First off a big thank you to @uncoveringcities for being nice enough to help me find some local Shanghai street food! I couldn’t have made this video possible without her help.
Secondly, Thank you to @yiran_ding for getting these epic drone shots for me!
We started the day off in an intersection that was absolutely full of street foods! We started with guotie freshly fried up in massive batches! They were some of the juiciest guoties I have tried as they quenched my thirst.
Then just a few steps over and we got to indulge in some of my favorite street foods for breakfast. The youtiao and sweetened doujian is a combination I cannot get enough of. I also had to try the cifangao, which I like to think of as a hash brown made with glutinous rice! If all this wasn’t sweet enough I had their fried up sesame seed ball stuffed with black sesame seed sugar and it was absolutely fantastic.
Last place we went before moving on was for a Shanghai staple, the vegetable baozi. Fresh, light, airy bun with flavor packed veggies, tofu, and mushroom.
Next was a first for me, the niangao tuan with is a massive rice dumpling stuffed with an assortment of goodies ranging from sweet to savory and we all know I went all in with the add ins! A great back and forth with each bite from savory to sweet. I couldn’t stop eating this!
Last place was for the legendary 葱油饼 fried scallion bread. I got mine topped with an egg and then took it to the next level with my own chili oil! So oily, crunchy, and decedent!
Of course I had something sweet to round out this street food packed day!
Thank you Shanghai for the yummy street food!
