Gopro Hero 9 Black Microphone problem external mic

The recent update made the adapter obsolete on the hero 9. According to other videos on youtube, a update in november will fix the issue.

Put your wind setting to off with your camera mic's settings,and then it will accept adapter and 3.5 mic, did it with my 9 black, works fine.

this is because the firmware, a taiwan youtuber found out, when you get your 9, you were asked to update your firmware, if you did, the old mic adopter will no longer work. so wait for another firmware update

@@iamking5103 tell me about it. they always sold out, it seems gopro can never get their mod ready for any of their gopros. the display mod took a year be available, and now the media mod. so i am guess every year you need buy a new media mod if you decide to upgrade.

I'm returning mine. I've gone out 3 times for photography sessions and this thing has failed in one way or another every single time. I'll get something that works. This is the most basic of functionalities.

I have the 3.5mm audio adapter from GoPro. Worked amazing for several months with my Rode Micro. Out of nowhere, I got this hissing white noise and no mic audio. I went crazy switching mics, cables, firmwares, 2 different GoPro cameras, and nothing, I repeat... nothing, worked. However, let me tell you. All I did was contact GoPro with video proof with no audio with external mic, and picture of the adapter, and they are sending me a replacement adapter by mail. Hopefully it arrives soon! I still dont understand why it just stopped working after great audio for 5-6 months..

This issue has been resolved w/ Firmware update 1.5 I just tested this thoroughly, and while my mic wasn't passing audio initially, I connected a TRRS to TRS adapter, as the 3.5mm USB-C adapter is TRS and not TRRS, and my new mic just happens to be TRRS! All good now.

I’ve also tried the adapter, and now the media mod. Tried with the purple panda and a few other external mic’s. Messed with the settings, with the hardware (including multiple TRS adapters), and still I get no audio at all. I’m using a GoPro Hero8 Black, ran out of ideas after downgrading firmware versions and updating one by one, no luck. I’ll contact GoPro tomorrow and see what they say

I bought recently the nine withe the mediamod. I also bought a 15€ microphone and it did not work.! I tried everything, nothing worked, till I disconnect the external power from the mediamod,....and then it worked very well.

I want to use my 9 black to motorcycle vlog. I was wanting to place the mike at the rear of the bike to get out of the wind and pick up the exhaust sound instead. I think I need to go to best buy and see what ( if anything ) they can do for me. This is my first camera and I am learning from scratch, disappointed with the mike situation.

Mine does not recognize both... the adapter and media mode... just bought 10... 10 cannot detect the adapter at all.

Gopro Intentionally removed the option to use the 3.5mm use when you did the update. It was on there when you took it out the package but once you did that update it was gone. This is to force you to purchase thier mic adapter for $80 which still sucks compared to evey single rode mic that is on the market, also they still ignored millions of request to add a 3.5mic jack instead they tell you to purchase the $50 mic adapter from the hero 7 whih by the way still does not work. I'm guessing this is why Ulanzi can't release any accessories for this POS until Oct 25. Seems Like Pure greed of a company with plumating stock. Needless to say I'll be returning this gopro and this big ass mic adapter back to them.

I used my GoPro Hero 7 adapter on my Hero 9 and shot video over the weekend and didn't experience any issues. I didn't get my media mod until today and I assume that will make it even easier.

after reading all the comments below I retested the external microphone and found that the Gopro was ignoring the external mic so all my sound was coming from the GoPro Mic's. I guess it's a good thing that I bought the media mod for it.

How did that mod work out for you. I did the firmware update to 1.6 when I bought it not the external mic won't work with media mod . Go pro is a scam. Never again will I by any of their crap. 😔

@@WillieWhale I've been using the media mod for over a year with an external mic and didn't have any issues. However eventually the mic jack in the media mod broke. GoPro replaced the media mod under warranty. I also used my old GoPro adapter with a Ulanzi case and that worked well after the firmware update.

I have the Movo WMIC50 wireless microphone that I use on my Canon 5D Mk IV and it works great at max 300 ft (LOS). However, I was concern about having to connect the Movo on the Gopro 9 and after watching this video I have decided not to purchase the GoPro 9. Maybe the GoPro 10 will fix this issue.

Sounds like its a money scheme from Gopro. I got the Gopro Hero 9 black in yesterday. I ordered the media mod today from Gopro.

It would be nice if they got the old adapter to work with the new 9. I knew it wouldn't work going in. I did buy the Media Mod for mine and it works great. I still have the old adapter for my 7. I kind of like the new Media Mod better though. And yes, the Rode Wireless and other mics work with the Media Mod, powered or not.

No one should buy that adapter even if it worked. It is clumsy, makes stabilization worse, you have to remove the door. Its nuts. Get the media mod for a nice compact solution. Yes, it costs more but it is much better, and it does more than let you use an extetnal mic. It is available now.

It´s the same bullshit when Gopro released an update for the Hero 7 to make third party batteries useless, because the Gopro only worked with the original Gopro batteries....just be a grateful fanboy and pay for your mods and original Gopro accessories...that´s what they want!

After the long research of 8 hours I have found that whether it is hero 8 and hero 9 or hero 10 or hero 11 or blah blah bah ....from now with the latest update of these camer from the company these will not work with the 3.5 mm adapter of RS 4500 which I have bought . Now let me tell you the reason : There is also a thing called Media Mod , which costs 6500 from go pro ... Now that's a complete cage of mics and others ... Now the small adapter which I had bought is very handy portable and works completely fine till last year's camera..= That's why customers prefer that portable thing over this huge cage named Media Mod which is almost 2000 RS costly than the portable one . So the sell of media mod got affected Now comapny got a Idea . With the latest manufacturing units , they launched a software update where they completely hide that they are blocking theey are blocking their camera proccesor from supporting that small one and comapny is forcing indirectly the customer to buy a Media Mod so that their sale can take a gear .. That mean I have to change the mic adapter with the Media Mod
