Koolbob THANK YOU - I've been scuffling with the string trimmer thinking "there must be a better way" and was thinking about trying a hedge trimmer instead. You've saved me literal hours of my life.

I've always thought why isn't this a common garden invention. A hand held powered scythe as this? Much easier but using hedge trimmer will blunt blades on grassy type material.. Why don't someone invent one and don't rip us off lol

Those of you watching this, I have had every hedge trimmer on the market. This use of one is brilliant. There is one tool I would suggest overall. It is a Hass Varna like this gentleman is using, however, the model is a 525HE3. I have every pro level pole tool that Hannah makes and almost their full line of pro chainsaws. This is the tool that I use the most. It is a shorter pole saw with articulating head and would be perfect for this application. That is turning it into a form of scythe for weed eating. This is a brilliant application and it works ingeniously. This particular tool is almost 3 times more powerful than the homeowner version and only one and a half times the cost. Hope this helps.

I have a pole saw that also has a hedge trimmer attachment. I was thinking about trying it on my long grass and after seeing your video, I will try it. I just have to wait until the air quality from the fires north of me clears up. Thanks for the video.

Your hedge trimmer attachment may work, but if you find the pole too long or the angle of the hedge trimmer is awkward. If so, you might be happier with a hedge trimmer attachment that articulates so you can set it to be level with the ground.

I have a metal disc with three blades on my brush cutter. Goes through thick weeds better than a hedge trimmer. Will also easily cut through saplings up to an inch thick.

I think you're on to something, I've cut areas like that with a Stihl trimmer and heavy line. I may make a hedge trimmer my next purchase. If you've go anything too large for the teeth or trimmer line, look into a "Pullerbear" root puller made in Canada. Cleverly designed to use leverage for pulling up 0 -3" saplings, invasive species, etc.

I'm using a Husqvarna 128LD string trimmer, it's rated at 1hp. I wouldn't recommend any less than 1hp since it takes more power to run the hedge trimmer attachment than it does to operate the standard string trimmer attachment. If I were shopping for a string trimmer today I would probably buy the commercial duty Husqvarna 525LK with about 30% more power than my current trimmer. Any string trimmer with 1hp or more and the ability to use different attachments should do just fine.

Sorry I didn't make that clearer in the video. The hedge trimmer attachment is a universal unit that fits most string trimmers with shafts that disconnect so you can use other attachments. Here's the one I'm using... www.homedepot.com/p/TrimmerPlus-Universal-22-in-Articulating-Hedge-Trimmer-String-Trimmer-Attachment-TPH720/317626710

Did you build the timmer? I am interested to get those. Just bought house with huge back yards 3 acres but left me over 2 feet tall grass. The second owner never bothered to clean them up. So I have to do it myself. Alone. This part for sure gonna help me. I am gonna buy brand new trimmer. And I would like buy this parts add for my trimmer. How did you hook it up together?
@Koolbob2 Жыл бұрын
Some string trimmers have a shaft that can be separated in the middle so accessories other than string trimming heads can be attached. There are a few trimmers that will only accept accessories from their manufacturers, but most will accept 'universal' accessories. I'm using a Husqvarna string trimmer with a Universal 22 in. Articulating Hedge Trimmer String Trimmer Attachment. www.homedepot.com/p/TrimmerPlus-Universal-22-in-Articulating-Hedge-Trimmer-String-Trimmer-Attachment-TPH720/317626710 Be sure to get a string trimmer with a powerful motor (at least 1hp), it takes more power to run the Articulating Hedge Trimmer than it takes to spin a piece of string. I see that Husqvarna sells two different trimmers with Articulating Hedge Trimmer built in and a 1.34hp motor. One trimmer looks to have a longer shaft than the other, depending on your height, you may prefer one over the other. I'm sure other manufacturers have similar models. Here are the two Husqvarna models I just found. www.husqvarna.com/us/hedge-trimmers/525he3/ www.husqvarna.com/us/hedge-trimmers/525he4/

@Koolbob2 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and taking the time to leave a comment! It takes more power to run the hedge trimmer attachment than it does to spin the string trimmer head, so be sure to buy a trimmer with enough power. I'm using a Husqvarna 128LD which is rated at 1hp and I would recommend getting a similar trimmer with at least 1hp. www.husqvarna.com/us/string-trimmers/128ld/

Does it work for the EGO String trimmer ST1510E?
@Koolbob28 ай бұрын
I'm not familiar with EGO trimmers, but if your trimmer will accept a 'universal' attachment, then this should work. If your EGO trimmer uses a proprietary, EGO specific attachment connection, then look for an articulating hedge trimmer to fit an EGO.

How Would That Work For Cattails Below The Water Surface?+

Interesting question. I bet it would cut just fine, but I'm sure the water would ruin the unit after the first use. Thanks for watching! We do have a couple patches of Blackberrys, but no more than a couple of square feet. Our weeds are mostly a thicket of grapevine, grasses, sassafras and pine seedlings and other 'stuff'. I lost the manual years ago, but I think the trimmer will cut up to 3/8 diameter material.

I use a similar setup (Stihl, but same idea) and cut brush with it with little issue up to about 3/4" diameter. Bush honeysuckle, green briars, weeds...it will cut it all. The hedge trimmer attachment on the Stihl is my preferred tool for cutting shooting lanes where I hunt, actually.

@@Koolbob2 I use a Stihl Kombi with a hedge trimmer (same concept as your Husqvarna), and the hedge trimmer has no issue with rocks. It won't throw them nor really be damaged by them. The only thing I've come up against that is a worry is an old wire fence. The hedge clippers actually will cut the fencing wire, but it isn't good for the blades.
