Since you can have 4 tunes with Ecu tech ,you should consider a electric boost controller and have a tune for different amount of boost levels like 300whp ,350whp ,400whp and 450whp 😁

Yeah it’s possible!! I’ll probably do like a conservative low Boost Road Racing tune, and on the street I can turn it up a bit

@@phelpsgarage4202 agree. That’s a good Ar. Turbine size. When do you suspect to be at full boost by? Is this the same turbo spec that Austin k24 and Chris both blew their motors on ??
@phelpsgarage4202
@phelpsgarage4202 3 күн бұрын
@@BulliKid Austin had a G30-770 I believe. Chris and I have the same size turbo. Both of them were around 18 psi I believe. I’m starting at 7 😂 my goal is to get 100 ish wheel horsepower and then go from there.
@BulliKid
@BulliKid 3 күн бұрын
@@phelpsgarage4202 you will thank yourself later. Best to start slow and add to the boost. You learn a lot as you progress. So would k24 Austin also be a .83 At turbine? The reason I’m asking is because that’s a pretty decent size AR to give you a nice boost ramp curve. It’s usually the smaller AR spec turbos that end up blowing motors faster. So with theirs blowing up, I’m curious, would it be better to even get a bigger AR?
@phelpsgarage4202
@phelpsgarage4202 3 күн бұрын
@@BulliKid I’m not sure of the specific on his setup. My car is set up for Road Racing, so the tune is going to be extremely conservative and I’m keeping the boost low so we don’t have extremely high cylinder pressures/ torque down low.

Does the new turbo header have more clearance from the oil sump compared to the other header you had? My brother has a 2013 FRS, and we talk about the oiling issues, and I told him what advice I've given to several individuals on that matter; including 009 who I think is now working with Veyrus on a sump solution/oil control. My brother told me Veyrus have a Stage 1 sump design that is going to be tested and I told him that is actually a prototype. If it works well and has no bugs they won't need a Stage 2, unless they separate NA from Boosted applications. Supposedly they have addressed the oil control for left, right, accelerate, deceleration and elevation changes. I'm a retired engineer and an enthusiast since I was 7 years old and still interested at 73. Turbo install is going well it appears and best with it.

Think it would be worthwhile to get a couple studs of appropriate thread, and put them in the block, to help line up the pan on the way in, before the RTV touches? Then put some bolts in, pull the studs out, and put the bolts there? I'm gonna have to pull my pan eventually, and just trying to think of ways to make it harder to mess up. 😅

Thanks for doing and documenting all of this. I track my 86 all the time, up to HPDE 3 now, hopefully 4 next year. I’m debating going down this road or just buying a C7 GS. C7 won’t need much, but I’m not sure I’ll like the weight and the 86 consumables are way less. If I keep the 86, it will be built almost exactly like yours. If you don’t mind, can you go over costs as well?

I was in the same boat, but as I continue to develop and spend money, I’m just gonna stay with this platform. It’s feels great to keep up with cars that are way out of its league, but sometimes it’s easy to just buy a car keep it stock and just have fun with it. I love the C6Z! I did a video of the cost to build a track GR last year. I can do another one once I’m done with the version 2 of the car.

I'm in the same boat. I'm stuck between a gr86, a c7 or an fl5 type r. I haven't actually driven any of them but cost of entry for the gr with brembos is very tempting and you could build a pretty stout gr for the price of just getting into a stock c7 gs or fl5.
@jrfish007
@jrfish007 4 күн бұрын
@@indecisivegearhead depends what you want to do with it. I know the FL5 is really good on the track, but people I talk to are jealous of my 86 even though they are faster. C7 GS is a different league though. Also, on the track, running cost are so different. The 86 will go 2-3 weekends on my $1k tires where as a C7 GS will go 1 weekend on $3k tires. Also, I live in mountains, people talk about the tail of the dragon, that’s every back road by me. So big power is less useful for the Sunday drive

If the manifold flange is that tight to the nuts, isn’t it more likely to shear off the stud since there’s no room for thermal expansion?
