On his voice changing on “Metallica” aka the Black album… he destroyed his voice while touring Master of Puppets. Then while trying to record anything for “Metallica” it became impossible. He went to a doctor, they said basically you have to change or you’ll not be able to talk even before too long. They said he should go to a vocal coach, which he did begrudgingly. That coach showed him his proper range, taught him techniques on getting power without having to kill his throat, and gave him a warm up routine he still uses to this day! You forgot to tell her that the video for “One” was their first music video. Also, that it was based on the book “Johnny got his gun”, which is a much older book. And it uses footage from the movie by the same title that shows WW1 area warfare but was released during the Vietnam war therefore it was very controversial for the time. James use to go into old book stores and look at titles and would buy some occasionally. That’s how One came to be. Also where “For whom the bell tolls” got its name. It came from a book by the same name written by Ernest Hemingway released in 1940.

This venue, The Battery (?) was so integral to everybody's lives in the scene, so that's why the references to family and being found "in me" But also the references to aggression and violence, because of the live bands and the mosh pits and the crazy stuff that went on in the venue.

Strange how she avoids the 'sadness' of songs. Sadness isn't always a negative, and particularly in music, it allows you to feel and connect with the emotional significance of the story being told. Fade to Black and One are so impactful because of the emotional weight behind not just the lyrics but the instrumentation and blocking out emotions the song tries to convey only serves to block out the song itself. If you can't feel the song, it's harder to appreciate it

It’s genuinely awesome to get to show new people Metallica because they’ve evolved in a million different awesome ways. Kill em all is a raw barely produced or mixed in any sort of way album that stands alone at the pinnacle of shred focused thrash, ride the lightning is my personal favourite as the band tightened up and learned how to write songs in a million new ways like fade to black or call of Kthulu or even the rhythm heavy grooves of creeping death, it was so raw and also so boundary pushing in a million different ways, then you get to Master which is probably THE thrash metal album of all time. Everyone is so tight. Maybe the singing hasn’t really evolved yet but the groove on songs like Master, Battery and disposable heroes are undeniable. Coupled with the ballad that is Saniterium (doesn’t beat fade to black for me but that’s a personal choice) and then the INSANE instrumental that is Orion like holy shit it is insane that that album is only 8 songs because it managed to pack everything into the tightest track list metal has seen. And justice is rough to evaluate because I LOVE Jason Newstead as a bassist he helped write battery one of the grooviest heaviest Metallica albums tunes ever but aside from that and One the album felt technically very cool but also like there was a piece missing and like something was fundamentally different. Then you get to the black album which as a metal head is hard to hate and also hard to love, because yeah in a lot of ways Metallica “sold out” but in a million other ways they also became the best metal band that ever existed. The black album made the average person realize that metal music could be instrumental, melodic, gorgeous and heavy as hell in a way that had never been done before. Anyways to sum it all up Metallica is a band that has really done it all, especially in those first 5 albums it feels almost unfair in the ways that they made music. They made raw shred filled masterpieces like no remorse or whiplash, evolved into for whom the bell tolls and fade to black, creeping death, tightened things up into battery and master, recovered from heart breaking losses with one, blacked and harvester and rocked the whole world like never before with sandman, nothing else matters and unforgiven, like holy hell what a band nobody can take that legacy from them. They drew fans from every corner of music because they deserved it. Rock on up the irons and shred forward Metallica, cause you guys are a band that has been continues to be and will always be THE metal band.

Sorry that comment was way longer than I meant it to be. No need for anyone to read it I just kinda love music in general. Metal’s been my love since I was a kid but I play guitar, taught by a jazz/deathcore (weird combination) teacher, and whether it is blues, jazz, classical, reggae, hip hop, ska, metal, or whatever else I just love the way a random pile of pitches never ceases to pluck heartstrings across the world. Rock on in whatever way you rock on people. Music is important to all of us and that’s what makes it awesome ❤

Hello, I am not sure if you did this song video yet but incase you haven't i will leave the link below..So i have a song video for you to watch from Iron Maiden, it's the Live 1982 version of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', it is considered to be the best rock video ever made, Bruce Dickinson sings his butt off in this video, you can really hear his operatic voice come out in this song, with his long vabratos and long notes not to mention his vocal range. In my opinion this why i think every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce could when he was in his prime. Pay attention to the long note in the beggining of the song, and the 2 long notes at end of song, they are 'EPIC'...The song is about a man being sent to the gallows to be hanged and he is looking back on his life. Most of Iron Maiden's songs are about an important event that has happened in history. So watch this video for sure, it is amazing !!!...Must Watch. Ask your wife that Metallica never fully recovered from Cliff's death as depicted in some kind of monster. Then ask your wife if you can do a tribute video of Cliff Burton to show her how important he was as a band member and not just a bassist

I think the best way to listening to metal is let the whole song plays so you can taste all the changes and how they complement each other. Do you really have to pause and comment that much? But that's just my opinion.

Anvil's Metal on Metal (1982) was arguably the first thrash album. "March of the Crabs" and "Jackhammer" from that record are clearly thrash.

I can't believe you did not mention how Fade To Black was one of those songs that made many suicidal teens rethink their decision, thereby saving their lives. This was amid all the uptight critics and haters (parents and other authoritarian types) accusing all metal of "promoting" suicide, drugs, wanton sex, Satanism, and the rest of it.
