Our Land Rover is on the road in TAIWAN!!! 台灣獨一無二

Maybe you're wondering what the the text in the title means...
We are on the road in Taiwan with our Land Rover Defender 130. Although there are Defenders in Taiwan we are officially the one and only Defender 130 in the entire country! (99.9% sure of that anyway 😜)
In this video we collect our Overland vehicle from the Port of Taipei and begin our exploration of this country in our Four Wheel Camper truck camper and home of 4 years.
We visit indigenous villages, go fruit picking, traverse beautiful mountain roads and get a new pair of tyres fitted to Bear.
This is only the beginning in what is shaping up to be one of our most epic adventures so far.
This video represents all that we love about overland travel and we really hope you enjoy it, welcome to Taiwan... Overland Style.

Props for getting your home on wheels through customs and into Taiwan. If you happen to go down South to Kaohsiung, make sure to contact KZbinr Xiaofei in advance. He's into the outdoors (canyoning, scuba diving and exploring natural hot springs) and offroad-worthy mobile homes / campers, so that should be a perfect match for the two of you.

I am a Singaporean, and it's true that TW is really beautiful. Just watch out for the motorcycles on the road. Some don't really follow the rules. Other than that, it's a good vacation destination

The advice I had on my first day of riding a motorcycle (in Taipei of all places) was to only follow old riders, never young riders. The older ones have lived to tell the tale. (125 Sanyang, around January 1991 I think... but at least now in Taiwan everyone wears helmets, back then only me and about 50% of riders.

@@bradaltemeyer4472 When I was a high school student in Taiwan ( 1980s ) , one of my English teachers who is American said the thing he loves about Taiwan the most is that he is able to ride motorcycle without wearing helmet. I was in shock, like, wow, so that’s what foreigners like about Taiwan... Of course later I learned he is a rare case.. Guess he is from the state where wearing helmet is required at that time...

@@casey2888 We do have some not wearing helmets here in Texas, I believe our motorcycle law says something like/ you have to pre-pay your funeral expense if you don't wear a helmet, (but I am probably totally wrong about that one), I am impressed by the changes in Motorcycle law and practice in Taiwan (helmets now required, and on our last three visits 2010, 2014, 2018 we did not see any families of 5 all on motorcycle (like the old days 90-93), I did participate with lifeguard training in Taipei around 92-92 if any of your peers were in those classes they might remember a very tall Texan, but that may be a generation after you. Mr. Pan's wife in Tanshui sewed my swim wetsuit and Mr. Ma brought back lifeguard techniques from Canada. *and I sent a complete set of redcross lifeguard training manuals back to Fumio after I returned to Texas.

@@bradaltemeyer4472 I once visited Dallas TX in summer 1990, then came to Oregon to study in 1997 and stayed in the states ever since. I moved 17 times and currently live in Illinois. I tried to visit Taiwan as often as I can since other than my husband and children, all my families are in Taiwan. So I totally understand what you are saying 😄😁😂😅 Every time I went home, I was amazed by the changes. Taiwan has been becoming cleaner, more aware of certain issues, and overall better in many ways. Thank you for sharing your memories in Taiwan. (I grew up in Tainan though.)

Taiwan is indeed amazing, and the air is much cleaner now, as a result of many things. I used to visit Frankie's Fan Factory in Tainan, as well as a clock movement factory. I did visit a few places there back in the old days. It is amazing that in a 18 to 21 day vacation in 2010, 2014, and 2018 I saw almost as much each time as in three years of living in Taipei. My wife and I did an around Island tour in 2018, and rented motorcycles in several areas (couldn't quite get down to being able to motorcycle around the entire island/ but we did travel with much less stuff) **my family's "lao Jia" is next door over in Indiana -that is were the largest concentration of all my relatives live.

Finally got your rig picked up. Congratulation! The “test” plate is quite rare on the street as only limited numbers are being issued and mostly for commercial purpose. Mate this place is epic! I can't remember if the STT Pro is a popular tyre in Oz? I know the Cooper ATs are pretty common down there. My old man swears by them.
