In the real world you just don't take out only the knife, that's what makes this scene implausibly complicated. In the real world where you can also hit and stun your opponent, it wouldn't take that long. Ok ty for this video. But I just have to give my two cents. I was personally stabbed with a machete here in Oak Cliff Tx. A suburb of Dallas the hood'. It was in 1993. I was fighting with multiple men and the man stabbed me in the back with a machete. It was an excruciatingly painful. I ended losing my left kidney, my lung collapsed and I lost a third of my pancreas. The thing is, many fights on the street come from behind. That's real world. Real killers come with knife out and when your not looking. I was 23 and so I was blessed to be young and strong then. But it took a long time to recover. Over a year with a bag attached to my pancreas. Could you guys do a video on defending from behind. Most hits in prison come from behind, and usually to the neck. Thank you for this video and God bless everyone. John 3:16. He is Returning soon!

I grew up in Oak Cliff. I'm Mexican American, my neighborhood is mostly Mexican. Imagine East L.A but in the South. I have lived here all my life. I have seen it go from bad to worse to pretty decent. Now you have the yuppies coming in and taking their slice. You know, near downtown. It seems in all large cities you'll see gentrification. But yes I was in my neighborhood. But I should have been more aware. It was my fault for not paying attention. And I didn't see the knife. My friend told me he saw it. And there was multiple people fighting. It wasn't unusual to see brawls, shootings, drive bys and such. I saw a guy get killed at the age of 14. I've known many people who were killed at a young age. I think knowing how to defend yourself helps. But I also believe you should always be armed. I've known quite a few people been robbed at gun point. And ironically it's always us minorities doing it to each other. I was also no saint. Back then I was no good. I thank the Lord God Almighty for saving me. Jesus is the real deal. I hope this clears up some things. God bless everyone.

I was a black belt in Judo when I was young and I can see how useful it is to be well acquainted with judo or a similar martial art to understand what was happening in that video , due to the fact that it was as a close distance fight that the encounter took place. I was kind of shocked with the “blade switch” because not being at all acquainted with knife fighting I did not expect it, and I thought it was lethal because when the Judo and Jiu Jitsu fighter was about to have control of the knife wielding hand, the knife fighter just switched his his blade to the other hand and that was kind of a shock .

The Active Self Protection channel shows a lot of real life incidents caught on camera and something I've noticed is that in really effective knife defense, they *don't* fixate on the hand with the knife but rather the leveraging arm and use that to slam the aggressor face-first into the pavement; just something I've noticed - I'm in *NO* way an expert of any kind! EDIT: Typos and edited for clarity

3nertia I would say that any knife-wielding opponent with grappling experience would easily take advantage of an adversary that fails to defend the knife-side hand. A lot of real life incidents of knife-wielders occur with untrained fighters, so it may work, but I wouldn’t bank on it.

@@brendan4160 You've never been in a knife fight before. In Philippines and UK, knives are very popular that many fights and gruesome murders has occurred every single day. Even trained individuals like military lads or martial artists struggle to disarm the attackers especially, when they have "Bolos"(Machete). Real fights are very unpredictable. The analysis was spot on. The mutual respect was refreshing. Every serious knife fight I've seen, if the combatants know what they are doing, end up with everyone getting cut, slashed, or stabbed. Highly unlikely you're going to pull off that outside crescent kick and knock a blade out of someone's hands.

That's why I prefer a well-aimed shot at ranges up to 2000 yards. Especially at my age ... I'm 71 .... I don't want to go hand-to-hand with anyone. I'm still strong and agile, but either of these combatants would off me in less than 10 seconds.
