Even as they antagonize Nazarick's people, several are still around. Brain survived not one but two encounters with Shalltear, many lizardmen survived... or were revived, and (as an example of non-antagonists) the people of Carne village are doing pretty well.

the one thing missing here of the relation between the emperor and the Nobles of the Empire of Baharuth. Arche's parents are former Nobles, who have been removed from their positions and disgraced due to corruption. The emperor has performed a massive purge of the nobles and hired on competence. This means his rule is far stronger and more centralized than that of the kingdom of Re-estize, it also means the rampant corruption of internal politics found in Re-estize is far rarer in Baharuth although resentment towards the emporer is high among disgraced nobles. 4:05 saying to much is spoilers here, but the strongest you have gotten a clear picture of so far would be Evileye of the Blue roses, Fluder here is the strongest Magic caster outside Nazaric you’ve run into as he is able to cast 6th tier magic. However, the “Rigrit” that was just mentioned, and the characters introduced in ep1 of season 2, likely far exceed those we have directly met. 12:06 yep Demiurage kidnapped 100,000 (is it actually 10,000 other comments say its a translation error) people from the capital.. he really did a lot of damage 21:55 Yes these are “workers” not adventurers. They are similar but work outside of the guild and tend o do jobs the guild won't approve either because they are unsavory or because they are against the general noninterference in politics philosophy of the Guild.

Actually im pretty sure the 100K abducted was a translation error should be 10k instead, not that it really matters anyway. Also 14:22 the reason for the Annual war is to weaken the Re estize kingdom, because all their soldiers are drafted peasants (the empires are professional knights aka a standing army). So every year right before the Harvest the empire comes up with a ridiculous claim to declare war and then they retreat after a small skimirsh. They achieved their objective simply by getting the Kingdoms peasants on the battlefield instead of tending their fields. So the Emperor of Baharuth is playing the long game so that the kingdom will experience a shortage of food and will be weakened by it.

Yep, the guild can kick you out for doing the job of the temples for no pay.

Answering some questions (based on what has been shown on the anime so far, so no spoilers): 3:33 - Who's the strongest outside Nazarick: The Granny (Rigrit) who was talking to a dragon (at the beginning of season 2) said that if unrestrained, "the dragon would be the most powerful being in the world". She's also the one who gave a powerful ring to Gazef, and in the epilogue of season 2, Brain and the Blue Rose ladies were laughing about how Evileye also got beaten by Rigrit once. The guy from Theocracy (also at the beginning of season 2) said that the white/black haired girl with the Rubick's Cube was stronger than the Vampire they encountered (Shalltear). Regardless of whether he knows how powerful she REALLY is or not, remember that Shalltear killed off two of them and wounded a third one of their party almost instantly. The Empire's grandpa "wizard" with the huge white beard used Summon Undead 6th (6th tier spell), when being able to cast tier 5 spells already puts one in the realm of heroes. Additionally, he said that if he managed to dominate the Death Knight, it would mean he has surpassed Rigrit (one of the Thirteen Heroes), thus becoming the strongest magic caster ever. So true or not, they're some good candidates for the position. As for what the guy at 26:10 did, he probably kicked her or something. His reaction to Imina and the way his party looks like (elves dressed like slaves) implies that he's a racist.

Yeah, basically the salary jobs vs gig economy. When you're on salary, you get privileges and rights, PTOs, sick pay, and the like, but you basically have to do what your employers say. As a gig worker, you are free to accept or reject any job you like, but you have to deliver no matter what, otherwise you're just not getting paid, so you're basically putting everything on the line. I know this isn't the most accurate analogy, because we don't live in fantasy feudal society so we don't have the exact analogue, but it's good enough for all intents and purposes.

I don't know if it is said in the anime or if it is a manga/LN exclusive information, but the annual war had the goal of weakening the kingdom slowly over a long period of time. The war is always around the harvest time and because of the size difference between the empire and the kingdom, the kingdom had to recruit their farmers and other common people into the army, while the empire could simply send their soldiers. The kingdom didn't have enough people during the harvest time, which means less food, less trading and so forth. They have less people to harvest every year and they realized it to late, that is why the kingdom is slowly falling apart, as well as all those corrupted nobles. In a nutshell: The empire chipped away at them and only wait for a good moment to make the last strike

Ainz was never told what Demiurge wanted to do with the kidnapped citizens. He just had pity on them when he discovers that many of them, including kids, were taken. Therefore, he asks Demiurge that those who didn't disrespect himself or Nazarick be shown mercy and die without any pain. **Spoiler down** * * * * We know Ainz doesn't know about the Happy Farm, because in the Holy Kingdom Arc, when they discover a piece of paper describing the demon's experiments, Ainz is legit confused as to why Jaldaboath would skin prisoners. He always had the false impression that Demiurge was dealing with chimeras/beasts.

Since armies were largely centered around a muster from the villages, that same infantry was the farmers and wagons needed to plant, harvest, and move crops. As a result warfare tended to be somewhat seasonal, and things like described here (one territory suppressing the potential threat of another by keeping their population in check through routine border skirmishes) wasn't all that uncommon.

one of my favorite arcs, letting alone the title of this episode "invitation to death". in my opinion the empire and especially the emperor El Nix are very cool. he took control over the empire at a very young age (he is 22 now) and imediately reformed the whole state by getting rid of foolish and corrupt nobles and instead relate on just the ones who are truely capeble of something. instead of using 'higher born' people he recruits skilled people regardless if noble or not. Even the annal wars make sense because with this system he constantly shows his power to the other kingdoms and he can keep them small. the other side is perfecly shown in the conversation of the king with his three children. while the king with his smart kids planing to rebuild the kingdom, meatheads like his older son and the other guy with him can't think of other things than wasting valuable resources on a war which won't be comming. Also on top of that they demand a punishment for a guy just doing his job correctly and think he shouldn't be in the army in the first place regardless that he is the strongest warrior in the kingdom and acting as a deterrent for other countries.

I believe Zesshi Zetsumei, (the girl with the Rubik's cube and black/white hair) is lvl 95 or so, so she would hypothetically have a chance, except all of Nazarick is equipped to the teeth with top-class gear, the gap is way too big. For example, Entoma and Evileye are basically the same level, not only did Evileye have a spell that hard-counters Entoma, but she had 2 competent allies, and they only just barely eeked out a victory.

About the question around 14:00 As far as i am aware there was no actual historical case of 2 kingdoms who had annual major battles, that would have ruined both kingdoms in a mater of a few years. That said, it was very normal for skirmishes and minor battles to occur rather frequent between regional lords around borders. Both goverments would pretend it was done outside of their official knowledge most of the time. Simply put it would just be 2 minor armies meeting up in a field trying to intimidate one another through numbers and equipment. Usually the standoff would last a few days with light infantry, skrirmishers and cavalry from both sides having minor classes with a few injuries or deaths and as soon as supplies would run low they would withdraw. Now, keep in mind i am not a historian, just an enthusiast so there might be instances where that have happened that i dont know about, but i find that highly unlikely considering the resources and finances required as well as the real threat of one side being overwhelmingly defeated by luck leaving them undefended. I dont think any state of the feudal era would easily commit to such a dangerous situation.

I didnt have much to say in this episode and I dont know if you know this already (since you are probably further ahead in patreon) When Ainz tried to break Shalltear`s mind controll status using wish upon a star, he stated that only thing that could overwrite the effects of wish was a world class item. That means the thing that controlled Shalltear`s mind = a world class item. Now, what is a world class items. In the lore of Ygdrasill, they are items crafted from the destroyed leaves of the world tree, every one of them holding power equal to a world. In game there were 200 total World class items with different effect. Only ways to resist the effects of a world item is either having another world item or having some special classes. That is why when Ainz teleported to the forest with Aura and Mare before fighting Shalltear; Mare had Avarice and Generosity, a pair of gauntlets one angelic and white and other demonic and black, Aura had Depiction of Nature and Society, the big tome behind her. So they would be immune to the mind control effects of the world class item. INFORMATION FROM NOVEL FROM THE TIME AINZ VS SHALLTEAR HAPPEND The world items were so strong that they could break the balance of the game completely and were also called "balance breakers". And among the 200 world items, there were 20 items coined "The Twenty" with power unrivaled by any other item. One of them for example allow you to contact the devs and request them to change the magic system of the game (should be accepted by both the devs and the player). Now why did I explain this here? Because in the novels, after learning that Shalltear was mind controlled by a world class item, Ainz thought that this was one of the best of the worst things that could happen. Reason for that is explained. Longius, another one of The Twenty, completely and permamently erases a character from the game at the cost of deleting the user as well. If Longinus was used, life of a 10 year old child could be traded for the life of one of the strongest beings in Nazarick

in the new world. undead naturally spawn around places where a lot of undead ppl are, ergo graveyards, thats why the one in E-Rantel in season 1 was so heavily fortified cuz undead just naturally come around during the night. the more undeads are around the higher the chances of stronger versions spawning. evtl can see stuff like elder liches, skeletal dragons or even natural spawning death knight like the one in the tower dungeon here, spawned on the katza plaines 5 yrs ago, fluder - the older mage - was called in to take em out, used fly and bombarded em for hours on end from the air with fireballs till chipped it evlt down enough to subdue it and carry it back to where is now...

There's a couple important perspective details that have already been covered in the show, but are easy to get lost in the background. They can get missed even easier if the audience isn't familiar with massive multi-player online games, like Yggdrasil or World of Warcraft, and how certain aspects are generally standard. If there is a connection between this world and the game Yggdrasil, then it's good to keep in mind that Momonga, the guild of Ainz Ooal Gown, and the Tomb of Nazarick came from the very height of the game just before all the servers were scheduled to be shut down. That means that every DLC (downloadable content), every expansion, every dungeon, every spell, every class, every bit of equipment, and maximum character level increase possible was released to the game and was all part of what Momonga had access to. If a player from an earlier version of Yggdrasil had come to this new world in some way, it is very unlikely they would have access to (or possibly even be aware) of the newest, hottest gear and parts of the game. As big game updates will frequently increase the maximum level a character can reach, then a character from an earlier version would probably be working with lower maximum level than Momonga. How much difference could those updates actually make? That segues to the next point. The guild Ainz Ooal Gown was a raiding guild. That means taking both small and large groups of players to fight monsters, dungeons, and other challenges out in the world. These challenges are generally the best way to get the most elite and high-level gear. To keep players buying updates and make downloadable content worth it, the power increase from new items, classes, races, and game additions are the best way to keep players buying into the game. Each new update would tend to invalidate the items available in previous updates. A good way to find out how this experience can be to get through is to ask players from World of Warcraft, Guild Wars, or similar MMORPGs how the loot grind can be when a new update comes out. A character playing the game Yggdrasil from four years in would likely have a comically different power level than Momonga's at the very end of the game. As a side note, such games with content made to be challenged by groups of players, like World of Warcraft where 40 players may attack a single monster or challenge, can use the term level deceptively. There's a big difference between a single character at level 100, and a boss monster that is referred to as level 100 while being designed to be a challenge for a group of forty characters at level 100. While the term level might be used for both examples, they aren't the same and a character at level 100 challenging such a monster solo would get wiped. Players of games like this have to adjust to this weird difference of terms not meaning the same thing based on context. Yggdrasil was a game that included Player versus Player combat with guilds fighting, attacking, and even invading each other's territory and home bases. So the customized Tomb of Nazarick was built to defend against incursions from other guilds, and the Floor Guardians were generally designed to combat groups of enemies instead of single opponents. It's very likely that a level 100 Floor Guardian is not the same power as a level 100 player. Non-player characters (NPCs) are generally exempt from the same power limitations players have to deal with as they are essentially background scenery and base defenses that players can't control directly. For example, in the game Yggdrasil, Albedo or Shalltear couldn't be taken out of the Tomb of Nazarick to fight characters out in the world, so her power level would only matter if someone invaded where she was located. If someone ended up fighting them in the game, then it was their own decision to be in that spot and they had better have planned for it. The Floor Guardians were the highest forms of base defenses and probably closer to a Raid Monsters than Player Characters. Momonga/Ainz beating Shalltear was extra impressive. Especially since Shalltear was purposefully designed to be a house where her typical race weaknesses were smoothed over by her class powers, and the weaknesses of her class were smoothed over by her racial powers. She was meant to be the closest things to an insurmountable challenge for players to figh... to lose to.

In the LN version Arche dies and never comes back. According to the author the parents never learned their lesson and the sisters were sold into sex slavery so the parents could further finance their life style, the sisters supposedly were raped to death.

The annual battle the Baharuth Empire conducts against the Re-Estize Kingdom is to force Re-Estize to conscript commoners, mostly farmers from villagers, and interrupt their harvest season to keep the Kingdom weak. As Ainz mentions at the beginning of the episode, the Empire has a standing army of trained "knights" whereas in the Kingdom, knights are nobles that lead a comparatively small number of men-at-arms to protect their fiefs and bring levies when the king calls for it. The battles have mostly been posturing with only a few real skirmishes and sorties with relatively very low casualties despite the high amount of troops committed to the field.

rigrit is the old lady that talked with the dragon at the begin of season 2, she was part of the 13 heroes , and is one of the oldest humans still alive, this is revealed in that first ep too. she was part of the party Blue Rose too, and the one who introduces evil eye to it, as her replacement. around this time in the LN its revealed that Rigrit is a necromancer (and during fight vs demiurge its shown that evil eye is an elemntarist with a focus on earth elements - crystal being a stronger sub category of earth element, she is more support focused then offensive tho....) she is somewhere in the range of lv 50~60, with evil eye being slightly higher then her, but not stronger. necromancer vs elementarist is a bad combo for her.

Welcome to the new arc of this series! Let me tell you, you're in for a hell of a ride, I hope you'll like it! 1- I can't answer the first big question without entering spoilers territories, but in term of strength, all I can say is even after 4 seasons, we still haven't seen the strongest members of that world, and we'll see some pretty strong ones. 2- About anime's opening, there are very few I watch everytimes. Overlord's 4 opening are among them. The opening of the first Spice and Wolf anime (not the remake currently airing is absolutely great and I still lsiten to it to this day. The first Hellsing series as a great opening, almost all of it's OST was smooth jazz and it was awesome. Database (Log Horizon's opening) is my personal favorite. Those are the one I'm remembering from the top of my head, but I know there are more. 3- Oh, the mistranslation during the Renner's scene. Her brother never said the demons kidnapped 100k people, he mentionned 10k people. On this one, I'm really not sure what the localisator was thinking. Adding a 0 to that number makes such a huge difference, it makes the scene unbelievable and more comical while 10k would make it horrible and heartbreaking. After all, we already know those 10k people were kidnapped with their families, but were seperated during the whole thing, so for each one of them, there's at least another victim we know of, and in many cases multiple other victims. If it was 100k, it would mean litteraly everyone in the capital was kidnaped during that night... Yeah, that wasn't the case at all. But hey, localisator taking some... "artistic liberties" is par for the course and a reason there has been multiple huge controversies in the last few years. 4- About the annual wars things... Since you told me in another comment that you are Irish (the one where I explained how much alcool Ramiris actually drank in the first episode of the new season of That time I got Reincarnated as a Slime) I would highly recommend you look at the history of the multiples clans that built your country. A few of them did have yearly wars.

Well three things, its actually confirmed that demiurge took 100,000 people. The other thing that annual war between the empire and the kingdom is very clever tactic. The kingdom doesn't have an army they need to draft peasants so in the harvest season a lot of villages end up not having enough manpower, basically the empire was slowly weakening the kingdom. Also the might be an exact science but not in overlord, the emperor could literally be considered the best person in overlord

War Seasons are very common throughout history. But attacking during harvest time is more rare because both sides of a conflict need men to actually harvest the crops. Empire can afford to do it because their Military is specialized and professional. Smaller but well trained has a lesser impact on the Empire's harvest season. The Kingdom however uses conscripts, and should be avoiding war during Harvest time. Being attacked every year at harvest time would put a strain on the Kingdom. Even if they don't lose the battle, there will be unseen damage to the economy year after year.

Just in case... cause i heard the words "whoever turned shaltear"... we technically know who turned shaltear, we saw it happen on screen... She was turned by a woman in white who used the "world" item on her while fighting... but shaltear also killed her at the same time... it was a double k.o. except the woman died and shaltear got mind wiped only... that is why even though she got turned she just stayed there standing... whe was mind controlled but the controller died before giving any order... Now... we know just a bit about the people behind that woman... from the first episode of season 2 when they were talking about how the stuff with shaltear went...

Luke is seeing 'The Empire'. The old man is Fludder, a powerful magic caster. However, as a powerful caster, he couldn't control the Death Knight they have. Darkness is the name of Momon and Nabe's Team. Just like The Blue Roses are Lakylus and her group's name. Momon is point out the difference between the Empire and the Kingdom. The Kingdom's army is made of volunteers and armies of the Nobles and Royals. In the case of the Empire, their forces raised versus being 'volunteers'. So in this case, a trained army versus the kingdom's hodge podge. Going back to the Kingdom, they are preparing for the upcoming annual 'skirmish' with the Empire. Barbarosa is the first prince, who was mentioned as probably corrupt and in league with the Eight Fingers group. One of the things you will find out is there is 'factionism' in the Kingdom, the traditional Royals and Aristocrats. We are introduced to 'Workers'. They are basically 'Adventurers', however, they are not part of the 'Guild' system. So they are 'teams' that will work for money, but often for jobs that aren't maintained via guilds. This group is being asked, along with a few other worker teams to check out some ruins. The young blonde woman is Arche, a reasonably level Mage with a skill to judge the power level of opponents. The interesting thing about Arche, is she part of a former aristocratic family. Jircniv changed the system in the Empire, where there is no Royal or Aristocrats. So you learn that Arche' family is no longer 'rich' but her parents are trying to 'reclaim' their past by flaunting wealth. They are practically living off Arche, so to speak. Arche cares more about her two sisters who love her deeply. This is the motivation for Arche to take this job, because she wants to take her sisters away from her foolish parents. The Worker groups are different types. Foresight, the one we got the most info on. The one group, Tenmu, where the man is a Human 'supremist', so Luke accurately called him out as a douche bag. Erya (That is his name) has 3 elven slaves he uses as his support. And you notice, they are treated poorly.

in the empire elves themselves aren't really treated that horribly and they're very uncommon, however the Heavenly warrior hails from the Theocracy where they belive any nonhuman races to be less than garbage. You can see this as most of the characters we see from the Empire don't really mind Immina at all and even abhors how he treats his elf slaves.

the kingdom has a total of 9million people living in it, and nazarick abducted around 100k from the capitol. the empire with gilgamesh and old wizard du is a lot smaller at around 4~5mil or so. but is a lot more advanced then it. still behind the slane theocracy tho.

So as far as I'm aware in our world there is no 'annual battle' that would occur between nations as a whole often enough to be considered just how it goes, like pumpkin spice latte's always showing up around september. That said though it was reasonably common to have raiders from either opposing villages or opposing nations cross boundaries to steal from others during specific times of year, like harvest, where all the work has been done to procure the stuff but it hasn't been consumed or processed yet into a safer location.

But basically none of them would have a single major fight with whatever small clean up fights every harvest season or every spring etc. It'd usually be after the initial planting season (early spring) then continue on until a few weeks to a month before harvest where most of the army would head back. It would normally be either attacks of opportunity (surprise) or a lengthy campaign to capture a specific objective like a pass or a city. After which things would either lead to an impass where they glare at each other over the new border, the situation would escalate with a major route typically causing the loser to sign a painful peace deal, or it would lead to the functional collapse of a kingdom due to either total losses being too high or too many heads of state dying.

As a few have said many town, cities, nations would wage war at set times each year to steal or disrupt planting, growing or harvesting. Weakening the surrounding areas. Look to the sea raiders who would do seasonal plundering via the various nations Vikings or equivalent.

The power dynamic between the characters outside of Nazarick is very interesting and not always clear since the denizens of this world don't have good communications so they mostly judge by the word of mouth. Like this katana guy boasting that he is equal to Gazef and the stout warrior saying that the Gazef he saw a couple of years ago (probably during the annual war) is about the same level as katana guy now. I recommend you take Gazef as the basis, basically name him a 50. Then Blaine Unglauss would be 48-49, Climb would be around 15, Evileye around 70 and so on. On this scale you have seen a couple of characters briefly that are around 150 and (conditionally) around 200. Ainz-sama is around 500 without the use of his limited items/abilities if he fights blindly and around 2000 if he has sufficient information about the opponent. His consumables boost him to around 5000 without the heavy hitters and over 9000 with those that we have been shown already in the anime. Day 22 of asking you to react to "The tree song", "Never" and "Carry me away" from the anime "Kaiba".

The most common race that players were was humans, so unless they took special classes that increased their lifespan, then they likely wouldn't meet another player before they died of old age. Heteromorphs though, are immortal. You definitely got to watch World Trigger then! The Anime spend a nice balanced amount of time to let you know how and what each characters fights and how their personality is and how well they go together with their team. We also get to see them not inside but also outside of battle interacting. The battles themself are unlike most if not all other Anime which really explains the situation, strategy and how plans never go as planned and how to counter them. Also one of the four MC who is the "main", isn't as OP strong. No he's below weak to be fair, but he got the brains to compensate a little bit given even his brains isn't the very best out there, yet juuust good enough at times. Anyways... this Manga and Anime does a huge nice job investing time into other supporting characters which is very nice! Each team and each character has their own dedicated point/moment to shine. Also, the Anime does a pretty nice job on adapting the Manga. In the first season there was only a one last Arc that was filler, but it was despite the weird odd timing (due to filler), still enjoyable enough.
