What an extremely elegant timepiece. I disagree that the power reserve and the date make it too busy. I like the 4 O'Clock position of the date, and quite happy with its functionality. Also really glad the date doesn't have a magnification as I really dislike that. Thank you for the informative review, I can't wait to test drive one.

Great review and watch but I'm confused, Tim Mosso's review says it's 14.6mm thick and 48.5mm lug to lug but if you included the endlinks it's a whopping 50.7mm? If that's true, then GS still hasn't worked out the sizing kinks IMHO...

If you are beyond the point of having something for name recognition and want something that is actually "crafted" , GS is above and beyond any Rolex. Rolex does make iconic designs and are robust and has its merits. However, if not in denial, GS takes the cakes in technology and craftsmanship. However, too many GS has the ever annoying power reserve indicator and would do much better without it. As of current, GS is still a niche brand but it won't be long until the masses know about its superiority. Remember. Omega was the brand before Rolex overtook it and matter of time, GS overtakes Rolex esp. With the artifical inflation and limited supply.
@tomscott44382 жыл бұрын
Their watches, cases, movements are brilliant. The dress watches were too small and the sport watches were too big, and their straps and bracelets... rubbish. I've been in love with this brand for years and yet I never pull the trigger when it comes to making a purchase. The final touch (and what touches the wrist) are well behind the quality of the watch itself. A small item perhaps, but for this kind of money I want the WHOLE package.

The elephant in the room for Grand Seiko is the word "Seiko". Your average person on the street views Seiko as a relatively inexpensive but reasonably quality watch. However they won't spend several thousand Pounds, Dollars, etc to buy one. And the same person will likely view Grand Seiko as being just another Seiko. Its a bit like Lexus and Toyota. Toyota a good quality reliable reasonably priced vehicle but to go upmarket they have the Lexus brand and not Grand Toyota. So yes Grand Seiko can compete on quality of their watches but their name will always be a issue for your average person on the street looking to buy an expensive watch.

I really like GS! But... it is not overtaking or even close to Rolex. Build quality, movements, etc... doesn't matter when comparing. Rolex has morphed into a brand like no other. There are other watchmakers that put out a better product, all of them put together don't have the brand recognition like Rolex. And it's that brand recognition that distances Rolex from everyone else.
