When I was little, my Dad tore down old houses and built our new house with the lumber. My little sister and I had the job of pounding out all of the old nails. My Dad taught me so much about construct over the years that I am able to build things myself. Teaching kids skills like this will stay with them forever!

First may I say? I think that is great that you are teaching the boy how to build things. It's important that they have the skills to use through out their lives and they will be able to say my mom and dad taught me how to do this. The deck looks great I love it! I'd love to have had one that big when we first got our mobile home we had to have those pre made decks and steps 4×4 for the past seven years. My new porches are all done except the metal roof. They are not going to put it on until it looks like we are going to have a couple of clear skies. Angela you were so cute coming out on to the deck. And of course the both of you holding hands going up and down the steps. I no it is exciting to be another step closer to getting in your home. Could we see some pictures of you when you were dating and your wedding and as the boys were coming along. Your family is beautiful. 😍

Angela, I love living vicariously through you as I watch you use those tools. Before he passed, one of the last things my dad told me was that he was sorry he never let me touch the power tools--that it was because I was a girl and he didn't think girls could use them without getting hurt. So, thank you for showing us what you do.

Angela and Sam I would like to say that I really admire the way y'all work, laugh and raise your children together.Too many times now days couples can't work together (especially when it is so hot) without arguing or getting mad with each other. Y'all laugh together at each other and at yourselves. Your children are well behaved and included in the work even when you are hot and tired and could get finished with a project faster if they weren't helping. They will appreciate the home they helped to build more now. I wish all couples would make videos like y'all do. It is a pleasure to watch your videos and not wonder if an argument is going to break out lol. Y'all are doing a great job and can't wait to see what you work on next! AWESOME FAMILY!!!!!!

Your deck looks nice! If I could suggest one small addition, it would be to consider adding risers to the front of the steps. I think that would make it look more finished. Whether you do, or whether you're don't, you two did a great job! You have really transformed the place!
@cherylsmith-bell65092 жыл бұрын
Yep I was going to suggest they look at what Life Uncontained did for their underpinning. Would look great. Horizontal 1x3, space, 1x2, space, 1x3 That might be cheaper than solid wood, but I don't know that for sure, there.

Your deck is beautiful. I love Angela coming out the door and showing off her new deck. Super cute!!! You two are doing an amazing 👏 job as parents. You are allowing your boys to learn valuable skills but understand that they are still kids. They help and run off to play. That's important 👏. Plus who doesn't want to play with the scraps and let their imagination run wild? It's refreshing to see parents allowing their children to be children. Keep up the great work! 👍 One day your kiddos will have children of their own. The memories and skills that you are providing will no doubt be passed on to their children. A+

To make removal of concrete forms A LOT easier, spray them (generously) with nonstick cooking spray. You obviously only need to do this to the side that will be making contact with the concrete. For a little bit of style, and safety as well, when your budget allows, you can get solar powered caps for the 4x4 posts on your porch. You can get them in black to match your color scheme. I think it's great that you're including your sons into these projects. They are learning skills that, not only will most likely not be taught in school, but that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. KZbinr Derek from "Vice Grip Garage" has a son named Bentley who is about your kids age, and also has his own KZbin channel called "Little Grip Garage". I think your boys as well as you would enjoy both channels. Derek's channel is geared toward reviving old cars and trucks, while Bentley's channel is geared more towards his go-carts, and mini bikes.

The deck looks really nice, the suggestion I would make is to attach the side rail posts to the stair rail posts. It will add a degree of sturdiness and avoid the side rails from tilting out over time. Also the stair post at the top of the stairs I would add 1 or 2 screws in the opposing direction(into the stairs) think cross bracing. Fantastic that your taking the time to teach your son and to see that he's interested.
