I met Pacino, I was 15 years old in 1983, I met him very briefly outside the theatre in NYC, he was performing in "American Buffalo" onstage that night. He was actually very nice, signed an autograph for me. I told him about the movies I saw with him I really liked like The Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon. He smiled, shook my hand, very cool guy.

@oisaveloy It was so long ago, but it is a very happy memory. It was around the time Scarface was out in theaters. Pacino was great in the play. All the actors were. Like I wrote earlier, he really was very nice. Smiled and talked to people, signed autographs, and shook people's hands. Cool guy.

Al Pacino's transition during the Godfather was stunning. You need to bear in mind that at Connie's wedding, he appeared as an 'innocent' and an outsider to the family business, but he was already a Marine Corp officer and WWII combat veteran. So Mike had some steel in his character already, along with his Ivy League education, Corleone DNA and upbringing. You see the Marine officer come out when he tells the nurse to help him wheel his father's bed out of the hospital room, and the combat veteran when he confronts Captain McCluskey on the front steps. The transformation didn't start when McCluskey broke his jaw, or when he shot Sollozzo and McCluskey in the restaurant. It started December 7th 1941, when Mike decided to volunteer for the military.

Yeah, that's how we age sometimes. Look at the singers who were big in the 1950's get up there on stage and talk their way through most of their songs. It's because they're in their 80's and their voices are worn out and old. In Al Pacino's case, look at all the yelling and maniacal roles he had throughout his 50+ years of acting. LOL, I'm surprised he even has a voice left!! And he smoked a lot. He's still a favorite though! ;o)

One of my all time favorite actors… such a class act that’s given us so many great films over the years.. my personal favorites since I’m a 90s baby.. Godfather, Heat, Scarface, Carlitos Way… such a talented, brilliant actor. Hate to see legends get old but it’s apart of life.. just thankful for everything that he’s given us throughout his legendary career.

The strength of this interview is that the interviewer does not compete with Al Pacino for attention. He is allowed to speak, reflect, and not get interrupted, which allows him to share his thoughts and experiences in a way that is revealing without the constant prodding of an outsider. We see and hear Al Pacino, as we might had we sat down to dinner and a drink with him. Something we'll never have the honor and privilege of doing, but this certainly gets us close. This setting and format were the perfect vehicles for an actor of Al Pacino's caliber to just relax and talk and to share things about his career, friendships, roles, good fortune, childhood and acting choices that so many of us wanted to hear. He was as good at this, as he has always been in his acting profession.
