You'll be able to do that IF you also own the game on Steam. You could copy the mods across. But if not, I don't exactly know how you'd be able to buy them. It uses an in game (and utterly terrible) user interface for purchasing. But out of curiosity has Bethesda or GOG made a statement about Aniversary Edition coming to GOG? Because that would fix this issue surely?

@@GophersVids GoG has the Anniversary Upgrade for 10 EUR. And the full edition too for 17 EUR (current sale prices). I skipped it because didn't want the hassle with mods breaking. Not by any stretch an experienced mod gamer here. So this will allow for the purchase of paid content even if you're not DRM'd? Anyone here who can confirm this works on the GoG edition? I assumed it would block access because you're not on Steam.

There is a paid for Aniiversatry update on Steam too, but that's CC content and is NOT needed for this mod. It's just the version of Skyrim that was Anniversary Edition that is required. And that should be free, if available on GOG.

Never stop making videos please. I have given up modding Skyrim twice, and have actually never played the game much this past decade (since i can't stand it unmoded). Currently finalizing a 2 years effort on heavily modding New Vegas. I will come back to Skyrim afterwards, and i remember your "Skyrim Mod Sanctuary" very, very fondly. I will probably watch them again, however outdated they may be, just because i love them. It is uncharacteristic for me to say that, since i am too old for this. But i don't think there exists any way in any world to make "paid mods right". You can make DLCs right. But introducing the idea that making mods paying is "right" is enabling a very dangerous precedent that Bethesda is eager for us to enable. Let's protect our future, and the future of moding and sharing. One thing is for sure, no matter how great the content, i will never buy a "paid mod". I won't endorse Bethesda's behaviour.

@4:20 you mentioned that it has flairs when you will need to be skilled in the way of the voice and the ways of the bard. Does that mean if you are playing a Non-Dragonborn playthrough you will not be able to enjoy this paid mod?

That's a possibility. I haven't tried with a fresh character. I have a feeling you need to have at least whirlwind shout unlocked to truly complete the questline.

While the controversy of paid mods is still relevant, I have always thought that if the mod has good value that the authors deserve to make money, but if the mod is like the one you reviewed for Starfield and told us not to but, I believe this is where the majority of the controversy for paid mods comes from, I have bought and played many CC mods for both Fo4 and Skyrim, and I can tell you that both games had plenty of under valued and over valued mods, Paying $5 of a single weapon is NOT worth it, but if a quest and an hours worth of gameplay accompanied that weapon and maybe a little bit of lore to go with it for $5 that would be more of a good value to me. So, as always Gopher thanks for your input to this mod, your opinion is highly valued, I will try this mod out as soon as I can, I always felt the bards collage was underwhelming, I'm glad Kinggath and team decided to redo this, can't wait to see for myself!!👍💯😁

@@captbloodbeard For hosting it, Kind of like Nexus, Although Nexus you only need to pay once to get premium, and its not even necessary. When you get right down to it, their a business, they need to make money to continue being a business, the question is, how much integrity are they going to have doing so, lately, not so much you can see it all over the CC costs, although I'm not quite sure who sets the price, The Bards collage is only $10 but was that Kinggath's decision or Bethesda's? and if Bethesda's why are all the prices all over the place, some mods are worth the price most aren't, does a mod author have a choice, not really sure.

@@squallion777 there are small costs to hosting, but a company like Bethesda already has the infrastructure, I guarantee that their cut is far beyond the costs to host and serve this small number of mods. The Nexus is supported by ads and donations. Hell, I bought my lifetime premium membership to the Nexus for $100 back in '07 I think. Yet they host and serve millions of times the amount of data than the creation club does, and don't ask a penny from the mod creators. They have a donation system for the modders, but don't take a cut.

@@captbloodbeard I think responsibility for functionality of the mods, availability of the mods and publicity (like actively marketing the mods on social media and other places) should fall on Bethesda (if it doesn't already). So basically the same way Steam does for games. If they take those responsibilities getting a cut is justified. (Also quality control! All future paid mods need to be on this level of cost to content ratio.)

very interesting, so the dual's with insults lol, and the progression for more dual's, it kind of reminds me of the witcher 3 when it came down to the card games, you needed to progress in order to play cards against other opponent's. i hope it offers stuff even in the vanilla story, like say when you meet the blackbriors and end up doing some missions for the thieves guild, maybe those annoying ledger missions could involve distractions or something so you can easily get away with changing their ledger.

How can you justify something that doesn't, and cannot, exist? This is 3rd party DLC. There is no such thing as a "paid mod", because having to pay for it makes it not a mod. This DLC does look great. But it isn't a "mod". Mods are created by non-affiliated developers[1], have no official support, and distributed for free. [1] There are RARE exceptions where an official developer on the team "goes rogue" and creates a mod for their own game on their own time, and releases it for free. These still count because they are doing it in an unofficial capacity, there is no official support, and it is still free.

It needs the Anniversary Edition, but does not require that you buy the extra anniversary CC content.
