The pain Kizaru felt was real and the anguish on his face is some of oda’s best work, and I think it did because for once Kizaru showed some emotion. This man can come off as unfeeling and it is scary. Oda had to cook on how to make him feel, and damn was it worth it.

That's not how the convo went. He said "If you think I'm SLACKING OFF, COME AND SEE FOR YOURSELF". He's obviously emotionally destroyed at that point but he's literally saying despite having to kill his friend, he was NOT slacking off. If Akainu came here and saw ALL of the marines and Egghead knocked out/half destroyed because of the damn Sun god + giant army + giant ancient robot + joyboy's haki, that would PROVE that Kizaru was NOT slacking.

We still don't technically know that it was Kizaru. Oda's recent SBS just narrowed it down to one of the two people present at the time who could "move at the speed of the light." Kizaru is the most obvious possible candidate and certainly seems to be what Oda is implicating, but he could be trolling us and reveal it was, for some reason, Van Augur that fed Luffy

The one thing that is always missed is just how sly Kizaru is. I think Luffy did dominate the fight, but Kizaru's mission was to kill Vegapunk. The way he took him out was reminiscent of some of his attacks at Marineford wounding Whitebeard, using seastone cuffs on Marco and destroying Luffy's key to Ace. This is further expanded to the concept of having a guard during his dialog with Sentomaru, it gives Kizaru the feeling of relying on prowess and having a sharpness rather than being as overtly oppressive vs say Garp or Akainu.

I like how the original 3 admirals show the different paths Garp could have easily taken as a marine, and the folly of all three. Aokiji goes all in on freedom, doing what he wants, but becomes a criminal in the process. Akainu goes up the corporate ladder, doing what he can to change it from the inside, but is constantly weighed down by corporate red tape. Kizaru keeps his head down, and does what he is told, but ends up suffering from internal conflict.

Now that you mentioned it, I realised that they kinda make up Garp's marine life up to this point; A man who want to bring freedom and justice to everyone by climbing the corporate ladder but ended up discouraged by the injustice he sees and keeping his head down as the results. Kinda how Luffy ignores his pain for other, Garp does the same. Maybe that's why his motto for justice is "My Justice", he just doesn't fit with any other types of justice in the series tbh.

Also worth noting that each of the 5 admirals' Devil Fruits directly contrast their personalities, Kizaru being light yet talking and reacting slowly, Akainu being cold and callous despite being magma, Aokiji being relatively warm and forgiving despite being cold, Fujitora being the one most against the oppression caused by the WG despite the crushing oppressive force of gravity, and Aramaki holding little to no value of the lives of other people despite his power embodying nature and the creation of life itself.

Bleach: Ichigo gets stuck in some time rift w his dad and comes out strong enough to beat Aizen...(Not a fan) Onepiece: The strawhats exp. loss, setbacks, all kinds of wrongs but keep on grinding to get strong enough to overcome. Kizaru was still very impressive I don't think Kizaru looked as weak as this video makes it seem. Kizaru was able to stand up to Luffy without trying to fight Luffy. He literally accomplished everything he was supposed to do while depressed and questioning his life while fighting the sun god. I think Kizaru was very impressive during this arc and even "tied" with Luffy during their fight which he was actively trying to not be a part of not because he was scared but because he wanted to get his mission over with. He knew he couldn't accomplish his goal if he took too long because he didn't want to do it.

The story of Kizaru and the Straw Hats to me is perfect. It was Kizaru who showed them that they were not ready for the New World, his presence at Sabody showed us for the first time how none of the Worst Generation were ready to fight with the powerhouses that were waiting for them. But he also never felt overused or just used as an insert to show the marine presence. When I saw that Kizaru was on his way to Egghead, I knew that this was the arc where we would see if Luffy was finally on their level. And yes Luffy did beat Kizaru, which was the opposite of Sabody, but it does leave room for Ryokugyu to still cause problems down the line with how different their powers and beliefs are

Borsalino is the only one of the original Admirals to maintain his Admiral identity while Sakazuki has left his Akainu days behind to become the Fleet Admiral with an implied daughter in Hibari while Kuzan had left his Aokiji days to become a morally conflicted member of the most arguably morally bankrupt of the top 4 pirate groups while cutting ties with his old friends. Borsalino remains attached to his Kizaru identity- being an attack dog for the World Nobles and he might be questioning it now

Kizaru has been my favorite admiral for a long time at first I was super disappointed in his egghead fight until we saw him crying then I really saw how him being there really messed with him. There was a lot of talk for Kizaru to join Strawhats and I have to say, I am happy to see that he didn't. He had reasons to do so, but it would have been too quick of a turn for him. Now scarred from Egghead it could make more sense. But he is kinda perfect as is. I will wait with great interest how his story will come to an end or if this was it. Probably not.

I just realized on sabaody every other crew featured in the arc got out relatively fine except the strawhats, and in egghead every other crew featured in the arc got destroyed by their opponent (law, kidd, barto) and the straw hats got out of their confrontation safely
