To anyone who doesn’t know, Julia Childs is like the mother of televised cooking shows. She spent many years in France learning their cuisine before returning to America, writing the first French to English translated cook book, and started a cooking show where her gimmick was adding butter to everything. She popularize the cliche term of saying “Bon Appetite” while serving a dish. Before all of this though, during WWII, she served in the US’s military science division attempting to find a shark repellent for airmen and navy men who ended up stuck in the ocean, which means she’s scientifically and culinary smart.

@@fierypandaofdoom That's not what the phrase means. A cliche refers to a phrase or idea which is repeated frequently-- so, a, it is not a positive or a negative. It just is. A cliche can be used poorly or used well. Likewise, they aren't calling wishing people eating well a cliche, they're referring to the American use of the specific phrase which was popularized by Julia Child because Americans watched her show en masse and people started saying it to copy her, to the point that most Americans don't realize that's where it came from. To summarize: cliches aren't good or bad, and the cliche isn't just wishing people a good meal, it is the specific phrase having been repeated. Bon appetite!

And on top of that, emaculate flow and devastating lines. Also, one thing I've noticed is that Child is always cooking in her parts, reflecting how, as one of the first cooking shows, her public imagine was limited to largely cooking instruction, whereas Gordon Ramsey's working with camera crews, a team of chefs, and all around doing anything BUT cooking, as his shows are all about roasting terrible kitchens and his public image is more of a critic than a chef. Once again, amazing planning from ERB.

@ben1ben2ben14 жыл бұрын
He has mellowed in recent years, but it is NOT an act. If anything he is much more censored on TV than in his actual restaurants. He is a really nice guy, but he demands perfection in the kitchen and is crazy when running a kitchen like most Michelin level chefs. Gordon's temper and outbursts were legendary FAR before he became a TV star. His old boss Marco used to use Ramsay to scare his employee's when they messed up because Gordon was so terrifying. He was making headlines in papers for being the toughest chef in the UK to work under years before he was on TV. Also every chef that has worked for him (not like the fake intern you are talking about) and every chef Gordon has worked under has said he is legit terrifying This is what the REAL Gordon is like in the kitchen and its far worse than on Hells Kitchen kzbin.info/www/bejne/pmK7YmSXgaZ2qdE
@glitterboy20984 жыл бұрын
@@ben1ben2ben1 if you watch his shows you notice a trend. when he is working with kids and with untrained/inexperienced people, he's very supportive and calm with them. even when they mess up. because they are still learning and he is trying to teach them. but when he's doing shows with people who are supposed to be Professionals at cooking (whether trained chefs or people running restaurants), he gets more nitpicky and doesn't hold back when they make seriously boneheaded mistakes. because they *should* know better and often need a bit of harsh treatment and ego puncturing to get it through to them they made mistakes and need to fix it. his latter type of shows are the ones that got him his fame though. so that is the image people have of him.

@@arekpetrosian4965 He attacked her cooking. She attacked his fake persona. I mean just look at Master Chef vs Master Chef Kids. He's not an asshole in an necessary way. He's like a Drill Instructor and the Kitchen is his parade deck. Her burns weren't substantial because they didn't really attack him.
@arekpetrosian49653 жыл бұрын
@@crusadrian5010 By attacking her cooking, he's trying to attack traditional French cooking; that's a major fail, since she was the one who introduced French cuisine to America, and she had an impact on American cooking and awareness of fine cuisine that Ramsay can't hope to match. As to him being an asshole, yeah...it's just an act, for the show. I've read that in real life, in person, he's sort of a sweetheart, actually. And her burns were worse because she WAS attacking him as a person, and not his skill in the kitchen. Also, as a side note, I found this on Julia Child's Wikipedia page: "n 2000, Child received the French Legion of Honor (Légion d'honneur) and was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2000. She was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2003; she received honorary doctorates from Harvard University, Johnson & Wales University (1995), Smith College (her alma mater), Brown University (2000), and several other universities. In 2007, Child was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame." The page also goes into her career in the OSS (the predecessor of the CIA), and her rather impressive career with them. It's a good read, especially the part about the shark repellent.

@@arekpetrosian4965 Despite her influence, her cooking is seriously outdated by modern standards and as it’s pointed out in this battle, was highly unhealthy. That’s what Gordon was dissing her about. Not her influence.
