About the art angels characters: "Not everything has to fully reflect you." Funny, because I was thinking the same thing about the way I hear popular music now as opposed to when I was 20. Back then I probably would have loved all the visuals in these videos, but I would have been alienated by Grimes' vocal stylings and the over-the-top club kidism she presents when the videos include a lot of people. I used to want to kind of live *through* the music I listened to- It had to speak for me, and I had to be able to put myself in the shoes of the artists. Now "not everything has to fully reflect" me. Rather than landing on Grimes' world and being engulfed in it, I can stay in my comfortable spaceship and orbit around Grimesworld. I get to pick and choose what elements and traces of all sorts of music that I like, and I'm not so constrained or annoyed by stuff that doesn't help me define myself to other people, or make me feel like I'm somehow a part of the crowd that has an artist or group of them as it's leader and idol. I turned from a follower into a wandering explorer. So it's pretty cool to hear Grimes say the same kind of thing, especially at such a young age and as an "idol." If she follows through on that instinct, she might even be able to popularize the kind of performance art that is now trapped in the museums and art schools- never seen by any but a handful of people- because it's too damn confusing, even for people who are trying REALLY hard to understand what's going on. Maybe we've found our EDM version of David Bowie? At any rate, I'm going to keep checking in to see what she's up to.
@KarlaRodriguez-mx2od4 жыл бұрын
Now I totally understand that there're different types of intelligence. She's an incredible artist to create visuals. This is the result when people dosen't limitate themselves and doesn't care if they fit in the mold or not. Cool.

For those complaining about her use of the word "like", It seems her use of it might be due to using filler words to occupy what would otherwise be awkward silence while trying to gather racing thoughts. You can tell in every interview she struggles to find words. Also if you listen closely, along with the "like" is and idea, thought, feeling or belief she really really really wants to get across. I believe it's more like a cue word. I use "You know.." and "like" a lot also bc it triggers my brain to stop long enough and it buys myself enough time to form a coherent sentence.

@anxietyminx8 жыл бұрын
+cannibalholocaust I dont think she means she hates being complimented on her appearance. I feel like the word "cute" has two different meanings here and in the industry, they use the meaning that is almost belittling of her character and craft. Hence why she said "a cute kitten" in the definition. When you're trying to make a point, or whenever you're very serious about something, the last thing you want to be called is "cute" because it sounds like you're not being taken seriously. I think that's where she's coming from. I could be wrong though.

That last bit really touched me. Anyone that doubts Grimes can't say that she isn't legit. You can tell her art and music has meaning. it's not just a bunch of sounds. She can get really deep

GOOD 4 HER, I've been listening to her since that first Genesis video I saw (years ago-wow). Also, I like that the fact that she doesn't compromise her endeavors, doesn't dismiss the past, doesn't sit back, collect $ and let THEM take over HER work!

Say what you want, Poppy will never be close to this level of genius and if she keeps coming for Grimes I don't think there will be Poppy Seeds left after that war is over ;)

@I'm talking about a musician, her talent, the influence she has on her fanbase and comparing her to a different musician. But hey, don't mind me, I'm just a 'fool people' and apparently need some growing up to do. I guess her boyfriends, tabloids and possible offspring are much more relevant. Thanks for the information anyway!

I haven't fallen Inlove with an album like I did with art Angels in so so so long it's amazing like art or atheistic for the ears.. Goal for the year is to see her live or work one of her shows and get something signed by her
