I recognized so many things about my father in that character. Fortunately, there was no physical abuse in my family, but constant emotional and psychological abuse. A total narcissist, even to his dying day as a birthday gift to me, he left me a box of memorabilia - all photos of himself. It's incredible that someone can only see the world from their own point of view and that they are the one who matters. The actor playing the part of Matt Walsh so expertly portrayed a narcissistic abuser that it's eerie. The mind games, subtle or overt put downs in his speech about his "wife", his grandiosity, etc are too much like the real thing. And Josie Davis realistically played a woman trying to appease him in every way to keep from being abused & potentially k*lled, while stuffing down her real feelings and planning a secret escape. Here's to all of us who got away and are free, living better lives today!

I'm in the middle of working on my third book, which is about a man who is like this character. It's meant to warn women of the early signs they will experience with a man like this and to let them know that this is not a man you want to have anything to do with. I have notes going back years of each event and crazy conversation we had. Not only is this man extremely fussy about the tiniest speck of dirt, he has rules which he changes so that it is impossible to keep up with them - guaranteeing my constant failure. He remembers every mistake I ever made going back years, but never anything I did that was good . The constant badgering about dumb little things, over and over again, eventually becomes soul crushing. This type of man will never acknowledge that their partner has talent and will never acknowledge their accomplishments. It will never get better because this type of man is a miserable specimen and deals only in negativity. You can never win any argument with logic, because he isn't interested in anything you have to say and will cut you off or talk over you. You will constantly hear how you don't listen to him and that if you did listen your life would be better. My advice - take nothing, just run away as fast as possible.

Narcissists are not far away from psychos.. although the person in the film is not a narcissist, he is a psychopath , narcissists won't be suffering from being left or not loved, neither they would put themselves into a danger by killing anyone for revenge (unless they have psychotic traits), their problem is that they are not able to feel love or empathy.. they would be simply looking for another victim, putting all the blame of separation on a previous victim, narcissists are not human beings, they are sub-humans as they can't feel or behave like us...one has to experience narcissistic abuse "on their own skin" to fully understand classic textbooks about narcissists

'why do you make me do this' after getting abused, lack of ownership, and gas lighting, the classic narcissist

He is a real psycho: wicked. It's extremely important, a matter of life and death, that women conduct a thorough background check on men who want to waltz into their lives and take up permanent residence through marriage. This is painful and frightening to watch, but I'll try and remain seated and focused to the end. Women, be ever vigilant whom you allow into your lives.

@lilyumwiza7152 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing this out. This was me until recently. And u know what's worse, while you are like this you don't even realise how destructive it is until it destroys you, then you start to search for reasons why you keep meeting the same abuser just with a different face, colour and shape. And then you find freedom! Then you soar very high, but this time with not just boundaries... I mean, you put up a firewall to protect the new freedom and you stop being bothered about what others think of you or whether they like you. The new you is fierce!

I was emotionally abused by my mother! Took me years and lots of therapy to get over it. But I will say my experiances with narcissistic behavior with my mom taught me to recognize the signs of a narcissist and only 1 man in my life tried to control me but I ditched him quick!

Though I'm a huge Josie Davies fan, this film has more holes than a Swiss cheese...... - If Shane could get away so easily on the forest trail why didn't she simply leave her abusive hubby when he was out at work??? - To add to her stupidity she leaves blatant clues in her house as to her whereabouts so that any idiot could find her - Then she stays at her cousin's cabin and goes to bed BEFORE locking the doors - Out of hundreds of acres of forest, her nutter of a husband finds the EXACT TREE that his wife hid in! - Then Meg goes to the bank AT NIGHT leaving the front door unlocked - Shane doesn't see her husband STANDING RIGHT OUTSIDE THE CAFE as she walks past him! But I have to say that David Millburn who played the nutter husband is absolutely brilliant in this. A film worth watching.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Omg... Finally, somebody said this. What felt off was her getting nice and acting normal with a stranger guy right away, once she reaches her cousin. Trauma that a victim gets after the abuse isn't portrayed properly. Moreover, Meg not closing the door on her way out astounded me big time. The chemistry between the two (new guy and Shane) didn't click with me, despite them being good actors.
@JMJung-od4em10 күн бұрын
Haven't gotten to the door business yet but as for the first couple of plot holes...I think she took the opportunity to run away in the forest because it would give her more time to run away, as in he would search for her, followed by other people searching for her, presumably, then her being declared dead...etc. If she just up and left he wouldn't think it was an accident. The clues she left around the house were prob just her subconscious will to go to a place where she knew somebody. Sure it shows her naivety and all that but I guess plenty of people are like that.

the synopsis of this movie is sounds EXACTLY like sleeping with the enemy...while i was reading it i thought it was the Julia Roberts movie (sleeping with the enemy) and i thought i had clicked on the wrong moving because ive seen sleeping with the enemy 57 times (& i love it) but i was looking for something new to watch...so i had to look at the title again to assure myself of which movie i clicked on lmao..thats why i had to peek at the comments to see if anyone else noticed that this movies description is almost word for word of sleeping with the enemy....& to see if i was going crazy...so i hit up google & searched sleeping with the enemy & yup...i knew it...lmao...ANYWAY....im definitely going to watch this one because id love to see how this story line plays out...im sure its good since the comments tell me it is...sorry for the long comment....but i had to verify if im crazy or right cuz most of the time im wrong or a bit off course...lmfaoooooo

The one thing I learned was to keep your enemy close! Know where they are and what mood they are in! I tried to get away and lived in constant fear and he found me states away! Law enforcement tried to help but it was a constant fear! He died of cancer and I am finally free from the fear, looking behind me and living in constant anxiety of him getting hold of me again!

Heart breaking 20 minutes into the movie. Classic case of narcissist man who makes his wife feel stupid worthless and insignificant 😢. Today have been abused to narc abuse from my sister boyfriend living in our parents house. It has been a nightmare just imagine how it must be to live everyvday near such a person. This may be a movie but very sadly its reality fir so nany women and in some cases men. Hope all of us break free from every narc we have to live near

It must be very young writters on this. Not only is the story already used in “sleeping with the enemy” But to name the maincharacter Shane Walsh? I’m sure they could’ve come up with a name that was not already used by a popular character from an iconic tv-show.
