This is a GREAT Adam episode. A quiet examination of his strength of character, and I loved his moments with Marty, he was so kind and wise in this one! Definitely my favorite Cartwright. ❤ Pernell was amazing.
@lastmanonearth5580 Жыл бұрын
I agree, Pernell was a first-class actor who was always professional in every way, to me the Series was never the same after he left and there was always something missing in the later episodes without him. I had heard that he felt unappreciated by the Producer of the Series and argued many times with him. I also heard that after Pernell left, the remaining three cast members "split" his Salary between them! Pernell was the best of all of them in my humble opinion............

"The Way Station." An apt title for an episode of choosing between two paths, the good and the bad, the one less traveled, and the one more traveled. Adam is his cool, logical self. Marti is dying to get "out of jail." Luke has made his choice of freedom to Mexico to thwart justice. Lucy is "experienced" at finding the "right" girls. Tim risks his life for the reward money. The stage driver just wants a respite from the storm. And domineering grandpa can't show his love in a gentle manner, not knowing for 8 years, he's caused a fractured relationship. Jail, prison is what you make of your surroundings. The call of Freedom to grow is endowed in all of us. Tim would rather die than be in prison. Marti would like to get out of her 10-mile prison, with grandpa as her warden. Kindred spirts?? Most men are protective of their womenfolk. A talent is a gift that must be cultivated and harvested. Spunkyness means you will be all right with the right love. Key messages: 32:01 > 34:30, and 46:35 > 47:10. Interesting continuity....8 shots from a 6-shooter! No extra bullets in their gun belts. Good work with Pernell Roberts, Robert Vaughn, Dawn Wells, Dorthy Green and all!! Another good, didactic script for Sunday school. Kudos all around! Thanks Grjngo

I always loved shows and movies where people are caught in some shack or town and there's a storm. The Petrified Forest (1931) comes to mind. And many such plots in Outer Limits and Twilight Zone. This episode is quite engaging. Robert Vaughn was smooth as ever, and it fit. Dawn Wells as a bubbly persona seemed out of place at times, but still a good performance. Pernell Roberts was superb in this episode. Frank Cleaver, Fred Hamilton and David Dortort wrote a fine script. Everytime I see a stagecoach on a long shot, I think how miserable a ride that would be. Next time I'm on Greyhound, I'll remember that..
@GiftSparks17 күн бұрын
Yes- I was thinking of The Petrified Forest too! But this ended up being a bit more believable. I mean, I always found it odd that the Leslie Howard character walks around with a life insurance policy with him. I mean, who does that? This actually was a bit nicer with the Robert Vaughn character getting redemption by seeing that Dawn Welles got the bounty money to pay for her arts education. Wonder how long the ride was from Virginia City to San Francisco on a stage coach.

@@suskaklapp6641 Wrong!! D Dortort admitted years later that he was too hard on Pernell and regretted it, He said every part he played enhanced the performance, Pernell had tried to come and go with Dortort and had been promised a greater diversity in the character which did not happen, Dortort left the door open so Pernell could come back but as we know he didn't, Pernell said later that if he was to be allowed to do other things he would still have stayed even part time with Bonanza. When all the other cast members died Pernell said "he watched re runs of Bonanza when he wanted to see old friends". A great man, actor, activist and much missed !! RIP Pernell!

There was a time in Hollywood when actors were chosen for their talent rather than their looks. Actors like Pernell were born and bred for the silver screen. Literally born and bread. Most of these wannabes of today can't even come close to the amount of talent actors like Pernell and others like him had back in the day.

Dawn has been seen in a couple of the Bonanza shows. She is the quintessential young actress.
