I don't see any real image quality upgrade here... Just some new hardware gymmics. By the way, the comparison between the DJI and Insta360 is not fair at all, you place the gopros on the chest (much more stable) and the others on the handlebar (super shaky)

Correct. You clearly see the GP9 loosing from the 7+8 under low light circumstances. This is because they have added more pixels to the same sensor size. Yep, the sensor size is the same! So actually your videos and photo's do not gain in quality, they gain in pixels. You want to gain real overall quality? Increase the sensor size. Same issue goes for reflex cameras DS (small sensor) and FX (large sensor)

Now let's see if the "other features" will be present in this camera. You know, freezing, overheating, video file losses and os on. I'm interesed, but I will keep my distance untill I know for sure that this is a reliable camera. 5K means nothing if the camera is not trustworthy to work as is supposed to. PS: what if DJI is "lurking in the shadows" with an Osmo Action 2? Would that not be fun?
@Dcrainmaker4 жыл бұрын
I think competition is great - I'd love to see DJI come back with something just as strong or stronger. After all, the reason we got the front screen on the Hero 9, is cause DJI introduced it last year on the OSMO Action.

Yeap! It's also hard to innovate when this gopro seems to have it all, minus 4K60 superwide. But this will also be solvable with a wider lens either from gopro, or other third party. I'm really curious what Ulanzi and other parties will come up with for this camera. But 'till then there's the matter of issues from my first post. On paper, the camera looks good and it might be my first ever gopro. But I need reliability. I need to be sure that when I press the rec button, the camera will function as it's supposed to.

For products I review, they get sent back to companies. For customs payments...I pay them myself (which aren't refundable despite the products going back) - this alone is thousands of dollars per year. For travel, I pay it myself. Last year when GoPro had meetings in Paris for the Hero 8 launch, I paid my own tickets to Paris, and all travel costs associated with it. And still gave the cameras/gear back afterwards. Hi! My name is Tyler I am a Go Pro Consumer. Go Pro Hero 9s are having an common issue overheating problem. Preventing streaming, hot climate, and use longer that 30minutes to an hour. I bought a GoPro Hero 9 October 2020. I bought it for streaming purposes. It took me a month just to get this to stream: research and ordered parts I had to pay for just to get it to stream (had to buy a media mod (Go pro accessory) and purchase mini hdmi cabling. Extra time was taken up to research how to get it to work on a Mac Book Pro on top of working full time with my job). By the time I was done with this my 30 day return was up. When everything was setup I couldn’t even get 30minutes out of a stream before the camera overheated and shut off. I figured okay these are just not compatible for streaming so I kept my Go Pro Hero 9 around for small video production. Eventually I had a need to us it for training videos for work. I used it within room temperature and filmed around 30 minutes worth of training content and it shuts off and cannot be used for another hour until it’s completely cools off. I figured it was a manufacturer defect and called Go Pro support. I ask if this is a common issue. They tell me it’s not and have me replace it. I get the replacement. First thing I do is test a video recording on default out of the box for 30minutes in room temperature. It turns off before the 30 minute mark due to overheating. I call support. Ask if it’s a common issue. They tell me it is normal and cannot do anything for me. It goes all the way up the manager chain to what I was told: “the last point of contact.” This is a customer service team within the Philippines. I ask if I can be transferred to corporate or an American solutions center and their lead supervisor tells me that an American Go Pro Support team does not exist. Basically he ends up telling me that he will report this to their product development team. I ask if they will follow up with me and he continues to avoid the question until he hangs up with me. (I’m requesting a refund or store credit so I can by a working camera the whole time). I have no idea who to talk to. I couldn’t really afford this product in the first place and now I’m stuck with something I cannot use. Even if I wanted to go hiking with this thing I know it’s just going to overheat and shut off. Definitely not worth the $300-500 I could have used for food and family. I was planning to turn this around with media content. I can hardly even do that. The Go Pro Hero 9s heating problem is a huge issue. With how hot the screen got I’m almost positive that things will start breaking within the unit from use, and Go Pro has done nothing to resolve the issue for me or the other consumers who are also struggling with this. Is there any legal amplifications for something like this? It’s sad that I have to look into legal just to be heard over this issue. How is the Go Pro Hero 9 not recalled? I’d just like my money back and get a camera that will actually work for my start up. I also wasted almost 3 quarters of a year wasting my time relying on Go Pro products when I could have been filming with something that works. Instead I’m writing this. Please let me know if anyone could point me in the direction of a legal firm that can help resolve this. Let’s get this issue on the Go Pro Hero 9 recalled.

@Andrew MTB Can you take your phone scuba diving? Can it mount to a drone? A helmet? A car fender? The end of a surfboard? But to answer your question, yes.

What a breath of fresh air... no waffling... just fast and furious facts! It's been a while since I watched a KZbin video from start to finish! love your passion! You didn't say much about the microphone... is it good enough for vlogging or do you still need an external mic?

There are some things missing from this review. For instance, right out of the box the smart remote and GoPro's external mic adapter work, however with the firmware upgrade, both of these devices are disabled with GoPro now saying the remote is not compatible. Also have you tried adding GPS data to the footage yet? I'm seeing a very large problem with GPS info, it's not recorded in most cases, in other cases it's wildly inaccurate. I've done a side by side test with the Hero 8 and I have no issue at all with Hero 8 GPS. However I haven't been able to recording GPS data at all with the Hero 9. Then there's the extensive smoothening of the picture quality, the low light blue and red dots when shooting at ISO 400 or lower and reports of audio pops and cackling when recording. Hope you can do a "review update" down the road after living with the camera for a few more weeks.

furious to have sold my 8 for a 9 and now i can't use the remote, features should not be removed only refined. hasn't arrived yet and hope it lives up to the fanboy hype. if not will return it and wait for a osmo action v2. 1 step forward and 1 back with every new release lately
