To be honest. I enjoyed it a lot more. Ironically, it was like a breath of fresh air from mainstream Marvel and/or Disney (dependent on opinion but factually they are now both the same) Seeing as I am a teen. I wasn't around in the 90s and have never watched any films like it. To me it seemed well original. Well original enough, many have had the same idea i.e the landlady by Roald Dahl. I agree that the two main actors had a big role to play. Did I expect more. Not really... Simple uncomplicated story. Can't go wrong with it. But that's what most filmmakers in modern day do... They overcomplicate the story line until it's not very watchable e.g star wars the last jedi (in my opinion). I don't think it was bad to make the film simple. It won't exactly compete with other films like it however at box office. It was a good contender to films that were either not good or too over thought. Or animations which I 95% am not a fan of. Would rather go watching Greta over avengers (please don't murder me avengers fans... Not saying it's bad it's just my opinion 😊) Animations... Are a whole different strand of thought. If anyone somewhat wants to know why I don't like them. Feel free to reply 😊. I am open to objection, change and questions 🙃
@ok-xs2oo3 жыл бұрын

Chris, it's because you've likely never been stalked. It's not about how much stronger Chloe's character is; it's scary as hell to be fighting against someone who's so disturbed that you don't know what they're capable of. But you know for sure that it's likely much darker than anything you, as the stalkee, would do, so much of your energy is spent both watching them and watching out for them. I loved the atmosphere of this movie - especially in this crazy world of today.
@dchardinaycole59445 жыл бұрын
Wow. Thanks for that perspective, I'll give it a chance today.
@tommym73215 жыл бұрын
I'll call some bs on that perspective though. This was a lazily written movie even though I enjoyed it. I get what Chris is saying because this movie just kept making Chloe's character get defeated or act weak when she shouldn't have been. For instance, Chloe's character didn't wait for Greta to open the door to the room and then beat her with the chair that she already showed she could use as a weapon when she was beating on the door. But then the movie also wants us to believe that Chloe's character would hit Greta with a rolling pin to try to escape not long after. The script vaccilated between making her the weakest person to ever be kidnapped and then a strong person fighting for her life. It didn't make sense.

Umm excuse me but being stalked by an elderly lady isn't scary at all, if it was a man then everyone would understand but no Elisa. Throughout the whole movie i came to despise Chloe but love Greta. I mean all she wanted was a friend and in all honest if I found all those bags i would've just stayed shut and still had dinner. I might be crazy myself but Greta is a ninja. On screen she walks so slow but offscreen somehow she's so fast being able to get on the Bus before Cloe's friend. Either lazy writing or she's in blackops.

I think both of the actors are great and very good at the craft. I completely agree with your points. i just found it very hard to buy into the premise that chloe’s character was 1. THAT naive (especially in 2019, given her age) and 2. She was physically unable to extract herself from the older woman’s grasp. It would have played better if chloe’s character had a form of physical impairment to give the illusion the two were physically equal in strength. You gave it a fair rating.

It's so upsetting to see such a great movie get the attention it did. I don't know how, but it seems almost everyone completely missed key points in the movie. People say it's basic and isn't able to be a deeper film, when it is! Erica and Frances represent the two voices inside that debate over red flags and the father represents moving past grief; Greta has a unique reason to stalk Frances, and Frances has a unique reason to come to her. There are also very symbolic moments in the film, like the dream Frances has where she spiritually speaks to her mother who encourages her to move on. I just think the movie should have gotten more credit for that instead of negativity from "dumb" decisions and a "basic, predictable plot"

This is the very problem that sucked me out of the film. I kept yelling in my head "Why don't you just hit her!?" The mistake the writers made was making the main villain appear as more of a physical threat than a distant psychological/mind games one. Or making her for most of the film not have a believable means of subduing the main character. A taser, a gun etc. It's even more jarring when Chloe's character is clearly bigger than her. Sidenote: Man Chloe Moretz really put on muscle since her Kick-Ass days. Atleast it looked like that rather than weight.

I loved the review. I think if the roles are relatable, it is fun to watch. Being stalked is scary. Finding out someone is looking for you, or watching you can break you down emotionally and mentally. I was temporarily stalked before, and this person started off trying to be my friend, finding my social media content and posting something. They started to attack me on their social media page, posting pics of me. I have been paranoid since then and dropped my social media presence. Now, if this woman would have found me and showed up, I would do what is necessary to survive. Stalkers and kidnappers don't give us any consideration or mercy. It may not be who we are to hurt someone else, but you can't get a "I wouldn't hurt a fly" attitude when someone has literally made your life hell. I think that is the one huge gripe I have with this movie.

So Neil Jordan on In Dreams mode (remember that film) I really admire him as a filmmaker, but like most directors there are a few hiccups along the way. The main cast alone is a highlight Huppert, Moretz and Monroe are actors I've liked in past films and the idea of this film being a tad camp does make me wonder if this will be a so bad its good type film. Even though this may seem run of the mill, I'm kind of intrigued in checking this out.

Straithg to VOD? DAMN, I'm old. I thought he would say "straight to DVD". It took me a second to realize he meant Video On Demand.

@@stephen876 Uh, I think he was referring to a similar movie from the early 90s about a girl (played by Bridget Fonda) who is looking for a roommate. She posts an ad in the paper and the new tenate, who takes on the offer, reveals to be a very disturbed single, white, female.

@@gameraider100 Yes, I think so too. But there is no outstanding similarities. The only remake or inspired film is the roommate.

It's just so hard for me to watch movies when I don't like the cast (I don't like one specific member), but I think I'll watch this one anyway, great video 🖤
