Great job getting your son involved! My so started "helping" me with home installations and repairs at about 2 years old. So I bought him an age appropriate tool box and kept updating it with Christmas and birthday gifts each year. He will be 50 next year, is very handy and has a garage full of tools and equipment. He now helps me a lot with my home because at 76 I have limited mobility and balance issues. Keep up the good work Dad!

Great job describing in detail the wiring and installation. Love the fact you are teaching your son the field. I completed the installation in less than 10 minutes. Thank you for the very well explained video.

Nice video. I'm concerned about a code violation on your black HOT wire exposed in the wire nut. Electrical fire hazard and potential human electrical shock or death. Please trim the black wire so it is inside the wire nut. Another good idea is to wrap the nuts with black electrical tape. Good luck guys.

You’re probably aware of this, but just in case some of your viewers aren’t, the dusk on/dawn off schedule can be set directly from the Gosund app. It’s much easier to set it there than from the Alexa app.

What model switch is this. I just installed a new SW5 switch by Gosund (now G Home) and after 3 days it stopped working with Alexa. I replaced it with another, and after 3 days that stopped working to. Wierd thing is I also installed some SW6 3-way switches, and have no problems. Curious about your switch model so I can try an older version of the single pole.

Do you have to connect it with ALL the neutral wires? Can you take one out from the bunch and connect it? I am switching one from a 4 gang set, and it’s too many white wires to add the little cap!

These wifi switches are very simple to install. You will need a neutral (white) wire for them to work. Fortunately, all my boxes have white wires available. Switches are very nicely made and good looking.

How did you determine where each black wire connected to the switch? Or does it even matter? Thanks! 👍
@skiran63164 жыл бұрын
From the other videos I deduced that it doesn’t matter. Hot lines should be connected to complete the circuit, Neutral wire transfer the extra electricity if produced more than 15 Amps and as usual ground will provide a easy escape route in case of emergency. Even if we get hotlines wrong switch will be read wrong like if it is turn off position it will function as On. This is my deductions but please make your own research or get professional help.

@@skiran6316 Thank you for the response! That makes sense, and I will keep researching. 👍
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
Hey. I agree with @sai k the two black wires shouldn’t matter if they are swapped. The on and off / opening and closing of the switch will let it flow to the light or outlet no matter which orientation. I’m not an electrician, but that’s just my findings. We love these outlets. Especially hooking them up to our Alexa routines.

I tried this upgrade but only have TWO wires coming out of my wall; one black, one white. I'm stuck!

The black should be the hot wire. This explanation sucks. Could have done without the kid being involved and shortened the video into 5 minutes.

I have 3 black wires. I have tried doing different combinations even tried connecting to 2 wires to the one black for the light switch. Light flickers but that's it.
@BrickBuildingKids4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s possible with the neutral. I tried a few different methods today and came up with the same conclusion. You may have luck connecting your neutral and ground to your ground (I think it’s called bootleg) but I’m not sure I would trust it. In my switch, the previous owner ran a white wire which was actually the hot wire so all the switch does is open and close that connection and didn’t run a neutral.
@antonion6804 жыл бұрын
@@BrickBuildingKids I found what the issue was. I capped off one of the blacks since it was pretty much useless. And only used 2 this time. But the reason it would flicker my white wasn't tight enough. I had to use a bigger nut since the white already had 3 wires twisted into it.

Oh, man. Always TEST the circuit for power before putting a screwdriver to it. Both sides. ALWAYS. Unless you want to show the kid how to make a screwdriver fly across the room and stick in the wall. Disconnect everything else BEFORE the ground. Not a big deal, but always safer if there's anything odd you don't know about. And it's usually a better idea to test the circuit before putting everything back in the box. And maybe once again after pushing everything in but before putting the cover on. It's too easy to miss something behind the switch, especially one this large. (Personal experience.) The kid will probably like doing the "It's on!" "It's off!" routine with Dad. Picking nits, that orange cap is either too small to cram in 3 wires or too big for all the double wire connections. Get the right size for safety. Final nitpick, when connecting copper and aluminium, it's worth 5 bucks to get a tube of anti-oxidant compound to apply before putting on the caps. $5.49 is worth the peace of mind. Is that your Dad's needle nose pliers? Even though I have newer, I like using Dad's when it's not a difficult task. Especially his hammer. Unlike the joke, I haven't replaced the head or the (all wood) handle.

WTF ??? There are 2 black wires coming from the box. One is hot. He didn't identify the hot wire and to which switch black wire it would be connected.
@BrickBuildingKids3 жыл бұрын
It doesn’t matter. The circuit doesn’t close unless the switch is initiated.
