Dismantling an aluminium and glass greenhouse. How to remove and re-assemble again. This one is 8x6ft, made by Eden.

Just about to dismantle a greenhouse, it's very intimidating, thank you so much for this, I feel more confident about it now!

I knew nothing about greenhouse construction until watching this very helpful video. My son, who handily lives next door, had a 6'x8' Eden greenhouse he did not need, use or want. I grew some great Alicante beef, and Roma plum tomatoes in it this year, a pepper and cucumber. It also had a fruiting grapevine inside, some 40+ years old. I have 'adopted' both. With 50 panes removed (none broken!), my wife and I lifted the whole frame, minus door, over the 5' hedge (not bad for two mid-70's OAPs, photos to prove!) and it now sits on its new flagged base. Seals out, moss removed, wire brushed then pressure-washed, glass cleaned, it will look great. I re-planted the vine outside this time to go in through a bottom corner, hoping it will survive. Just door, window and glass to replace - and the missing door runners! Yes, a window-fixing bolt sheared but will swap for another where a normal bolt will do. @@mikeb1043 . Hi Mike. Thanks for the reply. Yes, what I learned was very useful. Glass all fitted, I have just completed insulating the insides with (large) bubble-wrap to extend the growing season. I hope to try my 80W caravan solar panel and leisure battery with a new 12V heater. For fortnightly caravan stays, I made a home-made gravity water irrigation system with a £1 B&Q bucket and spare 4mm pneumatic tubing drilled. 🙂. I hope to get off to an early start, some things already started, like garlic and broad beans, Also 3 mushroom growing kits on the way. I just have a problem trying to source two replacement sliding door rollers (about 7/8" dia x 3/8" wide, with 3/8" bore) which are completely missing, just the studs left. All I can find have a radiused groove on the outside and mine looks to need a male 90 degree vee profile to match the female vee'd track runner. May be obsolete now, but will make/have made if needs be. Looking forward to next year, Best wishes.

Ive just had a few panes of glass break on a greenhouse that was in a garden of a house we bought and as its my first greenhouse i didnt have a clue how to go about changing the glass panes but this video is fantastic and explains everything clearly. The gentlemen took time out of his day to record what he was doing,how to do it so we should be grateful not complaining about the quality of the video or what the gentlemen keeps saying..keep up the great work Mike..brilliant

Yes my clips are different again, I slide a thin rod under them then lever ping them out, I didn't at first, I used pliers and broke a couple of panes of glass, never mind, I have to completely rebuild it with many new nuts and bolts, some glass but it is enjoyable, your video is good, thanks.

Hi Mike B. I've bought mini snipe nosed pliers, but I'm still struggling to remove the square metal clips. Are you putting the pliers behind the main part of the clip (to get to the back piece) or nipping the back piece against the front? I hope I'm making sense. Btw, my greenhouse is an 8ft x 12ft (with three horizontal rows of glass on the roof)

Best thing to do is download the assembly drawings which gives you the glass sizes and where they should be go that’s what I did and it made the whole process a lot easier

From what I remember the rubber strips slid into a channel on the aluminium pieces. I've found a bit of washing up liquid will help them to slide out. Not sure how you will find replacement rubbers. There are lots of companies that sell synthetic rubber extrusions by the the metre on line. Once you know the dimensions try searching on eBay or just google.'replacement greenhouse rubber seals'. I used soapy water and a soft bristle brush to get the green stuff off. A microfibre cloth to finish if it's not going to rain!

Hi. Well, in theory no, but it depends on your mechanical capabilities. Certainly not without pitfalls I would say. You could possibly remove the glass in the back walls, put the two back to back, line them up and mark and drill a series of holes around the frame. You could then nut and bolt the two together. I can't remember if the roof overhangs the frame. If so you would need some sort of spacer between them (square section UPVC perhaps). You would need to put some sealant in the join to make it weatherproof. There would of course be the original aluminium frames from the backs, in the middle inside. Don't remove those as they will make the structure rigid and stop it flexing around in a wind. If you do it be very careful, lots of opportunities for injuring yourself. Good luck - Mike

Is it details of the glass clips you require? I obviously cannot know what clips are fitted to your greenhouse but I would guess most types would work. I did a search on Ebay and there are many types available at reasonable prices. See link below.
