Turn up your sound. This male American alligator "growls" or "bellows" as a territorial display and to let females know he is looking for a mate. The male's impressive sounds are made with air, not vocal cords.
An alligator also makes low-frequency calls just before delivering its loud roar. The low-frequency sound causes the water to dance and form small bubbles around an alligator’s back. The noise is inaudible to humans, but another alligator a mile away will hear it.
