@1:10:22 for $300 a "modern" 3d printer can print in Carbon Fiber Nylon (PA-CF) or Glass Filled Nylon (PA-GF), these are the same materials used for nearly all cordless power tools, most polymer intake manifolds on modern cars and trucks (and some firearms). And, yes, the printed parts can stand up to under hood temperatures and have a variety of chemical resistances.
@garythecyclingnerd6219Ай бұрын
PA-CF and PA-GF still aren’t as strong as traditional injection molds. They may still be usable for under the hood applications, for sure There also a printer out there that prints a filament AND a single continuous thread of carbon fiber simultaneously and that - if I recall correctly - made it significantly stronger and put the dog bone test near some aluminums.

I don't really agree with that assessment of Toyota, the Prius was lightyears ahead as far as drivetrains go. They basically started from scratch and nailed it first time.

1:03:23 Toyota's 3.5 v6 turbo recall has nothing to do with the reliability. The manufacturing process was not great so some debris stayed in those engines. Other than that, Toyota still produces reliable turbocharged and hybrid engines. Also, I don't think Toyota relied on "simplicity". Their hybrids are pretty complex, Toyota just perfected they way of manufacturing them. This is what Japanese do mostly - perfecting things.

Toyota doesn't like armrests. Event the FRS/86 didn't get one from factory. There was an oem one you could order on your own that required drilling. Other than that a few aftermarket options. Does suck for the GRC though (taking delivery of my 25 MT this week)

The rate of EV adoption is slowing down. Annual EV’s sales are still increasing. Most companies that are walking back are those who can’t sell them profitably. Sports car brands may get away with this strategy but others won’t. The fact that Volkswagen wants to close plants in Germany doesn’t mean sales are up.
@fraserwright9482Ай бұрын
Not the first time VW made a bad product, Type4, K70..MK3 Golf, Phaeton etc. There are also tax incentives to buy EVs, we replaced our company cars with Skoda Enyaq's and it's why Skoda is selling so well in Europe. A PCP or other finance is based on how much the lender is going to lose over 4 years vs what the estimated price of a 4 year old 80k version of your car is, they will offer longer duration to reduce monthly payments, but cover with interest, something they could keep the train going by trade in back to the dealer. In America there are more customers under water than banks, a higher average price (now $50k) but your average income has not kept up. There is a $25,000 and below black hole in America for sub compact SUVs. In Europe we have the Dacia Duster, R5 and Korean car answering that. As for luxury brands, they have over-supplied and increased prices over the past 5 years, but have no tax incentive like EV sales. Again making a bad product doesn't help, Roma, Pursangue, FS90, F80 etc means the days of chipping in your Ferrari after a year and not losing money are over. That started with the 488 and losing $100k a year on a Bentley, Aston, Mclaren was offset by being able to walk in to them and buy it without the allocation BS, but it's now a Ferrari problem. With Ferrari and now Porsche they have used cars rinsing the ladder to special cars. The 911 Dakar is a Balanciaga moment, 2500 people buying a car they don't want purely out of fashion and allocation and now the prices are starting to fall.
