So glad I clicked on your video. I was.at Home Depot today picking up some pots & soil...Then I saw the olive trees & blueberry on display! I will definitely go as soon as they open tomorrow to scoop up a few. I can't wait to make my own olives to eat. I think 3 will be enough. Thx again

We had to leave this olive tree behind when we sold our home in nov 2021, but I just bought three new olive trees myself! Good luck with your olive trees! Let me know how they turn out!

Very cool! We just planted an arbequina olive tree in early spring, I was so excited to see tiny fruit on it today!... How did you determine ripeness and when to harvest?
@AustinTexasGardening3 жыл бұрын
I harvested when they started changing from green to black in September! You have to brine them first or they’ll taste like bitter soap, some brine guides I read online said you can brine for 6 weeks, but it took me a solid 3 months. Check out my grow/brine guide here - kzbin.info/www/bejne/hYO2ZZdprMaDhcU

thanks! I didn't know you are supposed to change the brine. My still seemed a little hard and sour when I tried them. Next time I will do better :)

I live near Mineola Tx....And I just got an olive tree. How did your olive do in the extreme cold? Did it survive?
@AustinTexasGardening3 жыл бұрын
Im glad you asked, stay tuned, im making an update video on it next friday - the short answer is - all the leaves fell off and it appeared dead, but its regrown completely to about the size in this video

Shout out to /u/capybarometer from reddit, who shared this informative page from Texas A&M Agrilife Extension on my post: agrilifeextension.tamu.edu/solutions/best-olives-to-grow-in-texas/ It looks like the Arbequina is the best available for Texas due to cold tolerance, and it's self-pollinating.
