Seriously, at points in this episode, it felt like a parody of what progressivism looks like. It's all broad stroke, surface level statements about capitalism, the patriarchy and "Society" without any nuance or depth to said statements. I think my brain broke when Fareeha said "good art can not flourish under capitalism" then immediately references two films that both flourished under capitalism completely invalidating the statement entirely.

Capitalism is a dog, if we the people reward bad behavior, than just like a dog, itll do more bad things, so when we let prices go up and we keep buying and we never say no to prices increasing with our actual wallets then its gonna be pretty bleak, like everyone hates walmart and make fun of what it's become but like, we created that 😂 so really we just didnt do a good job of training the market to be actually healthy.

whenever these types refer to "the board" of a company, it's always some 79 IQ shit. "The board" is responsible for everything I dislike, when Blizz does something I do like, it's because the few good ones were able to overcome the capitalism and give us a they/them :(((

It is disrespectful. It's always disheartening that people striving for acceptance reduce people to one-dimensional identities of ideological promotion. There's a lot more physicality and history to people that makes them so much more diverse. It's like talking to a guy with crutches only in terms of his being crippled. He'd grow tired of and offended by it quickly.

It's ironic how America's biggots and nefarious people are on blast with emotional media meanwhile Canada openly champions its "you are not like me" with its French/English relationship. Jared Bauer did an amazing video on Idiocracy recently. Everyone likes to say "Idiocracy predicted our future" but no one says how or why but Jared concluded it's bc the public openly clings what is given to them. Pair that with corporate branding becoming the new political regime. He really highlights how people are only repeating an fundamentally designed echo. Worth a watch. You can argue it's not 1 to 1 but his breakdown of how truth was sought from nature to religion to politics to now branding is unseeable in my eyes.

I'm a member of the LGBT community and I tuned into this podcast because its a "debate" and yet, this podcast episode was far from a debate and more about politics and all that jazz, honestly, very disappointed that there was barely any gameplay talk and more about "Yes but the identity though.." like we are beyond that point now, we've gotten a new LGBT OW hero, lets talk about their gameplay and debate what is their goods and bads. Honestly SVB, more and more of your podcasts are becoming less about the actual game, let alone actual debates, podcasts get hard carried by Sam and Freedo who genuinely debate on healthy grounds whilst even now Flats just comes to exist on the podcast and drops his "Oh I dont wanna say anything or those people will come for me.." every 10 mins when he's asked to give his opinion. Never thought I'd see the fall off of this podcast but its happening and thats really upsetting to see, really hoping you turn this around, there's many new smaller content creators working their hearts out that would be fun to see on here as well just to talk about the game from diff POVs.

@@IcyColdStareYou can Understand the Value of the conversation about ventures identity without making it a majority topical focus. The point is to address it, then treat venture or whomever as they are supposed to be treated. Most trans/ non binary people want to fit into society without being seen or feel Alien to themselves. Focusing this much energy on it kinda just makes it look like a sore spot. The intro was actually a pretty good way to set the tone for the pod, while addressing the topic.

I am not an avid 'stream watcher' but when I can't play the game I will sometimes watch someone stream to help lessen the itch of not being able to play. Honestly, Samito tilts a bit too much for me to be a regular viewer (not a criticism, that is 100% just a personal taste thing) but I have tuned in a couple of times. I distinctly remember watching him stream one night and hearing a transwoman speak in voice on his team and like catching my breath and bracing myself for him or his team to turn nasty. I was fucking blown away when Samito went out of his way to be kind to her, having a whole conversation about the colour of her nail polish in-between fights. Like that should not have surprised me but kindness and empathy is still so rare in gaming spaces. He has held a special place in my heart since then.

Yeah, just from watching him over the years. He has certain conservative beliefs, he’s very far from a liberal person. But he has never let that dictate how he treats another person personally. The only criteria he has is how good they are at the game and how they conduct themselves. At least publicly. We never really know how these people are in their private lives.

@@frankmartinez4909 you bring up a great pet peeve of mine, and that is judging people solely by what they believe. I know conservatives from bad backgrounds who are the nicest people I know. I also know liberals who I wouldn't trust as far as I could nudge them. The same goes in reverse. I know horrible conservatives and great liberals. Society in general (me included) need to remember that political stances =/= morality (barring notable exceptions, there is room for disagreement in conversations where one side or the other is not literally evil, also known as "nuance") and people should be judged on their own individual merits. Anyone can say they believe whatever they want, they should be judged by action.

What is super fascinating about this conversation is every point that is made can be used equally for both sides. Samito sums up his conversation with "let people be people" and SVB monologues about "it isn't a big deal" and it isn't anything more than "a miniscule change on the scheme of things" but nobody wants to play the devils advocate. It's as simple as; no matter what argument or point you promote, every single point stands as equally valid for BOTH sides of the conversation. You want to say let people be people but what if those people WANT to misgender you. By your own admission you have to let them do what they want. So we have LuckyBonez agreeing with Samito then literally in the next section they speak, they tell bigots to "fuck off". Isn't that the definition of hypocrisy? I think a discussion about changing language that uses the same language is both impossible to solve and one of the most extremely unique conversations that go round.

Disagree on Venture's personality. Aaron originally described them as a swashbuckling adventurer (which even that is a stretch for a character who spends their life underground--you tell me a character is effectively a mole person, I am going to guess they're an antisocial freak, not Harrison Ford). But fine, this is OW's Indiana Jones character. But now we see them, and in what way are they swashbuckling? Do their animations give swashbuckling? Their voicelines? Their abilities? I mean, the answer is objectively no. I don't know, I think the characters have become homogeneous from a writing standpoint, and it's sufficient for the devs to just paint them with the broadest possible brush of "happy character", "sad character". See Venture, see Illari. Even the best-written OW2 characters (JQ and Ramattra) are flat relative to their OW counterparts. The specificity of a Tracer or a Zenyatta is gone, sadly. They've gone from creating unforgettable characters to forgettable ones, simply put.
@S3nCh4n

OW2 devs need to realise what drew players to their favourite characters are their roles in the different major plotlines in the ow universe. But I did realise that most of the original leads for OW1 (concept artist, designers, writers) have left during the content drought. Hence why you see new characters struggling to fit into the universe and don't really have intricate connections with the original cast.

To add to the “Overwatch killer” conversation: people generally want a killer because they fell out of love with a game and nothing else really scratches that itch. Fortnite doesn’t get the same energy towards it because people love the updates and they make changes that please most people. Overwatch, on the other hand, has to appeal to so many different groups, from 6v6 enjoyers no role limit enjoyers, support/dps/tank mains, one tricks, etc etc, so there will always be a group that wants a game to do what they love from Overwatch but that appeals to them.

If we want to normalize it, then stop highlighting it. Anything under a spotlight will never be normal because it's under a spot light. Fine, venture is NB, i don't care. No one cares. I don't care who the imaginary characters like to date either. There's more conversation about their gender than the actual gameplay and implications of her kit. That's what most people are annoyed by. I had to turn off numerous streams on their test launch because EVERYONE was just talking about pronouns, policing people, or being weird about it. Both sides are just so frustrating to deal with i just want to move past this.

1:50:45 you guys acknowledged that you weren’t discussing ventures gameplay implications in ow. Why dont you have separate podcasts dedicated to political topics, LGTBQ, and current day racism. Its clear these issues are important to you. It’s one thing to talk about it in the debate. It’s another to let these topics, which are important, consume a podcast that we the audience assume to be similar to previous discussions . If you all are aware that you are drifting from gameplay discussions that are non-political, then I would assume you’d be aware that much of your audience would be upset by it. That doesn’t mean they are bigots, many are upset that these issues took precedence over gameplay discussions in the context of this podcast. Again, I agree these issues are important ,I agree with your guys takes. But at this point just title the video accurately, or create a separate podcast talking strictly about these issues. By mixing gameplay discussion and political discussion you don’t give either the time they deserve to be debated thoughtfully.

They care more about seeing a dumb little guy blowing things up or hearing big muscle robot talk sexy and random shit like that that DONT affect your gameplay. The reason why OW is different to Call of duty or CS or Apex or Val is that there’s so many people that enjoy the non-gameplay aspect of it and dont care about if something is broken or unbalanced or not. Gameplay couldve been the focus if unfiltered hatred wasn’t the response from so many in the first place but it’s important to address those issues. Even if 10 people learn something from this video, thats a good thing. There’s 500 other videos on other channels that discuss gameplay, there will be many videos on this channel that discuss venture gameplay. Let them spend an hour on addressing whatever issues there are, its not that big of a deal

@@RK9. The entire point is that I, and apparantly a lot of other ppl here, do not enjoy political content connected to OW. I play it for the competetive nature, and don’t rly care about the political aspects of the characters. Therefore I didn’t enjoy the podcast this week. In other words, my opinion on the episode. And yes, I will look at other content, but I will also respond on what I thought about this content, as this was not the type of content I enjoy. I do that to give feedback on the type of content that I do enjoy. If everyone did the same you would get a balanced picture of what the opinion of the community is. What is done with that feedback is another story, but it will at least to some degree be a information resource to SVB on what the community likes through the most popular comments. If giving feedback wasn’t the intended use of the comment section, why have a comment section to begin with. Lastly about «just watching other content». Unfortunatly there is no other podcast that deliver the same product group up does. The biggest creators attend and it has, as far as I have seen, the best exchange of ideas. So while I will watch other content, it won’t be of the same quality. Group up (for now at least) can’t really be replaced. If what svb said in the timestamp over is his honest thoughts, I think he underestimate the quality of his own balance discussions. So you can’t really «just go and watch someone else», as they don’t deliver the same product. At the end of the day SVB decides what he wants to make. If he wants to talk about identity politics, nobody is going to stop him, regardless of wether I or anyone else enjoy it or not. Though I do wish he titled it diffrently, because it gave me and I assume a lot of others false expectations in the context of previous character podcasts. That is also likely why the feedback is as rough as it is, becaue people expected to get something diffrent.

@@RK9.I think the majority sentiment is game play is what matters most it’s not like OP is one of 5 people who don’t care about lore/characters backgrounds and all that. It seems so weird to frame the minority as a majority but then also seek more representation for it like the whole reason its not done more is cause a majority don’t care. And that’s not to say it is bad to care about it cause you still have a point that some people do play these games for different reasons. I wanna play fun shooty game where I get to be cyborg ninja or giant gorilla with a jetpack, but if someone else sees venture and feels so validated that a character like them exists in the game that’s ok, I also think it’s ok that people who play games to turn off brain and not care about political things to be allowed to do that. We play the same games for different reasons. Same way I played baldurs gate for some fun challenge in an rpg game where a friend of mine installed a mod to make everything die in one hit because all they cared about is the story and romance and I would never tell them “oh why are you doing that you are defeating the whole point of the game” LIKE NO IMMA LET THEM ROCK SAME WAY THEY DO WITH ME.

If I remember correctly in German you have the word "Sie" which is used for She but is also used for you (in a formal sense if for example you would talk to someone older or in power). Players ask for representation, canonically 🏳‍🌈 characters, a.k.a. official validation, GET IT, but then there's STILL drama. *That's* what annoys me. Why isn't this podcast about the GAMEPLAY? Why is the community arguing 'my truth vs. your truth' as if the same people that asked for this aren't the same ones who made up fanfiction that misgendered characters and made them gay/straight when they're not??? Overwatch is such a beautifully diverse game, and that's why I love it so much, but you can't force all your beliefs onto other people, especially when it's only about fictional characters. As long as someone isn't disrespecting YOU or a teammate who is a real living person, it should be a non-issue. Not everybody cares, not everybody understands, not to mention people make mistakes by accident because they haven't internalized those beliefs, or just during the chaos of call-outs. And some people's beliefs will directly contradict yours. As long as they're not hateful but keep it friendly instead, get over it and get on the damn payload.

As a native Dutch speaker I never imagined getting to hear my mother tongue in my favorite video game. Boiling down the people who misgender Venture and people like her, to being only one of two things; Either honestly mistaken and therefore forgivable OR intentionally bigoted and therefore dismissible, is completely bigoted all on its own. Basically, “anyone who disagrees with me and my worldview is a bad person.” That’s bigotry 101. Not being able to accept that there are people who are good, honest and don’t wish you any harm, but have their own beliefs and feelings that might contradict your own is a huge irony in this whole pronoun debate. But nobody wants to have that conversation, they’re only willing to talk to people who will admit up front that they are willing to buy into their mindset.

Capitalism is thought to be the reason for: poverty, starvation, wars, poor economy, murder rates, sexism, racism, prisons being bad, and a laundry list of other things that are affected by many other aspects than your countries economic model, most of which exist in almost if not every country and many of which are worse in countries that aren't capitalist.

What we got was rants about capitalism bad and about pronouns for majority of the podcast. I’m not saying I didn’t expect it to be raised. Like sure yay representation. But we the ow audience are not here to hear your political opinions and world views shoved down our throats. It’s one way to alienate portion of your viewers but unlike some of the guests on this podcast who seem to believe what venture identifies with is more important then the gameplay it’s the other way around for everyone else. If you want to have a debate about pronouns and how capitalism ruined society fricken title it that and get guests who have different worldviews so it’s not just a circle jerk. L episode

In my opinion you cannot call something an "Overwatch competitor" if the game isn't even in first person. I would go so far as to say the FPS perspective is an intrinsic part of what makes Overwatch feel like Overwatch. Simply having an objective based pvp game and slapping on some moba abilities doesn't automatically make you an Overwatch-like. As someone with over 2000 hours in OW, Marvel Rivals looks infinitely more like Smite than it ever does to OW. The comparisons to OW are downright baffling to me

Reinstalled the game yesterday because I had to quit tank but after playing Venture I feel like this was a DPS character made for me! The poke/Brawl heavy play style is something I love! Plus the fact that I have movement options to get away if I start making mistakes, but that's only if I manage my cool downs properly. I think Venture might be great in a lot of Dive and Poke comps, with some good potential to take out stragglers that try and run away from a fight. Sometimes I feel like They are a trade hero... depending on the situation (Bap puts up lamp or I'm trying to fight a soldier or Cassidy) It seems like I have to give my life to take theirs. Like to kill a special target I have to die unless I have a healer. This isn't bad just something I noticed and it can help the team win sometimes honestly. I was fighting a Moriya because she kept killing our supports in the back line so I went to try and get her off of them.(We had a Hanzo but she faded circles around us not his fault it's mine 😂) and she did her ult and I was able to duk it out with her and kill her but I immediately died by a stray bullet and i couldn't dig because i needed to dodge some over her ult. She isn't the only example but she was the one that stuck out in my mind. Overall I like the hero a lot but I wish I had just a tiny bit more shield a couple points not any crazy like 25 maybe like 10. But I'm not a pro or anything just someone who played a lot of OW and this is my genuine thoughts after like 3/4 hours I'm gonna get back on tonight and go play some more. Bottom left person cares to much personally about the heroes characteristics rather than playing the game. Who here plays reaper cause they want to feel dark and edgy? Like what are ya’ll talking about..?

That's literally the reason this game blew up in 2016, and is still a major part of the appeal of the casual player base. You're telling me you don't think mercy mains like playing the cute girly character and only care about the mechanics?
