Whatever happened to you, dude? You never got back to me. I ended up giving all of those Yoyoka links to Wave Potter, including a few live and TV performances that aren't on KZbin anymore. I offered them to you first. But either way, the majority of that stuff can be found here still, just not some of the NHK, concert and drum clinic stuff.

Hey Vand3r, Yoyoka just released her 3rd cover this week! "Cream - Sunshine Of Your Love / Covered by YOYOKA" She gets better and better every week. She has new green drum heads and they sound AWESOME! One guy said he respectfully likes this version better than the original. He was just saying, not that she is better than Ginger Baker, just a little different. You know, the "Yoyoka Effect" that we all love.

Thank you. I'm impressed by the depth and professionalism of your critique. Yoyoka is something special, isn't she? I don't have time for most KZbin drummers or prodogies. Another great video. (For what it's worth, I liked your "pause and comment" style!) Your point about Yoyoka's timing is spot-on, and what amazes me it's how she combines that metronomic timing with a loose feel and groove. How?!? Another thing that struck me about this performance is the beautifully played rolls and ghost notes on the snare: understated, intricate, serving the song. Looking forward to your next video.

She's actually said just that in an interview before. She said she wants people to focus on the song not her playing. What an awesome human being! Her wish can't fully come true though. There's no way her playing can be listened to as if it were "just part of the song".

@@waynelynch9557 I totally agree with that...The other side of the coin is she has gotten some mad respect all over the world. As you know many bands, not only in Japan, but all over the world, have already allowed her to come on stage and play in their bands. Multiple "Legends" have reacted to her talent. And although they are always in awe of her talent, they treat her like a member of their band or like the seasoned professional that she is! You never see anybody treat her like a kid.

GREAT analysis. Actually, people can disagree on the question of pauses. The best technical commentators DO pause midstream to make comments, but only if it is material. Then they rewind a few seconds to pick up the flow. ( I have no interest in reactors who have nothing technical to add.) What you did here is great---playthrough and then going back for analysis. But some labels are militant and will strike you or force a takedown for full playthrough, so in those cases you have no choice but to pause a few times (once every minute or two).
@vand3rhorst

Hey Vand3rHorst, I just noticed Yoyoka has changed the name of her channel from "KaneaiYoyoka channel" to "Yoyoka channel". If you want to see how well she speaks English now, go to her channel and hit the "Join" button (Whether you join or not). She has an intro video that really shows off her English. This wonderful little lady is either getting some awesome "business" advice and guidance or maybe she is coming up with the ideas herself. I think it's a combo of both. She's pretty savvy. She does the intro twice, first in English, then in Japanese. Realizing that her English speaking audience is much larger (only because Japan is a relatively small country in comparison to all of her fans throughout the world). I'm joining ($4.99/mo) because she gives access to other videos and as you know, I can't get enough of this awesome young lady.

@@vand3rhorst i didn’t mean to be hatsh - it’s all good - your technique is awesome - you look very relaxed. As you said - sometimes not clean - you lose the pulse when changing from one section to another. I’m a bass player, not a drummer (actually haven’t been a professional muso in a long time. I had the same issue - I could play in time - did a fair bit of recording to irritating click tracks, but I seldom played in the pocket and never for a whole song. You know what I mean - it’s when you’re so locked into the groove without thinking about it. It’s what makes the great drummers and bass players sound great (not the trade show musicians, but the ones in great bands). It’s what makes a simple groove sound special - it’s being locked in to the groove with the other people. Yoyoka does it with covers, without having the band around her, but she is a very special musician. You have a ton of talent - if you work on the pocket, particularly through changes, going from a groove to a fill and back locked in, you will be an exceptional drummer. Do you play in a band/s with other people?
