I know this is an older episode but i recently discovered your channel and i am finally getting around to watching your journey. This content is awesome and must be seen by anyone who wants an unfiltered, unbiased view on anything and everything sailing. And the Black Keys… love your taste in music!

Hey...how nice to see another episode of Sailing Lady K. Great video as usual. I wish we would have known you were going to be in Saint A for a week. We would have loved to host you guys for at least a few more dinners as we love to try new restaurants. Was feeling so much better 48 hours after we saw you, not like us to cut an evening short. Can't tell you how much we enjoyed meeting you two. Hope one day we get that pleasure again. Always look forward to your next video. For all of you fans, these two people are the "kewellest" people on the water. They have great answers for all of your questions...but be careful....you will leave inspired to sell all and join the wonderful community of all the great people afloat. What could be better. Take care. Best Wishes. J&J

Bought your book. Well done. I hope you publish a book for each stage of your adventure. Please include information like water depths. Good places to anchor. Where to do laundry and buy rum :-) I am restoring a sailboat now and will definitely be following in your wake.

Nice to see You guys. Yes the ICW is absolutely beautiful. Hahaha, yeah, the tropics and the bugs.Well, no matter what You do it´s better to find a way to live with them. I can handle it less when I wanna sleep. For that I closed of the V berth with bug screen to have a place to hide.and inside I hanged one of them small blue bug lights.You also need the bug screen for the hatch. To Your batteries... kind of hard to tell. Guess by now You know....Never can have enough of them.. Hope You have LED. That makes a BIG difference. But from the distance it seems like You need more charging capacity. You could try to find some used solar panels on Craigs list or in used marine parts stores and mount them to the life lines. This will give You a big boost because You can change the angle to the sun. Yes, some windy amps in the night time always come in handy. It´s good for the batteries if You don´t drive them too hard. But I don´t get it. You charge a lot with the engine on the ICW. Why don´t You have enough juice ? Well anyway. Those little generators are always handy to have and a good back up..... Can´t wait for Your next vid. It´s very scenic to explore the channels with the dinghy. Just a few miles inland and You are out of the big city. That´s were people in Florida live on the porch surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens. Enjoy, Cheers

Hey thanks. We do need more solar for sure. We’ve been looking thanks. Yes everything is led and we only hurt for power when we are anchored for several days.

Great video guys, love the sights. Very glad you made it with little to no mechanical issues. Just a thought, I know $ is an issue, but as far as wind generators go there should be tons in boat yards all over Fla and through out the islands with hurricane salvaged boats (not that I want to profit from any ones misfortune but I'm sure by now the insurance has paid out and the stuff not going back to the water still has plenty of good gear on it) just a thought , I picked up a set of Harken 2 speed self tailers for a great price last month, cleaned and greased them and they are like new. Keep up the good work, you are an inspiration to the rest of us! Safe journey !

Wet golf cart batteries are the "best bang for the buck" ! Yes, you need to check the water level often and top off with distilled water. As you said, they are a BIG cost savings over TRUE deep discharge AGM (Trojan T105-AGM). If you are going to run the generator, run it long enough to get the batteries up to 100%.
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
Yes they sure are. Some day we’d like lithium but these work very well. I check the water often but they seem to use very little. Yesterday was the first time we actually got to use the generator. It kept under powering the battery charger and blowing fuses. I since stopped running it in eco mode and now it works great. We charged up to about 85% and shut it down and went shopping. The solar got us up to 100 by the time we came home 😁

Where are you getting the bugs? If only at sundown, yes NoSeeums, just change your screens to smaller mesh and use spiral bug things that you light up works fine! If on the beach, well beach fleas might be in your linnen. But, à doctor years back, told my wife to take one small aspirin, yes yes a small bayer aspirin a day as it changes sometihng in your perspiration and guess what it works, believe me it really does. It takes more or less 7 to 10 days to actually begin working but my wife has been doing this since 2005 and it really helps. As for you sail drive oil, what sail drive do you have, if a SD20 or SD40, 50 etc, you can actually change most of you oil with the same vacuum pump you use for your motor. Just plunge your tube down and fiddle with it by pushing, trying to get it as deep as possible and you will get most of the oil out, when hot. BUT and I specify BUT you do not get it ALL out, so you have to analyse the color of your oil, if murky white, you have water in it and will NOT be able to get all the water out so you will have to get a haul out eventually. But if no white murky water well you don't have to haul out. We have been doing this for many many moons and have not yet encountered any problems. Ahhhhhhh at last your video was there, I am soothed to have watched it. Thanks a lot, Love you guys
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks so much for the advice. Our sail drive is actually a 120s so it’s a bit different. Appreciate you watching and offering advice. Cheers :)

Awesome tips guys. We're going to be following in your path next year. Is it tricky to anchor along the ICW? And how were the maria costs in St. Augustine?
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
Hey guys welcome to the journey. Buy the Skipper Bob books. It covers everything from anchoring to marina Cost. In st aug we took a mooring ball. I think $25/day
@WildlyIntrepid5 жыл бұрын
@@LadyKSailing Awesome thanks for the advice. We're definitely going to have to buy Skipper Bob's guide. Were the mooring balls hard to get or was there plenty?
@gmfurnald92195 жыл бұрын
About that mooring ball in Vero Beach. What's the cost for each night, is there a price break if you stay longer than a night? Good luck on your travels. My pal (an American A pilot and Blue Water sailor), his wife and daughter plus me and my wife chartered a 38 ft. sloop out of Coral Gables, reached Bimini at night, bounced off the bottom trying to get in to the harbor, made it to the Berry Islands where the diesel engine packed up and then sailed to Nassau. With no engine the freezer/frig. warmed up. Hd to sail into Nassau at night against an outgoing tide and perhaps 3 knots of wind. Very memorable charter!
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
Hey. Usually $25/night or about $350/mo we learned. Sounds like one heck of a charter haha. Glad you had fun. Thanks for watching.

We live in rural Australia and have mosquitoes and noseems and really insect repellants if they work at all its only for a few minutes , I take antihistamines all summer to ease the bites but as far as I have been able to find nothing really repels them and no body really knows what they are noseems seems to be a general term world wide.

"No anchoring in Vero beach" Vero beach is like that because it's run by old curmudgeon people. (I know this because my mom lives there). That looked like a Manatee to me also. Congratulations on Miami Guys!

A hint from a hunter in the low country of South Carolina. Purchase a few therma cells. They work great on both skeeters and no see ums. Amazon has them cheaper, however Walmart can fix you up too. Should be able to pick one up for 30 bux or less. Keep in mind, they don't work in wind very well, but will make your cabin very tolerable. www.thermacell.com

Envious......just East of Toronto and put the snow tires on last week. Try Bronco spray for the bugs...….we use that on our boat out in Lake Ontario, find it in an Equestrian or saddlery shop, not supposed to be for humans but I spray it around the deck and it seems to help. www.farnam.com/all-products/fly-insect-control/bronco-e

I am surprised that your solar panels can't meet the demand. Is it your computers that draw that much energy?
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
Hi. No it’s the fridge. It is a very old cold plate and compressor that was installed in the early 80’s. it lacks insulation and typically draws 6 amps almost all the time.

Isn't it just as simple as attaching a altinator to a pole, attach a propeller to the altinator and run some wires?
@LadyKSailing5 жыл бұрын
It really. The propeller would need to be very large to spin an alternator fast enough. You need an electric motor and smaller propeller.
