I always believed this is by far one of the best songs AIC ever recorded, I will never forget the very first time I've ever heard Rotten Apple, I was a young teenager about to finish High School, a buddy of mine would pass me Jar of Flies and I waited anxious until I got home, I put the cd on the player loud and it just blew my mind, now I've got 29 and still amazes me as the first time!!! Edit: Now I have 36 years old, and I am still amazed as the first time, thanks for all the comments!!

I think the best part of a song like this not having a music video is that your mind can interpret it however the song hits you. This song has such a dark yet deep impact. It’s like a man realizing his end and the madness/misery around him. At least that’s how I interpret it. I just discovered AIC last year and man, these guys are the reason I fell in love with grunge and I just keep discovering more hits by them. This one hits deep And I’m an inner city kid from NYC. That’s how powerful and widespread their music is. Bet Layne and AIC never thought their music would reach and speak to so many years later
@Retro_Vertigo
@Retro_Vertigo Жыл бұрын
Really cool interpretation. The song was written by Jerry Cantrell (lead guitarist for newcomers) and is actually about emotional betrayal. The lyrics are incredibly dark in their own respect. Hands down one of the toughest songs to listen to once you have a grasp of its meaning.

He was in actually pretty good condition here compared to later years. I think he was just about to relapse here, I know that he was clean for a majority of '93. He had gained weight, seemed more lively in interviews, played with numerous other bands, and even wore suits on stage because he had gained weight lol. Here, I'm not too sure whether he had already relapsed or not. But I know that he relapsed sometime at the end of '93.

I’ve been on this AIC binge for months now, I get obsessed with every song I listen to and play the hell out of it.. Just started listening to Rotten Apple yesterday now I will listen for the next week. Unreal how many great songs Jerry and Layne wrote, never get sick of them. Listen to the whole facelift and Dirt album’s for two months I’m just moving onto jar of flys. This song going to be played all week. Any recommendations my fellow AIC fans for other great songs by Layne? I heard Sap and his songs from Mad Season. I just can’t get sick of there music off the charts addicting to listen to. No other band has ever captivated me. RIP Layne. Miss you so much buddy, I never met you. Wish you could’ve kicked heroine and made so many more epic songs. I understand Jerry keeping the band going with William Duval. Duval will never fill Laynes shoes. Don’t get me wrong, he great, but Layne is a legend a pioneer in his own right. This song is like none other...i just wish technology had been advanced enough to give us some really great video and audio from back then...wasn't that long ago, but I ache inside every time I see a great, but fuzzy, AIC video! :-(

This is breathtaking. I'm pretty sure Layne was clean from the needle here or had just relapsed. Not too sure.

The MTV unplugged show is one of my all-time absolute favourite live performances ever, but it's simply beyond me how this song was not included as part of that very setlist. Anyway, I absolutely love this song even though it'll never stop give me that haunting feeling. This was indeed back when you needed talent to become famous.

What I think is amazing is that they were almost done. By the end of the Australian leg of the tour Layne was cooked and Sean had walked off stage. They still had it here . AIC the darkest and baddest band of the 90’s. All hail Layne

Hekate Antania Nah I know plenty of insane drug addicts. Marijuana is okay and I know a good plenty of nice sane people who just smoke weed. I've never met a happy Hard Drug user even limited they are still lethal to the mind. I lived with a guy who'd tried about every drug you could think of and he was a really strange cruel person. I'm not saying they should be outlawed because I believe in freedom. But I certainly think most drugs are absolutely negative without any lasting positives.

Their a tool of Satan.....kill one off before they believe the gospel of the grace of God and become saved. Or take a saved person and make them ineffective in serving the body of Christ..

That was better than I expected considering he's working without the studio over-dubs. I would think this is a very difficult song to pull off live without 2-3 backup singers, but it's full enough. Pretty sure I've seen the full Jar of Flies concert on youtube at one point and hopefully it resurfaces.
