Hi thanks so much for this video. I’m about to start my Dahlias off. Can I ask what’s the benefit of pinching the heads off the plant ? Great video x
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
Hi Michelle, Thank you for watching. Pinching off helps the Dahlias stay a bit shorter, rather than the plant bolting off and getting leggy. It also helps them stay a bit sturdy during any high winds during summer storms. I will do a video closer to the End of May or June showing how the Pinching benefits. You can pinch anytime.

@@peoniesofamerica oh that’s great thank you. Iv started some Dahlias off from seed and they’re a bit spindley. I’ll pinch the top leaves off them. Thanks again xx

Hi! Thanks for the info. I just bought a bag of tubers and when I opened the bag I have a few that have sprouted off the end of the stem. Will it still fully grow? And is it ok to have sprouts growing before I’ve potted them?
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank you for watching. That is awesome that you had some sprouts! Yes it will grow just fine. Place it in the pot or pan and give it some soil top and bottom, add some water and wait. If you have a sunny spot during the day or for 6 hours a day, that will really help it also.

How long after pre sprouting is recommended to plant in containers or garden.
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
Anytime, as long as you are free of any freezing temperatures. I have set mine outside, the days are in the upper 60's and low 70's. If you have access to sunshine, they will thrive quickly.

What are the temps and humidity in your grow room? What do you find is the temp and humidity in the grow room.
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
The Temperatures are staying right about 57 which is kinda of cool and will slowly pre-sprout, and the humidity stays right around 45%. I have moved them outside during the daytime, the sunshine is a bit warmer and Im hoping for quickly pre-sprouts. They can stay outside as long as your temperatures do not fall below freezing. But keep them from getting to much rain water in them until they sprout.

I’ve let my dahlia sprout get tall. Is it too late to pinch or take cuttings? Thank you
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
It is never too late to pinch out. Even if you missed pinching for months, you can still cut the plant back. No worries, pinch on! 🤗

I have seen videos of soaking the tubers prior to pre sprouting, what do you think of this?
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
Hi Debbie, I have not seen this process. Does make sense if your tubers are really dry. It should help them.

Hey there from Germany. I want to pre sprout my Dahlias in crates and I am very worried about the little amount of soil in there. but after watching your video I’m pretty confident it will work. but I am wondering for how long they can stay in that little bit of soil because I am sure if they have developed roots they won’t like to be ripped out of there? my last frost date is the middle of May so when should I start to pre-sprout them? what do you think?
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
Hi, My Crates are filled with Dahlia pre-sprouting. I am going to leave 2 crates full of them. Although, just remember the tubers are what get really large. The plants, depending on Variety will also get huge! I have only 4 tubers pre crate. You can always remove and relocate them if they get to large. Thanks for watching.

What is the ratio of compost to perlite?
@peoniesofamerica3 жыл бұрын
1:4. 1 cup of perlite to a Gallon of compost. or 4 cups of perlite to a 4 Gallon pot. I hope that helped.
