On Today's Episode:
If you’ve noticed the price of eggs recently you may have realized the pain of the recession we’re currently experiencing. Making money during a recession is not only possible, it’s often said to be the time when millionaires are made.
Graham Stephan, host of Iced Coffee Hour, successful KZbinr with over 500 million views started his journey to financial success at 18 years old at the start of the 2008 financial crisis. Years later, over 30 and more than $120 million in real estate sales later, he’s one of the biggest millennial influencers sharing his wins, failures, and experiences for everyone to learn.
In this episode Graham talks about spotting opportunities, doubling down on where you put your efforts, his approach to investing, and how he beat the market with a monkey picking investment stocks. Before you think he had a lucky break into real estate, Graham breaks down how much free work he did to learn real estate, make money, and gain mastery.
Struggling to see opportunities when everyday feels like doomsday is normal. On this channel we find ways to struggle well, build skills, and put those skills to work and build your success brick by brick.
QUOTES:
“I just look at the data and that makes me feel safer.”
“I would work with him for free. I would do anything he wanted for free, and I just wanted to learn and any business that I brought in we would split 50/50.”
“If I’m going to be able to get the information, the contacts from somebody that’s already doing it well, all day I’d work for free!” Tom Bilyeu
“Whatever I’m spending, 10% a year I could be getting forever.”
“If all you know is failure, why would you trust the process of thinking any different?”
“The way you feel about money is highly uncorrelated to how much money you have in the bank.” Ramit Sethi
“Saving money is important, but spending money is also important, [...] if you don’t learn how to spend on things that are meaningful to you, then you can accumulate a lot of money over time, but you won’t actually know how to use it.” Ramit Sethi

The problem is that I've been holding a lot of stocks in the hope of selling them for a profit this month, but I'm not sure if to keep holding or sell because I've been operating at a loss since Q2 and 2023 is really not looking good for investors. Typically during this time of the year, we get to see certain stocks go up in the market, but that's very unlikely this season due to the recession and overall economic crisis.

We’ll be seeing the market plummet further, so I advise you do critical analysis on these companies you’re holding and their data projections in the next fews years. This recession is most likely the result of an external factor. For the first time in decades, the United States is losing its clout as a federal reserve currency. They don't have any more economies to use to control inflation, and less money is being spent on stock and oil trading than in the past. They all lend support to the idea that a new multilateral world order is in the works.

Today's inflation is a result of corporate avarice, not only problems with the supply chain. We know that the money obtained by the higher prices isn't being transmitted along the supply chain since businesses are reporting record profits. More pricing result in increased revenue for businesses, which stays with them and goes into their pockets. We can rule out supply-related inflation because of this. If your stocks are extremely weak, now is an excellent opportunity to take a battered 401k and convert it to a Roth. Then, your Roth will be tax-free, and you will just have to pay taxes on the substantially reduced current values.

Imo, there's a lot more to it then just inflation from corporate exuberance, government spending, raising the debt ceiling and quantitative easing printing trillions into the economy during the pandemic over the last couple of years also plays a role. It's a dynamic process that ripples from corporate bail outs, cost to the supply chain, monetary tightening, funding gender studies over seas, raising FED rates, and shortage in labor as well. For all we know, those companies who were growing like crazy most likely took on cheap debt to grow and do buy backs. Growth tends to be more volatile because of that reason and why some investors will tend to invest in strong companies with a good balance sheet and cashflow. From a tax play, depending where that person is in their lifetime, if they need the tax deductions, using a traditional retirement, it may be best to keep it as a tool for that. I'd run the numbers before pulling any trigger, what's the marginal capital gain/loss of your traditional retirement into a roth.

So I watched about 30 minutes of this, and all I got out of it was, get a high paying job, work it 12 hours a day, live below your means, and plow at least 1/3 of everything you make into a diversified stock market fund and leave it there for 20 years. Wow, who would have thought it would be so easy as to just work my ass off for 20 years and not spend money on myself or family, but rather support big faceless corporations through buying stocks and somehow magically I will become rich in the next 11 months?!? This advice is "ok" for any single 18 years olds who want to be wealthy by age 40. But the advice is not as great for 50 year old guys who have multiple kids, a mortgage, car payments, and a wife who doesn't want to become a "work widow" until 5 years past age 65. I didn't learn anything I didn't already know from this video.

One of the biggest takeaways I think we can gain from this is, a very simple one: Do whatever you're actually interested in doing, regardless of naysayers, and do it consistently and with determination. If you're interested in actually waking up in the morning and checking the market, if that's fun for you, then do it! You're not going to time the bottom, but hey, maybe in hindsight you'll be able to look back and remember that one morning when you woke up and got the absolute best ideal of your entire life. Some will find that fun, while maybe others will feel like it's an emotional shitshow. Can't take the stress? There's plenty of automated ways to DCA into bonds, stocks, crypto, a REIT, or whatever. You might feel your paycheck get 5-10% smaller, but hopefully you can manage to just tighten your belt and get on with life. TLDR, do what makes you happy, don't worry about the hottest get-rich-quick scheme.

@@marcinl2996 I would agree, but with the caveat we learned from this video: If you've sought out an expert in your field, specifically because you want to succeed at what THEY are doing, and if THAT person tells you you're doing it wrong, you shut up and listen LOL.

FYI I was switching phones and found it difficult to find the video because on the Khan video I could only see your logo (I see the Impact Theory in the left hand corner for this video) and I couldn't tell it was IT and I didn't know your name or the interviewees name. So I had to stop the video and look at the title and then type in almost the whole title to find the video again. It would be helpful to have the interviewees name on the thumbnail and on the screen too. I do like your content.

Have some insight to share regarding that portion of interview regarding greed. I feel with crypto market you easily get stuck playing numbers game rather then realising it is actually money. You see the profits but those profits feel like you are always starting from ground level (if that makes sense). So any loss you treat like a loss not accounting for profits you've made. Maybe its just my feeling and experience. Keep track of the actuall money you've put in and how much you've made :) Don't get sucked in trying to make up for loses which are not acutal loses.

The crazy thing is people think that the coming recession is going to be like the ones we've seen before where we bounce back after a year or two and that's unlikely. Many first and second world country economies are on the verge of imploding because for the first time in history there aren't enough people being born to replace the people who are retiring (an aging population) meaning there won't be enough consumers or workers to drive the economy. It's already been estimated that the Chinese economy will collapse within the next ten years because they do not have a replacement generation so to speak because of the one child policy.

The key to big returns is not big moving stocks. it's managing risk in relationship to reward. Having the correct size on and turning your edge as many times as necessary to reach your goal. The holds true from long term investing to day trading.

Even with the right technique and assets investrs would still make more than others, as an investr, you should've known that by now, nothing beats experience and that's final, personally i had to reach out to a market analyst for guidance which is how i was able to grow my account close to a million, withdraw my profit right before the correction and now I'm buying again.
