The cop is giving the mall security guard great advice. You have to document and record. If it is not documented it is like it never happened. The security guard need to record the date, time, incident, and all people involved. When he starts doing this (on a daily basis) he is building up a case. If the phone has accurate data information I would record the previous incidents as too.

DAR (Daily Activity Report) and IR (Incident Report) should have been required from the security company as well as the property owner. I worked private security and had to write them, I would turn in a DAR to my supervisor and a copy went to the property owner. Same as every IR I wrote went to the supervisor and a copy to the property owner. It creates a paper trail to back up and cover your own ass. In my state we also had to get permits (guard card and firearms permit from the state that was only used in conjunction with the guard card) if shit went sideways and we had to discharge our firearm and we didn't have those permits, we more than likely would have been charged as criminals. Building management can CT anybody, even if they work there. Being an employee does not excuse criminal behavior. And the building owner is liable if that employee injures anyone, especially after being made aware of a problem The business owner has remedies through the courts, but the easiest way to do this is have the building owner tell the business owner that the lease is about to be terminated for cause if the employee is not terminated.
