With two US carrier groups being sent to the Mediterranean Sea, we simulate a fictional strike by Iran from Syria on one of these carrier groups. Iran uses 150 Silkworm missiles, 150 Drone and 50 Attack Boats in the attack.

It’s not really scary tbh. This scenario relied on some hugely unrealistic situations…..massed boats just bein allowed to stage next to the carrier group, the CH being so close to the coast, etc. Realistically none of this could happen. Great fun to Wargame though!

Hezbollah has 100,000 missiles / rockets. Increase the amount from 150 drone/missiles to 1500 each. That's 3000 drones and missiles the carrier group cannot stop all of that and will be sunk. Even if the carrier group manages to escape they are out of the fight for weeks. To travel back to a supply port and rearm. The cost to taxpayer will be huge. The USA would go broke before they even deal with the 100,000 missiles/rockets from just Hezbollah. We still haven't counted what Iran has, China, Russia.

@@rbrick3685 realistically the US Navy would have shot down those missiles then deployed everything they have . Meaning F35s Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, Boeing EA-18G Growler and if they have any Rapid Dragon pallets on board the C-2 Greyhounds can carry 10,000lbs of palletized cargo. So a couple pallets of cruise missiles would definitely send the right message. Not to mention that call saying we're under attack just invited the closes air base with US forces on it to get in the air. In other words Syria is about to become a parking lot in this scenario lol.

Yeah, spacing the launchers too close together caused the problem where the missiles were able to take out multiple silkworms and/or drones with only one missile once again. Both the silkworm and drone launchers need to spaced out as much as possible. Also, like others in the comment section pointed out the launches need to be better timed out. First launch the boats and let them go until they're getting close to the point where they would be picked up on by the carrier group to be intercepted. Then, launch the drones so that they begin saturating the carrier group's SAM network. Once the carrier group's SAM network begins intercepting the drones is when the silkworms should launch. Timing it that way gives the boats time to get close enough to start being useful in that they might get close enough to basically spawn camp any fighters launching from the carrier while they shoot at the carrier's radar and other detection systems. The drones will give the boats cover from the fighters for a while to get closer due to the SAM network potentially shooting down friendlies while intercepting the drones. When the drones start being intercepted is when the silkworms should launch as that allows for a time gap between when the slower drones launch and when the much faster silkworms launch. As the drones saturate the SAM network and start working their way closer to the ships the silkworms launch and start catching up with drones acting as fodder/cover for the approaching silkworms. Once the silkworms finally start passing the drones is when the SAM network will start dealing with them as well. However, at that point the silkworms will have gotten much, much closer and may get through the SAM network so as to damage the carrier to prevent the launch of it's fighter wings.

@@matthewcox7985No time on target means how long they can/should stay on target before going bakc to base
@Elzon1
@Elzon1 8 ай бұрын
Correct, but in this case it will be more like staggered launches. First the boats as they're the slowest and they'll need quite a bit of time to close the distance before the other launches. Next, the drones will launch which will catch up to the boats relatively quickly and they will begin to saturate the carrier group's SAM network. Finally, once the drones begin to be intercepted and saturate the SAM network the Silkworms will launch which are by far the fastest munitions in that attack. The Silkworms will quickly catch up to the drone wave as they keep the network saturated. Due to waiting a while to launch the Silkworms they will end up covering a greater distance and get much closer to the carrier group before the network finally begins to prioritize them once they get closer than the drones. Only then will the begin to get intercepted. That gives them the best chance of breaking through the SAM network and hitting the carrier or other ships in the group. @@matthewcox7985

In reality this would never work. You have to take in the electronic warfare aspect. The majority of drones work of a few standards frequencies. Firing that many, operators signals would override others causing about 5-10% loss and having a EA-18 Growler jamming the entire frequency spectrum would null and void any signals getting to the drones. There are stories of certain EA-6B’s just wrecking any guidance transmitters and receivers under specific “shock and awe” conditions. They aren’t widely used since the very attack also affects “you” as well.

@matthewcox7985
@matthewcox7985 8 ай бұрын
If I recall correctly, Shahed drones don't use remote operators; they use GPS/Glonass/etc. to find their way to targets. Inertial guidance isn't out of the question either, so signal jamming may not affect them. Still, if a Prowler or Growler gets close enough, any unshielded electronics will go bye bye!

M8 you are way over estimating the reliability and efficacy of EW… On a few targets, maybe, on hundreds, nope. Same with the missile intercept concept here. Sorry to say but there is no way in hell to independently target that many targets, it’s just not going to happen. You’ll end up with some getting targeted multiple times and others none at all.

For those claiming that one middle couldn’t take out multiple, I’d just like to point out that some of the middles are NOT kinetic energy based and are instead flak based. So imagine a sky full of coned out metal flying through the air. It’s not unrealistic or impossible for one middle to take out multiple others. Also air craft carriers have their own anti missile defense systems, they don’t solely rely on the carrier group to handle everything. Just a large chunk of it. Also with real deconfliction I lean toward saying that there’d be an even higher hit to kill ratio than what we saw. But let’s all be honest. It’s awesome watching this. A swarm of drones and missiles heading to a carrier group…. The sky quick to turn grey with trails from missiles fired from the strike group! God think how loud it’d be.

Of course with 2000km range, you would have to aim for a predesignated GPS coordinates not for a carrier group which is a moving target, but neverthelesss, Iranians have a wide variety of drones, most of which can go beyond a few hundred kilometers in range and a few of them have live video feed.

I've had a 27 ft boat, with 2 Volvo Penta 270s which are V-8s and at 20 MPH there is no way in hell I would be able to hit a moving target...let alone 60 MPH, if you dropped a bomb within 50 feet of my boat I would surely be fcked.

Besides the tactical of spreading the attack out in a 360 degree, or as near to as possible, the only way those attacking units can cluster like that is if Iran has Air Superiority. If this were the case, the carriers not be there.

10 minutes in and it's effectively a mission kill. The carrier group would have to pull back to rearm so its out of the fight.

This is nowhere near enough what Iran would throw at a carrier strike group. Hell, Hamas, a second rate terrorist outfit without any real rocket or ballistic missile manufacturing capabilities, lobbed 5000 rockets at Israel in a concerted strike. Iran has spent the last 4 decades pouring resources into rocket and ballistic missile manufacturing and tech.

Is this a use case for an ESSM with a booster ? No guidance needed unlike SM2. And probably 2/cell.

I believe that the SU 27s in your previous video should’ve been using American supplied AIM- 120 amrams which should be guided by datalink

AIM-120 is not compatible with Su-27. That would take significant changes to electronic systems and wing pylons on the planes.

You realise that you could say the same thing about harm missiles, oh wait, we literally have video evidence of western equipment being compatible with old soviet equipment , also the aircraft doesn’t even have to guide the missile the aircraft just has to fire the missile , which is as easy as firing unguided rockets and you just have to press the button to fire, the missle the missile will guide through datalink
