Even at almost 70 years old, Ron still has the youthful glee and energy of a young Opie Taylor and a teen-age Richie Cunningham. He's such a great director and movie producer as well. I have the greatest respect for what he has done in Hollywood.

You know having been in addiction for around 30 years I can identify with Clint. I cleaned up many years ago. My biggest regrets getting on the dope. Time wasted, money wasted, and people I hurt through my addiction. Thing I'm proudest of is getting sober and having my family in my life. Plain and simple.

@T Raybern Has nothing to do with it. Concern/love doesn’t cost a dime. Wasted, unsuccessful stints at rehab do, which is why nobody should go into it until THEY are ready/want to. I don’t think “forcible sobriety” ever takes, if the subject isn’t truly ready to give that stuff up. Going to rehab to impress/appease others will almost always fail. It’s putting on a show for others, to get them off your back for a while. Just being a loving friend, or brother, to someone doesn’t require being a millionaire. Is that the only thing you took from all this? The only part such a thing matters is bail and paying for those high-dollar rehab stays. 🙄

When Clint decided to make the change, I love how his father stepped in and spearheaded this, even though Clint was 30. You never stop parenting. Drugs can affect any family. It doesn't matter how much love and support a person gets from their family, nearly everyone is exposed to them. Some pass right by, and others have a brain chemistry that connects to the drugs and their effects. It takes a lot of will power to change this and a lot of support. I don't know why, but I really want to hug them both.

Parents should be strict with their kids and supervise them closely since you are taking a very big risk if they do not respect/fear your guidance. Trying to be your kids friend and being afraid of upsetting your child could lead to bad behavior which may never get corrected.

Really enjoyed this interview. Ron’s aunt and uncle lived down the road from my sister-in-laws family here in Oklahoma near Pawnee. She said he would visit them occasionally in the summer. His family was really special and my sister-in-laws mother took care to check on them when they were in their final years. I grew up with watching Ron and Clint and they are special, salt of the earth and that’s what is really refreshing. Every day people with extraordinary talent and gifts!

When your parents raise you “ in brotherly love”. It’s hard to see them falter. I have 3 sons, 3 that I would do anything for. I live each day knowing how fragile life can be. One of my sons has been in treatment/therapy for 2 years. At one point in time he looked like death, and I told him to get help, or he would surely die. We do not have the luxury of money. We are poor but we have a love for each other which will never change. I always told my boys to love each other cause when I am gone that’s all they’ll have, is each other. ❤❤❤

"Would do anything for him", this sounds nice on a Hallmark card. This the version of love that someone sold you. But in fact, it is codependency. We are each born alone; we die alone ; and **we must decide how to live, on our own**. Take your hands off of your son's steering wheel. Detach with love. Give that steering wheel to father God and your son. God gave you kids, yes. But when they're grown, it is time for them to go out, and be the purpose that was intended. I had six sons, the first had a freak medical incident at 24 and died in his bed, my husband found him. A bomb went off in all of our lives. The youngest was 13 at the time. He was weeks from finishing college, had two jobs and a fiancé and a 4 year old son. Until they are dead there is hope. When it’s death everyone just the end period. Everyone has to do the best they can to survive.

I met Clint once back in the 80's. He and a couple other guys selected a campsite next to mine in the Sierra Nevada mountains. Ended up hanging out with them for the evening. He seemed like a decent guy. The next day I rented a boat with one of the other guys and spent the day fishing. Clint ended up leaving early. I believe the three of them had met in rehab. Not sure if he left because the other two were smoking, or for some other reason. Kind of wished later I'd invited him to go on a hike. Might have saved myself the nasty sunburn I got while sitting on the lake 😀

Amen to that! I lost my brother to suicide now 18 years ago. A gorgeous guy, Stanford University grad (varsity rower). My sister and I would say, brother got half the brains in the family, my sister and I split the other half; she and I were CSU, Chico graduates! Before he passed, I coaxed him to come over to China where I have been doing business for over 25 years now. We were sitting at a table/banquet like only the Chinese can do, the six or seven of us at the round table. The beer is flowing, some nibbles before the main dishes. The only English speaker, my colleague of over 25 years leaned into me and said, "Your brother more handsome, more smart than you." I looked across the table, seeing my smiling and joking brother (no English spoken by his new "friends" at the table), and thought, *shrug* you're right! There was a tear in my eye too.

This is a great video. It shows both sides of addiction. I would ask Clint not to, “call Bullshit”, on Ron. Watching someone you love giving their life up is incredibly hard and heartbreaking. A person doesn’t know what best to say or do.

In Feb 1993 I was helping with auditions for a movie in LA and Clint Howard was there trying out for a small part - Clint was by far the funniest and best. Typical of the business we were overruled by the producers who were friends with James Farentino and they gave it to him.

Been laughing and enjoying Clint Howard for Years... supper Funny actor; had no clue he was related to Ron Howard. Double Whammy the relationship in regards to how Ron encouraged Clint's freedom despite his own being restricted growing up is a real thing and ive done the same.... despite how i was programmed to be you live your life.... was a slogan i gave my younger siblings constantly. 💚💚💚
