A good player and an all star but come on it’s not even close to a 23 yr old drose getting hurt . Let’s say god forbid Zion never gets his hurt right …. Zion at 20 was 27 ppg and looked almost unguarable . Again paul George was going head to head with a Miami prime and was in his early 20s …. Grant Hill really couldn't shoot. He was a slashing Elite Rim Finisher. His Free Throw Rate was extremely high. Didn't have 3pt shot, couldn't shoot from outside the restricted (4FT) to 17FT from the basket. People to revise history, with long 2s, but G. Hill was not a very good shooter.

I love Hill's comment about wanting to pass because I've said numerous times, we always want the next Jordan but too often fans and sports media have a hard time understanding is that's players are wired differently with different athletic ability and different skill sets. LeBron, Grant Hill, Bird, these guys had similar games in that yes they can score but they also have to pass, they're just wired that way. They can have stretches where they score a lot but they can only do it for so long because they're just wired to pass and score, they have to do both. Jordan was unique in that he was exceptionally athletic, had a scorer's mindset, and had the skill set to be a great scorer so combine that with his work ethic and it was a perfect storm with Kobe being similar, fact is you wouldn't want Kobe or Jordan to be focused on distributing because it takes away from what comes naturally. Magic, Nash, Chris Paul, Stockton, Kidd, those guys are passers and just wired to pass, it's their first instinct and what they want to do, they could all score to some extent but they just aren't wired to be scorers and that's what people have to understand, players have certain wiring, we can want them all to have scorer's mentalities but in the end these guys have certain games and that's what makes them great, too many people get caught up with the next Jordan and it's time to let that go.

Outstanding breakdown
@lp3860
@lp3860 2 жыл бұрын
You missed one part: MJ did whatever the team asked him. Collins put him at PG because the team was struggling early in the 88-89 season, and he averaged a 30ppg triple double for that stretch. When they went to triple post, they basically told him "hey, we are going to take the ball from your hands and your overall numbers will suffer", and he did that. Bird could play without the ball but James? No way in hell. He's terrible without the ball in his hands at all times, which doesn't always helps his teammates. And about MJ doing what is needed: against Magic it was double digit assists for the Finals. Then they said Clyde is a better shooter, so he shot way more threes against Portland. Then the Suns were too high scoring for the Bulls (which might have been true if Ceballos and KJ were both healthy, KJ did his best while limited), and he averaged 40+ in the Finals. MJ could adapt to so many different styles. He could dominate the ball or move without it. Still the most unique player I have ever seen play.
@jamesmarshall6619
@jamesmarshall6619 2 жыл бұрын
@@lp3860 I didn't miss anything. Jordan wasn't a point guard, they did that out of necessity and their record was okay but it's not like the Bulls took off. Doesn't change my point, Jordan wasn't a point guard, you didn't get the best version of Jordan having him focusing on distribution and to maximize his greatness Phil Jackson understood the best version of Jordan was where he focused on scoring. Just because someone can do something doesn't mean that's the best use of them, especially when it takes away from what they are truly elite at.

@@lp3860 Yeah, MJ averaged over 11 assists in his 1st NBA Finals and was actually leading over Magic until the last game when Magic had 20 to his 10. He did whatever he needed to or wanted to.

I was a freshmen at Duke during Grant’s senior season, 1993-94. A lot of great memories from that 1993-94 season including: - Meeting, hugging and getting the autograph of Jada Pinkett as she was dating Grant at the time and attended the game where his jersey was retired. - Bill Cosby also attended the Temple (Eddie Jones, Aaron McKie, Rick Brunson) game that season. Bill walked across center court about 3 minutes before tip-off. Cameron crazies were cheering…..***Jello Pudding Jello Pudding Jello Pudding*** It was crazy. - I got to see Tim Duncan (Wake Forest) in person for the 1st time as he was a freshmen at Wake Forest that season. Randolph Childress was their go-to-man that season - Also attended the UNC game (Jerry Stackhouse & Rasheed Wallace were freshmen). They swept us both games - Charlie Ward- His Heisman season where he played game 1 of that football season at Duke. FSU crushed us. Also got to see him and Bobby Sura when FSU came to Cameron. Maryland- Joe Smith was a freshmen We lost in the 1994 NCAA Finals that year to Arkansas.

Been a Pistons fan since the Bad Boys time. Long before the internet this dude was definitely "the next Jordan". More like a Jordan/Magic hybrid. A triple double machine when there was still defense. Sky high basketball IQ. Incredible athleticism. That injury was tragic. In brought the Pistons Ben Wallace and Hill found some success later but it's sad that he didn't achieve his potential.

I hate Duke, but Grant Hill was a baller. In my opinion, the closest thing to MJ Duke ever produced. Grant was solid at everything and had no glaring weaknesses in his game by the time he graduated. Elton Brand is probably the only other Dukie that I rock with. Side note: can anyone find me the UNC equivalent to Christian Laettner stomping on someone's chest during a game, or Greyson Allen's unsportsmanlike conduct? Think Coach Smith would've left Montross in the game had he stomped on an opponent's chest?

Oh my god. Yes. "Grant Hill drinks Sprite?". "GH4 by Fila, change the game". For 6 years especially his last season in Detroit, imagine if LeBron played in the 90's when the game allowed some hand-checking and zone defense was illegal... that was Grant Hill.

We(fans & media) never let Grant Hill be Grant Hill. Only “Michael Jordan”. Same with Luka to Lebron now 😕
