A look at the Aperture and Shutter Priority Modes and why shutter priority is more preferable to use with this camera.
Showing the use of neutral density filters to increase the shutter times for long exposure pictures.

This camera has sooo much bang for the buck, I am still working at learning how to “bang” it, even though I’ve had it quite a while. People who give photography lessons shy away from lessons on bridge cameras, and I definitely see why! I had so much fun creation stop action videos for my grandsons, using your tutorial. I always come back to your ‘beginner lessons’ because I don’t shoot often enough, and my memory not up to snuff. Thanks so much for sharing your vast knowledge (over and over again).

wow, thank you so much Graham, ive had this camera just over 12 months and never really delved into how it works, ive used it as a point and shoot really, just thinking the camera would just do the bizz, and mostly it does> More recently ive tried to learn how the noise affects my photos and when viewed on a larger screen, theyve really looked rubbish. all grainy and distorted. Now i have the confidence to use my camera in P mode. and discover how iso affects my photo quality. Thank you so much for making it all feel easy and that going into and discovering menus isnt as scary as it first seems!

Excellent video Graham, I like the tip about using the metal lens hoods instead of the UV filters, I have just ordered some for my lenses to replace the plastic ones that come with some lenses and can be a bit difficult to attach. Thanks for explaining how to capture the effects of moving water in practical examples. Looking forward to the next one on using video. Many thanks.

Thanks for another excellent video. Of late however when taking landscape type shots I prefer to use aperture mode at F4.5 rather than the shutter speed. The reason is that when using a quite fast shutter speed at a mid range zoom or higher the camera continually pushed the ISO out to near 400 (my set limit) to avoid under-exposure (even in our bright Australian light). By using the Aperture mode I can let the camera select the best shutter speed which saves me a lot of fiddling with the shutter speed to get a lower ISO image (being mindful that the Aperture will close down significantly on zooming). But definitely need to look into a ND filter as can really see how it adds flexibility in situations like waterfalls and ocean wave shots.

@GrahamHoughton12 I have a Lumix FZ70, when shooting sports (outdoor football), do you think I should shoot on 1/1000 and use shutter priority? Love your videos, explained very well.

Hi Graham, help! I am a total beginner and I'm struggling 😒 I can't seem to get a high shutter speed. I want to take birds in motion so have put on 4k burst but the higher shutter speeds are coloured out. What settings would you recommend please?

Outdoors providing it isn't bright sunlight then just use the P mode, Standard photostyle and centre weighted metering with auto ISO with single point AF. Use -EV exposure compensation if the bride is in white and if the details look lost in the viewfinder/LCD. Indoors you will struggle if you use any zoom at all. Flash would be the only solution but that would have to be a more powerful one than the pop up flash.
