I’ve always said that mothering babies and toddlers is physically exhausting, but mothering pre-teens and teenagers is mentally exhausting! It gets better mama! My oldest is almost 18 and our “friendship” is starting to develop. Hugs! ❤️

This was our 6th year of homeschooling and by far the hardest. All we've heard from others is how it must not be affecting us since we already homeschooled, but it's been a nightmare. On top of the craziness going on and the quarantine we lost my mother-in-law very suddenly, my husband's uncle that we had been caring for, my sister passed from cancer, and now my aunt has had hospice called in. Honestly, we didn't even finish our curriculum, we just quit because emotionally and mentally I'm exhausted. I withdrawl when I'm struggling, so we're just doing some funschooling journals and reading together because honestly anything more feels like trying to climb Everest. Thank you for your honesty and encouragement! You and the ladies that comment help me feel like we aren't so alone right now.

Thank you so much for being so candid. All I can say is, “Me Too!” 🙋🏼‍♀️. We are in WA, so we are really feeling every bit of this and churches aren’t even open yet. The air just feels so heavy. I’m on my own with my three children, and it often feels hard to be the tide who has to raise the whole harbor (emotionally).

We tried 2 different homeschool groups and I just found myself dreading going so we stopped them and I feel a lot better not being in a group. We still meet with friends who homeschool so that just seems to work a lot better for us.

Yes the emotional part of parenting is just as exhausting as the physical parts of youngers. I have ages 16-baby and I think it's the hardest it'll ever be . I appreciate your honesty..it's refreshing to know I'm not alone

My third grader’s first assigned book this year is My Father’s dragon and I had no idea it was a series! I cannot wait to order the others now. Thanks for that info. We can definitely relate. The quarantine affected our productivity and attitudes. We were exhausted by the time we finished the year and I felt like I hadn’t given it my all. But there is so much grace! And I agree that God ordained your family order for a reason. He is with you in all the hard of parenting your older two and He will take care of your younger ones. I ordered 24 family ways and I’m excited to use it. So glad you’ve finished the year and can take a break! Praying rest and refreshment for your family.

Ty for sharing, for your honesty and being so transparent! I appreciate it! This year towards the end it was so hard for me. I think it was the whole epidemic situation but still. I’m changing things a bit this year to include more breaks in between. But like you said is a reminder to think about why we are doing this

Yes, I love hearing updates on how the homeschooling year went! Its very helpful and encouraging!! I know this year seems to ha e been a tough one for a lot of the world. Love your advice about changing how we think the curriculum should work for us. I have struggled with that in the past myself; so I know that will help a lot of mamas out! Ps you don't ramble at all and I love having our little chats about life and homeschool even if its not face to face. This has best our best homeschool year ever even with the whole covid-19 issue. After 7 years of homeschooling I feel like I finally found a grove and homeschool life style that works for the whole family. She I'm very type A and the boys are very much the opposite of that so it has taken a lot of years to find the happy sweet spot in learning and educating in our family. I have seen more growth, Independence and since responsibility coming our in them now that we found our "right way" to learn. Thanks so much for sharing your homeschooling/life journey with us its been so encouraging and helpful to have someone who keep it simple in my life! Congrats on all the hard work mama and kids!! High fives all around. Love and hugs to you and your family!

I am so very blessed by your vlog today. I also am a home school mom of four and your openness about teenage struggles spoke to my heart. My eldest two I have really struggled with trying to keep the day moving and constant struggles and tears. I also had the guilt of my two youngest constantly dealing with interruptions. My eldest is now 20 and is serving our country as a female in the Marine corp and my eldest son is high functioning on the Autism spectrum and despite all of the obstacles he is starting college this fall. All this to say pray, pray and pray. I was battling two amazing souls who were ready to grow but to this day I get a lot of calls and texts about laundry, cooking, and love yous.

Oh how I feel so much of what you describe with your older children and added extra stress! We have been wading through these same things for two years now. God encourages my heart by reminding me of the way that all of these years, whether easy or difficult, add up to one big picture. I get lost in the momentary struggles so often but after tears and prayers we reset our sights and try to start afresh. I’m learning to be ok without having everything be ok.

We’ve had a hard time where we’re living at in GA right now trying to find good wholesome people to be around, so I’ve been praying fervently that when we move to PA soon, we’ll find good people for our kids to be around.... AND ME! Moving every 3 years can make things so difficult 😭.

It’s hard I know seeing his younger brother doing the same math as him but I continue to encourage him. That’s a good idea to have them do it together. That I will have to think about. I seriously thought about putting my teen in PS all because of Math. But God gave us this path to take and we can not deviate from him. We left our homeschool group of 4 years in January. We felt a huge weight lifted off of us. It was toxic and stressful. Then magically 10 families started meeting at my home every Monday opps😆 We are going to invest in Botnany I love the books that they have attached to it now. It looks amazing!

Hi! Wow, I loved this update. I will have to check out the family devotional book. I’ve enjoyed your channel again during the pandemic because it really does help me feel connected to likeminded Moms. I feel like a deer in the headlights right now and I have to decide what I’m doing by tomorrow for my girls school (ages 7 and 9). It seems like my decision making abilities are at an all time low! I do feel that one challenging aspect I found in the past with homeschooling was prioritizing my essential needs.

Hang in there Ashley. This is a tough phase for moms and kids especially when they are together 24/7 but it will be worth it. My older daughters and I are very good friends but there were definitely some bumps throughout those years. My older son as well. 2 still to go thru it and one there now. I learned as well after switching math several times thru the Algebra and Pre algebra years that they just needed me there to teach them. Some more than others but the struggle is real. We just have a homeschool fellowship group which we started to make sure our kids were getting kid social time but there are no restrictions or demands about attendance or anything. We take turns planning activities if we want or we just get together to play and hangout. Life is crazy right now but just keep your eyes on HIM and he will establish your path. God bless you. 🙏💕

We learn year-around and just came off of our 3-week break. So the new learning year has started. We are starting off slow, with just 3 subjects a day and lots of outside time (before the Southern heat really kicks in, LOL!). I'd say March was the hardest because that's when our homeschool group had to cancel events until July, including monthly birthday parties. Those are always fun because it includes many kids in one place versus attending so many parties. It was scary as well with the quarantines, but after a few weeks it wasn't so bad. We only took a few days off so I could complete my finals for school, other than that we just kept it as usual minus the get togethers. My mom travels and splits her time, so (if it's okay to travel) she'll be leaving in Sept, I think she's had the hardest time because she spends a few months here and a few months there with my brother. But the kids and her have been loving spending all of this time together.

This is totally random, but you used the word “conversate” a few times and I wasn’t familiar with that version of converse/conversation. I think it’ll be great that they’ll both be on the same math level. I know you have your next year plan done but if you were still open, you might take a look at Mr.D Math. After such a struggle with math, my daughter started Mr. D. pre-Algebra (self paced), and I have not had one day of involvement since- she just finished Geometry. There have been a couple of times she didn’t understand something, sent him a quick email, he got right back to her and she was on her way. It keeps everything calculated, and I have the last three years of the grades from the math year printed out. Without being too dramatic, it really changed our lives. 😀

Do your kids go shopping and pick out something new for back to school? I take my kids usually and let them pick out a few new things at the beginning of the school year every year. Like a new binder f they need one or special pens or pencils or a pack of stickers . Just a little way to let them have something that gets them excited about getting going again. And our library is still doing curbside pickup so I made a prize box to do our own reading program that we can use during the school year also. They like to participate in the library reading program but as they get older the prizes aren't as fun. So we add prizes we know they enjoy.

They are ages 14 & 13 and will both be doing 9th grade this year. Don't ask about their math :( Now a fun question...how do you make your cold brew?

A book we really enjoyed recently was Escape from Mr. Lemoncellos Library. Very light hearted and fun.

Thank you for being so real! My kids are 6 and 8 years old. These past few months have been very hard on everyone. I feel like I am constantly coaching them. We are starting our home school journey this year and I have really enjoyed your videos.

I've been watching a ton of your videos and it's been so helpful! I'm so excited for the things I'm learning from you! I have started the good and the beautiful now yesterday and well see how this goes. My kids decided to homeschool when this covid online school year was over. I only have one recommendation for you, watch your "ums". You say um a lot. It's distracting, other then that, you're a great you tuber!

Sending hugs. Also I’m going to have to check out that bible devotional. Is it good for younger kids? I have a 5 & 7 year old. I really hope things get better.

I know this ws months ago and honestly I'm really feeling this now. I feel like we were shielded for the most part from the covid craziness. I'm just feeling so beyond incredibly stressed and I just can't even with life any more with this life we are all living now. Taking a break from school isn't an option it's what makes the chaos feel less scary and hard. I'm just tired and scared because of life and the world. Leaving the house isn't even an option because masks are required everywhere and they give me migraines. I hate this world.

I know exactly what you mean about teens and preteens. They are exhausting. My two still at home are fourteen and twelve. :)

The last few weeks have been a struggle for me as well - and if I'm reading between the lines - it's for the same reason. I'll pray for your family, and you can pray for mine. Deal?

For the 24 Family Ways, do you think kids should be at least kindergarten/school age? I have a toddler and soon to be newborn, it sounds like it might be over our heads currently?

Ashley, I'd like to make a request. I bought your 30 days meal plan to lose weight. I was wondering if you could do a series of preparing/ cooking those Lunch & dinner, & sample items to buy. I need help. If it's possible. Thanks.

I love the idea of Our 24 Family Ways but right now I have my 12yo stepdaughter, and a 2 and 4 year old. Doing these devotionals just felt like "interrogate and lecture" for us. I'm still on the hunt for a devotional that feels gentle and relevant, especially since her mom raised her without God.

Going forward, maybe look into Nicole the Math Lady or Mr. D for Kylee's math. It might be a middle of the road option for you- it is similar to Teaching Textbooks in that it can be more hands-off, but for both of them, it is a PERSON teaching. Might make the difference! Good luck!
