I live in Hawaii and of Japanese ancestry. We had Japanese puffed rice of different colors growing up in the 50s-60s. I don’t see them anymore. But watching this made me understand why it was called Japanese snack.

In Iran We are In West Asia But like the people of East Asia, we have been growing rice for thousands of years and Rice has a high place in our culture. We also have many sweets, drinks and snacks that are made from rice like this puffed rice that we make with grape Syrup or Palm Syrup!! in childhood There was always an old man selling Puffed rice and wheat in our alley on a bicycle, sometimes we didn't have money to give him and he was so kind and gave it to us for free !
In chicago usa Quaker Cereal prepared their puffed rice like this seller and it was sold plain and sweetened.Their slogan was shot out of cannons .When you would pass by the factory sometimes you would hear the explosions

That was so interesting to watch. The pressure the rice must be under in the cooker is insane! When l was a child there were no fancy breakfast cereals available but in the 1970s we could buy puffed rice. I LOVED it but, it wasn't sweetened like this stuff is and we ate it with milk. Is this just eaten like a candy or is it used as an ingredient?
@RegebroRepairs Жыл бұрын
I also loved puffed rice. You could buy chocolate bars that were just milk chocolate with puffed rice pushed down in them. That was my favorite when I was 10 or so.

Puffed rice is a very common thing in india. You can put a handful of it in your mouth while sipping your evening tea. There are many recipes in which puffed rice is used. You can also have puffed rice balls binded with caramelized sugar syrup. Another recipe is spiced puffed rice with many ingredients. It can be soaked in sweetened milk and taken as mini meal anytime.

@@RegebroRepairs You've reminded me, I'm pretty sure we could get something like that here in Aotearoa/ New Zealand too. Cant remember if the who,e bar was puffed rice or not though. Picnic bars and Chokito bars have a layer of puffed rice covered in chocolate around the outside of them and are pretty good. Won't eat Cadbury anymore and haven't seen a Chokito for years but, l want one now. Lol.

wow that looks so complicated, in india they use furnace a large sieve with handle, the sieve holes must be big enough for sand and small for puffed rice, that's it, heat the sand then place the sieve on utensil and heat sand in it so utensil holds the sand not once sand heated up throw rice on it it will immediately turns into puffed rice now just lift the sieve the sand will be fall into utensil and sieve will filled up with puffed rice.
