What comes to mind when you here Toyota Tacoma? Tough? Supreme reliability? Practicality? Near indestructibility? Perhaps all of the above. And you wouldn't be wrong.
Toyota has been building trucks since 1935. That's right, 1935! Over the decades things have changed dramatically of course. Engines, transmissions, cab and bed configurations, the introduction of 4WD have all come and gone with tweaks here, spruces there. But then in 1995.5 the name that is the essence of stalwart was born - Tacoma.
No longer was Toyota selling the "truck", they were selling the Tacoma. Not only was the name new, the whole truck was new. This included new engine choices, the suspension, the sheet metal, the interior and even the frame. This really was a new truck from the ground up, one that was designed for the US market. And now over 20 years later, the Tacoma is still a nameplate that commands respect for its stupendous reliability, utter loyalty to its owners and endless hunger for hard work.
2017 models do not deviate from the path that Toyota has blazed for itself. With two engines options - a 2.7l 4cyl and 3.5l V6 - three transmissions, three cabs, three beds and both 2 or 4 wheel drive available the Tacoma is configurable to meet each persons needs. As such the truck handles what is thrown at it with ease whether you are tackling your daily commute or roaming off pavement.

Excellent review, but the picture quality is lacking. I think the software you used must have compressed the video a bit too much around the 10 minute mark. Also, good job mentioning the JBL sound system and giving your thoughts on it. Believe it or not, people interested in trucks do care about such things.

Great video. Next time when you have picture-in-picture with the GoPro, can you move the video of yourself to the top right corner and shrink it? It's obscuring the view of the drive itself too much.

This Tacoma had the factory Toyota bed cover on it - available through any Toyota Parts Department!

Not available through any Toyota Parts Department. This is the factory tonneau cover and cannot be added after.

Actually 3 transmissions. 4 banger has a 5 speed manual.

Good catch TheJoncic, I knew that and didn't even realize I said only two. Guess in my head I was thinking manual and auto, disregarding that both 5 and 6 speed manuals are offered depending on the engine chosen. Thanks for watching our video!

Are heated seats available on all trim levels or a package?

Great question! The heated seats are part of the "Premium & Technology Package" available on the TRD Sport and above. You are able to have your dealership add heated seats as a stand alone option for you, they just won't be Toyota branded.

That is the anti-lock brake pump. It pulses the brakes at specific intervals to keep the speed low, and traction optimal - nothing scary!

I got a 2017 Tacoma and it is JUNK! The rear dif has an annoying, loud hum noise that Toyota says is normal and will not do anything about it. Been hearing complaints about the transmission in the 2016 models. I am extremely disappointed in my 2017 Tacoma. I have owned 3 other Tacoma's with no problems 1995, 2000 and a 2005. This is my last Tacoma. Think twice before buying a Tacoma. I am looking to ditch mine for a Ford or Chevy.

No, I looked at a GMC Canyon, but it's going to cost too much to switch out. I'm going to keep calling Toyota about the hum until they come up with a fix and fix it.

Absolutely love my 2017 Tacoma. My rear diff makes no such noise and trans has no issues as well. The 4x4 system is amazing and I cant wait for new off road tires to up my game even more.
