I've always believed her "calmness" comes from Angelina knowing this is her passion and purpose in life. She says she never gets nervous. This child has performed for President Obama, Queens & Kings, at the Nobel Peace presentations, etc. She was invited to sign Quincy Jones' Fly Me to the Moon arrangement, by Quincy himself, for his 85th birthday at London's O2 stadium. She has 2 billion views on Facebook and a billion more on KZbin. and she is the 'kid' no one has heard of, yet. Interesting that you say that about Angelina's calmness. Another young amazing singer, though of very different genre, Amira Willighagen, also exudes the same calmness and confidence in her performances and since her first televised performance at age 9, when she won Holland's Got Talent in 2013 singing Nessun Dorma, has also always said that she never gets nervous performing. Some innately and exceptionally talented singers seem to possess this calmness and confidence..

Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old at the time of this performance. This is HER ARRANGEMENT of the 1956 original by Screaming Jay Hawkins whose face was on the candle at the beginning of the video. The notes that you saw the music director looking at were Angelina's notes on how she wanted the band to play Her Arrangement. The band affectionately nicknamed her " The Boss". This young lady ( she just turned 16 on Jan. 10th ) is a true musical prodigy . She is Norwegian and English is her third language ( she speaks Norwegian , Swedish , English , Japanese and Farsi ). She plays Guitar , Piano , Flute and Violin. She won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8 years old. She started singing at the age of 1 1/2 and got introduced to Jazz at age 3 by her her grandmother Mery. She is the youngest ever published author in Norway at the age of 9. The book she wrote about an experience in the Mideast While traveling with her family explains why she always performs barefoot. Her fans (called Angels ) have many names for her - The Barefoot Princess , The Queen of Jazz and The Angel with 1,000 voices. She has a very extensive and diverse catalog ( over 160 covers and 5 originals to date ). Covering many different artists and genres. And as always for anyone new to Angelina, here is a little bio so that you can learn a little more about her background and her kind and caring soul....... *Angelina Jordan* - Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 16 - She began singing at the age of one and a half - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos. - *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help. Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Where does Angelina's deep voice come from? How does she do some of the amazing things we hear from her voice? Note that Angelina has a long neck due to her height (estimated as 6’ give or take an inch) and may have a larger larynx (i.e., voice box) than the average woman. (1) Angelina is probably a contralto with the possibility of singing at a higher level. A contralto is what the lowest female singing voice is called. This vocal range is rare. The range typically falls between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3) or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5). Since Angelina has made so many covers of many types of songs, it may be possible to determine her effective singing range, or the range she is willing to comfortably sing within. This would require analyzing the notes she sang across the spectrum of songs she has sung and published. (2) So where does Angelina's beautiful voice come from? Let us go over how a voice is produced per a summary of tutorials provided by the National Center for Voice and Speech. The NCVS conducts research, educates vocologists, disseminates information about voice and speech, and provides referral services to help people around the world enjoy healthy and effective vocal communications. The NCVS has a nice tutorial on voice production based upon their book "Principles of Voice Production" which goes into scientific detail that they said should include knowledge of basic acoustics and some familiarity of college physics. (3) The human voice is classified into various types, based on pitch, timbre, and various other factors that influence our perception of someone's voice, or how that voice can be used. It appears that one critical aspect of voice production has to do with one's fundamental frequency (i.e., Fo). Baby cries have a Fo of around 500 Hz (roughly corresponding to the note B4). Child speech ranges from 250-400 Hz (notes B3 to G4). Adult females tend to speak at around 200 Hz on average (about G3), and adult males around 125 Hz (or B2). (4) As one would probably assume, one's larynx is quite important to voice production. The larynx is the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords in humans and other mammals. It sits at the back of the throat, above the windpipe (trachea). The larynx is supported by rings of cartilage, which in men (and occasionally a woman) form the bump of the Adam's apple. The vocal cords are stretchy bands of tissue attached to the inside of the larynx. Air passing in and out of the lungs is pushed through these cords. Everyone's larynx grows during puberty, but a girl's larynx doesn't grow as much as a boy's does. In fact, a man's larynx grows roughly 40% larger (taller and in length) than does a woman's larynx. This larger larynx gives men deeper voices than woman. But there is a tad more involved than just the size of one's larynx. (5) Note that the 40% size difference of the larynx between men and women does not account for the roughly 60% difference in production of the Fo. Thus, there must be something else. The key variable is the length of the part of the vocal folds within the larynx that is in vibration, which is called the effective vocal fold length. The difference here between men and women is about 60% and we have some indication of where the pitch difference comes from. (6) Along with pitch, another variable used to classify voices is their quality, or timbre. Timbre is related to the length of the vocal tract. Different vocalists have different vocal tract lengths. To a limited degree singers can control the tract length by raising or lowering the larynx. A longer tract results in a 'darker'-sounding voice, while shorter tracts will make the voice sound 'brighter'. Note that the length of the vocal tract is largely determined by nature. Some of us are born with necks that are swan-like, while others are quite short. (7) So, it appears that Angelina has been gifted with height and both a longer neck and possibly a larger larynx than the average woman. She thus has lower pitch to be able to produce a lower Fo, plus has a longer vocal track to produce a 'darker'-sounding voice. Add to this the fantastic breath control and a wonderful sense of musicality, and one has a singing prodigy. We all are fortunate to be alive to witness such a rare combination that, in my opinion, is producing a new singing genius.

Others gave you her background, so I will just say that this was her arrangement of this song. she arranges all the songs she does. This was an original by Screaming Jay Hawkins from the 50's not Nina Simone. Jay Hawkins original was a theatrical type where he had a bone in his nose like a Witch Doctor, his was a circus like performance. Angelina took it and made it more melodic and jazzy with her arrangement, the cup she held up had a picture of Screaming Jay Hawkins with a bone in his nose from his performance from the 50's. Others have done this song but he is the originator of it. Angelina is the 'Barefoot Princess of Song ' unmatched in her abilities ,she can sing any genre to a master class level and beyond.

There are some really excellent biographies of Angelina, it would be well worth your time to read them and learn a little about her. Sarah original artist is Screamin Jay Hawkins. You see his face on the candle she's holding. Angelina chooses the songs she sings, changes the arrangement to make it her own but stays true and respects the original artist Nina Simone was the original artist of " Feeling Good". She does two outstanding covers of the song when she was 10 years old. She won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8 years old ( started at 7 ). She sang All jazz songs -- 2 by Billie Holiday, one by Nancy Sinatra and winning the competition by singing Ella Fitzgerald's "Summertime" You have just touched the tip of the tip of the iceberg. Here’s how good Angelina is: she blew you away with this song, but it’s a one-off performance. She never sang it like that again. Angelina inhabits whatever genre she chooses to sing: old school blues, jazz, soul, pop, ballads, r&b, and others. She is, without any reservation, the best singer I have ever heard. You’re right that every song she sings she makes her own. Angelina combines incredible musicality with something you don’t know yet-the most beautiful voice you’ve ever heard. Try her cover of Bohemian Rhapsody to see a totally different style and voice that will give you more and bigger goosebumps than you’ve ever had. She writes and arrange her own music. At the age of 9 she’s the youngest person from Norway to have written and published a book about meeting a homeless girl at the age of 6yrs old who had no shoes and she gave the little the shoes right off her feet and gave them to her. 1. AJ began singing at 18 months. Her grandmother was a jazz/blues fan and played that genre of music for AJ. She fell in love with it very early on and has even arranged most if not all that she sings from age 8. What an incredible talent. 2. Now, in this year of 2022 she stands at 6 foot tall and still in her mid teens. She still performs publically barefoot. 3. The backstory of her encounter with the homeless girl she met while she traveled with her family through Iran at age 6 includes the weather damaged bare feet of the child she gave her own shoes to. 4. The reason she performs barefoot is to bring awareness to her public of the children worldwide who can't afford shoes of their own. She has raised millions of dollars for clothing including shoes for those unfortunate children. 💕

well said. I find it very difficult to choose a favorite song or cover by her. But I really do love the "A Million Years Ago" Adele cover. Just to see the chemistry between her and Ivan Mendez the guitarist and you can see it in his face we are witnessing something special. And according to him they just practiced a little while she did all these covers and as she often does, she keeps reading the lyrics while singing and still is able to justify any song with great vocals and emotions, that is what blows me away the most.

She is doing a homage to the great "Screamin' Jay Hawkins" who did this song in 1955, I think. There are some good recordings of SJH's performances, and it is worth listening to one. You can see how she has rearranged the song to make it hers, and yet give marvelous credit to the original. All when she was 9! And she only gets better... Enjoy the trip!!!

Mery spent many hours listening to jazz in Angelina's home even in the womb. At 3 Angelina (AJ) started scrolling YT for jazz singers and fell in love with Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Louis Armstrong, Amy Winehouse, Frank Sinatra and on and on. If you love Nina Simone you will adore AJ. btw, Nina did not do the original of this, it was Screaming Jay Hawkins whose image appears on the candle AJ is holding at the start of the video and it was his version she was emulating only her version is much more structured. By the time she performed this at 9 yrs and 2 mos old she had already won Norway's Got Talent (NGT) at 8 yrs old after 4 stunning performances over the course of 6 months with her opening song of Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday" at age 7. That audition went viral worldwide and garnered 5 million views in the first week. She toured and performed in Europe, Asia and America before she was 9 years old. At 5 years old she wanted to appear on NGT, sing with Alan Walker and perform for Simon Cowell (she called AGT "that Simon show). She has accomplished all 3 of those goals. At first there's the shock, then comes the goosebumps and the giggles as your guts turn inside out, but after a while you just don't care anymore, you just enjoy the ride, kinda knowing subconsciously that at the end she will catch you and put you down safely on a soft bed of beautiful music.
