Just to elaborate on why they're so cocky: Remember that they read a few magazines talking about Ushijima, where it talked about how his team Shiratorizawa was one of the favorite teams to win the nationals tournament. Think of it this way: If you are a casual follower of some team that is one of the favorites to win the world championship in some sport, you don't even bother to watch their preliminaries, you just maybe start watching AFTER the real championship begins. This match is the preliminaries finals to go to nationals, on their point of view, this is barely worth their time. For the last 3 years they faced Aoba Johsai at the finals, won without a sweat, and went to their real tournament at the nationals. That's why they're cocky. And THIS is the mountain Karasuno has to climb, if want to go to Nationals. And this is the 3rd years last chance.

For real you can't even blame them. Like first watch of this season obvs you're riding with Karasuno eager to see if they can clutch a win but the show is so good about attaching you to multiple characters and different teams I couldn't help but be impressed by the opposition. Now whenever I watch this season I'm kinda biased seeing Shiratorizawa do what they do. Shit is beautiful. What a savage team to face. I would love to see matches of them against Aoba Johsai tbh. The frustration must've been insane.
