We're also doing a 5-day week, with the 5th day including our morning basket (something new for us this year) but then field trips, nature walks, bigger projects than can fit in a normal school day, etc. We also have a "flow" rather than timed schedule--- I think it helps so much because then you don't feel behind all of the time, and still get everything done.

Do you incentivize your kids to do chores? Pay an allowance at all? My kids are much younger. My oldest is the same age as your youngest, but I struggle with getting them to do things just because I tell them to do it...is that an age thing and it will get better with time? 😂 Even starting school at 9. I can say we will do that, but it takes major muscle movement by me and not a lot of work on their part. I want to make sure I’m cultivating responsibility and self-motivation in my home. Any advice?

OK, I've found your channel and am watching your reviews with gratitude and appreciation. I did homeschooling last year out of necessity when Nevada schools shut down and the distance learning was not a good option. I fumbled my way through that while also being distracted with a divorce and other craziness. This year I'm continuing homeschooling but really hope to find a little more help with scheduling and structure. I've been considering The good and the beautiful for that reason. But I have to ask, how much time are you schooling each day with this system? I have 3 kids, My oldest may go back into a local charter school that uses online K-12 curriculum and supplements with tutoring and socializing. I see this as good for her but more work for me so I'm hesitant. My two younger boys want homeschool but I have to constantly be on them to actually do it. Additionally I work full time 12 hrs a night on graves. So the schooling I do leaves me getting about 3 hrs of sleep during the day when kids, dogs, and suns up. Please tell me that this program will help. I wish I could talk to you and get a little more insight but seeing your videos is giving me hope. Thanks.

I requested to follow on IG, of that's alright. I'd love to see a screen shot of your kids chore lists. I am kind of a control freak when it comes to housework so I've never given my kids chores. They are 8 and almost 11 and I'm SOOO regretting that! I just like to see what other mama's have their kids do to get an idea for mine. I definitely know to take into account their capabilities. This is my 2nd year homeschooling my daughter (10 yrs old) and this will be my first full year distance learning/homeschooling my son (8 yrs old). I'm really trying to get myself organized and set up for a good year because homeschooling 2 kids is new to me! Thank you so much for this video ~ it helped a lot!

Is your oldest doing every subject every day, or switching up electives or non-core subjects on different days? My oldest is grade 9 this year, and in still working out for to schedule her without it being too burdensome. On her more "un motivated" days getting anything other than core subjects done can be a real challenge. I'm still working out our school schedule with grades 9 7 6 and 5, but we are very excited to get going again in August! I'm so thankful that our homeschool is not one of those big question marks so many others are finding themselves dealing with in these uncertain days.. My heart goes out to them!

What does bedtime look like for your kids? Do you spend time with each kid tucking them, reading stories, in or do they just go to bed on their own? Mine are 5 and 9 and we read stories and my husband sits next to them and sings and touches their back for a few minutes. I’m curious what other families do at bedtime and how they handle it. Especially with your older ones.

I'm over here binge watching your last 5-6 videos as we were out of town for the last 2 weeks! I never miss one! I especially love homeschool chats. I SO desperately need to take a day or 2 to plan my year out in my planner. This is my 1st year using a planner. Thanks for the advice to use a pencil. When you go by the idea of "do the next thing the next day" do you find you do not finish books by the end of the year? I tend to do this as well but I also count out like page numbers to see roughly how many pgs per day we need to accomplish in order to finish in a years time. I hate not finishing a book unless it's a book that's meant to be done in a few yrs time or easily broken into more than a years time. But things like ETC, TT, HW I want to make sure we finish those in a years time. Am I right that they do those larger chores in the am before school?
@GraceandGrit4 жыл бұрын
Yes they do them before school, and we do finish all of our stuff in a years time. Books like ww I have them do more pages then just 1 or 2 so we usually finish those early!
@jennasosa77404 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing Ashlee!! So inspired & encouraged by your videos all the time. I have to ask...how do you fit so much between 9am & lunch???! Do you usually have a timer that you set for your history or read aloud times to keep those activities from eating up too much time or taking away from other subjects? How do you pace your read alouds? My oldest kids are still little (2nd grade & 1st grade this year) so it feels like a major struggle to keep a steady routine with my 3yr old and 2yr old in the mix 😅... I always find our lit-based science or history (take about 30-40 min each. We don't do both on the same day) literally take our entire morning when I add in our Bible lesson and all the natural need-addressing/caring-for-the-littles. 😅🤪 Maybe it's just my phase right now...
