The Old Testament is filled with prophecies about the New Covenant - but what are those promises? In this episode, Tom and Sam walk us through some of what Jesus accomplished the first time He came to earth, what we have to look forward to when He returns, and what GOD gets out of the New Covenant.

Anyone in secular society who says that the Old Testament has nothing to do with the New Testament has never truly read the word. I am amazed at how the Lord keeps pointing me into a new Biblical learning each day, and getting to know Him.

The last few comments reminded me of the line in The Chosen where Mary talks to Jesus and feels unworthy to even ask for forgiveness and the writers have Jesus say, "I don't require much." In comparison to our blessings and benefits, how true this is! Thank you for your thoughts and videos. God bless you and yours.

Great discussion on how the covenant God has made with us runs through both the OT and the NT. You talk about how what God wants from us in this covenant is relationship. I find that beautiful and very personal as it means God knows each of us individually. I've heard all my life that God doesn't need us, but He wants relationship with us but I think in my mind that relationship meant that the chief reason for this relationship is that I would glorify Him. Glorifying Him is true of course, but one of the things your discussion of The Chosen has shown me, is that the depth of relationship He wants is a deep communion that is an intense friendship. I'm having trouble finding words to use that convey how much deeper than relationship is than I ever understood. And it's filled with love and laughter and praise and joy and sadness and tears and total honesty mixed with undeterred commitment to allow Him to work out in my life what He wants to accomplish. Thanks for all you do, you two!

I’m Catholic and Reading through the Bible in a Year with a Fr. Mike Schmitz and we read Jeremiah 31, today and this is the night that you interviewed Dallas and this popped up after. You just reiterated what I learned and I love how deeply Jewish the roots of Christianity are. People who dismiss the Old Testament are missing so much of the Bible and that Jesus was a devoted Jew. Keep these podcasts coming. I love your comments about The Chosen episodes and I have learned so much about how well the show presents the Jewish Culture. Thanks so much. Shalom in Y'shua, Sam and Tom! At 19:23, you mentioned the yet-to-come consummation of the Bride's relationship to Christ. There is a hymn "The Church's One Foundation" with a line "waits the consummation of peace forevermore" in reference to the future and final union with Christ at the marriage banquet of the Lamb.

Yah wants more than a relationship - He wants us to be holy! Holiness means being set apart. By receiving the Holy Spirit (as you mention per the New Covenant), the Holy Spirit enables us to live in His Ways (Torah) and be set apart from the world. The Holy Spirit will never lead us to violate Torah.

Loved this video! I've been thinking a lot about understanding the New Covenant (and the Old Covenant) as a marriage covenant and would love to hear your thoughts more on it. You touched on it briefly at the end but I wondered if you had any more knowledge of Ancient Israelite marriage rituals and if that can help our interpretations of these new covenant passages in the OT that talk about the new covenenant as a marriage with the main passages in Hosea 2, Ezekiel 16 and Jeremiah 31 where in vs 32 God calls himself the husband of Israel. Also the language in all these passages talk about "knowing the Lord" with that word "yada" being used which is interesting because it is sometimes used to talk about intimate relations between husband and wife, which reframes how we understand "knowing" God. And form what I've seen it seems that the phrase "I will be their God and they will be my people" as kind of marriage vow that would be said at a marriage ceremony like "I will be your husband and you will be my wife." Add to this the idea of the "two becoming one flesh" in marriage and you get an amazing picture of "theosis," participating in the divine nature from 2 Peter 1:4, that we join in the perfect relationship of the Triune God, not sharing Divine biology but becoming one with them as a husband and a wife do. We don't need marriage in the new creation for we (the people of God) are married to Yeshua, the mystery that is better than the shadow we have now from Ephesians 5:32. Would love to talk more about it if it's something that interests you, thinking about doing my Master's thesis on it to finish my degree.

Hi! I have a question for you guys. I am a Christian. I am also the director of a Christian homeschool group that is open to anyone but up to this point we have had only Christian members. This year I have one family join that is Orthodox Jewish. I have had very few interactions with Jewish people in general and no interactions, save recently, with someone who is Orthodox. I am an educator and will not be in class actively trying to convert anyone. But I also want to be sensitive to them and make them feel welcome, loved and will be praying that they come to the full knowledge of Jesus. I am seeking any advice you guys may have for me.

I apologize if my questions are silly, but I’m new to understanding the Bible. What is the difference between Israel and the tribe of Judah, besides geography? Do Gentiles fall under one or both of them or neither? Last question is, if I was baptized at age nine, am I saved? I ask bc baptism is about being born in the Spirit and have forgiveness of our sins, correct? I just don’t know that I understood all of that at age nine….should I be baptized again? I appreciate the time you both take to teach and create these videos bc it’s a great way for me to study the Bible and learn God’s Word☺️

If Jews are from/of the Tribe of Judah, which tribes are we the Gentiles from; is that disclosed anywhere in scripture?
@Grafted
@Grafted 3 жыл бұрын
Because of the centrality of Jerusalem and the Temple which was located in the territory of the tribe of Judah, the children of Jacob/Israel, over time, began to be referred to as the Jewish people. Yehudi (Jew) and Yehudah (Judah) are very close semantically. Although originally referring only to the tribe of Judah, the semantic range of reference grew over time and by the end of the Old Testament period, the book of Esther refers to Mordecai as a Benjamite and a Jew even though he was not from the tribe of Judah, and Haman was intent on "killing the Jews" throughout the Persian empire which meant anyone from the family of Israel. The New Testament similarly refers to the totality of Israel as the Jewish people throughout and Paul, a Benjamite, refers to himself as Jewish along with all of Israel. Jesus even tells the Samaritan woman at the well that "salvation comes from the Jews" (John 4:22). So, definitely by the writing of the New Testament, but really before, the Jewish people is a reference to the family of Jacob/Israel or the Hebrews or the Israelites. The primary use of the word Gentile in Scripture is a reference to people from among the nations other than Israel. Although many of the nations in the Holy Scriptures are pagan, Gentile is not predominantly a word meaning pagan. The LORD is intent on having a remnant of people as a part of His family from every tribe, tongue, people, and nation (Revelation 5:9; 7:9). You can also view our video about the grafting in of the nations to the olive tree of Israel here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXStimdvg7lpq7c

I dare say that most atheists know God better than Christians. That’s why they avoid that yolk of slavery at all costs. They know God would never torment His creation for sins or threaten people with punishment in order to boss them around. They actually believe He is merciful to our unrighteousness & our sins He remembers no more.
