I’ve watched this review 3 times now. MAJESTIC! How beautifully dissected. My favorite quote: “It becomes eternal. When a perfume can make you smell death as an acceptance of eternity, then you’ve found your match, a reminder that it’s ok to one day be no more”... this quote gave me goosebumps all over! This review is filled with poetry. It’s such a magnificently dissected and comprehensive review, you’ve moved me to purchase this as well. I already had a decant of this, and I appreciated it for its art, but never actually got to fully comprehend it. Oh wow, Thank you! Needless to say, I'm blind buying this fragrance. I experience something similar with Strangelove Fall in to stars. It makes me feel as if I fade into eternity, and it feels soooo expansive. I have no choice but to be at peace. I just love it when perfume can touch us so deeply.

Magnificent review, Dacob! Thoroughly enjoyed this. I know certain perfumes smell good but I can’t articulate it like you. To me, this is Monterey Bay, particularly Monterey Bay Aquarium, with its cool, moist, cement walls (just like in this video) and life size replicas of the whales hanging in the atrium. Cloudy days and lunches by the sea. This has helped me to understand and better appreciate this amazing fragrance. Poetry.

So I came across this perfume by accident - I was trying to buy a Tom Ford at the airport and the guy said, “No, you really want this.” Felt a bit annoyed, but bought it on the strength of his recommendation and fell in love once I started wearing it. And on that holiday I actually had a proposal because a guy at a party was blown away by this scent on me. Anyway, only this perfume could have possibly have evoked such an intriguing, story filled review. I enjoyed it so much, Dacob - entertaining, hyperbolic, and yet so true!

Guerlain ONLY uses real amber gris. Other LVMH maisons are more prone to synthetic elements but Guerlain is the fragrance queen on the LVMH crown and they keep it very traditional for the most part.

This is absolutely a wonderful and creative review. Detailed. Creative. Organic, and pure. You should be the spokesperson for this fragrance! Seriously :) - I actually have this parfum, and have had it for over a year now. I hated it, and still hate it 😂, BUT I KEPT IT...Why? Because, after paying $200 for it during the pandemic, and not wanting to deal with the hassle of returning it :), I figured that I would be able to find a layering technique that would convince me to keep it. Smh. I am still not there, however, I realize that there is so much more VALUE in this fragrance than it's monetary value- This parfum is like reading a book; there are different chapters. Each day that I have FORCED myself to wear it 😂, I actually discovered something quite unique and magical each time. I am still not in love with it, but when I saw your review today I actually sprayed it twice again, WHILE listening to your theatrical review, to see if anything else could conjure up from the depths of its darkest realm. I will definitely be forced 😂 to wear it today, until I return home for a shower, but at least this time, I will take the time to read ALL of the CHAPTERS of this parfum that were written. Awesome review! It takes ARTISTIC individuals to completely understand it 🙂 Great job!

I absolutely love Encens Mythique. However, SPERM WHALES produce ambergris, not humpback whales (saw them in the preview pic).

But... I would like to point out to you that I don't produce ambergris either and yet I am in the preview pic as well... I know this about sperm whales (not sure there was a need to spell it all out in capital letters to get your point across). If you have the drive to wax poetic on a fragrance for 40 minutes and want to show some credibility, being detail oriented will go a long way. Take it with stride and grace. I used caps for emphasis, because bold and italics aren't options here. Also, I'm good on the Patreon, but thank you. I've read 'Floating Gold: A Natural (and Unnatural) History of Ambergris', have a stunning piece of white ambergris from NZ that I will last me for years of tincturing. It's a love of mine, mate. Hello Dacob, When I first clicked on your video review my thought was, this will probably be a bit of a waste of time. But, when you actually got ‘in’ to talking about the scent, my thought was, oh, he’s touching the abstraction, I hope he can keep that up. I hope he doesn’t go to specific, and you didn’t. Then I’m thinking, great, can he keep the abstraction? Will his concentration overcome the mind’s splintering with the strain? Then I’m thinking, oh….he’s comfortable there, and he can go to the concrete, back to the abstract without losing his thread. Then I’m thinking, Peter, you were so wrong about this guy, he’s painting the abstraction of smell, not just in images, but in story (and keeping the art) AND, oh, so great, he’s feeling the emotion now. Ok. So at this point, I’m thinking, stop. Let him in And so I did Then your poem Journey (the mystery, the surrender to you was so…..’sojourn ic’. I felt we took a step into spirit together. The step was to acceptance of a state we both fear and love, death. Like the climax of life, to die. And so I hung, like the upside down whale in the blackness with you. And something I have learned these past years, when you’re connected, the fear goes. So the light that was seeping down, this time around, was the light of being connected to you my friend. I’m sure when I try this scent, it won’t be the same, I will have to surrender again, to a different song. But I did want you to know, I could go there with you. Telling you this might be a little step towards my light seeping to you when you’re ‘there’. A heart that reaches out for love’s attraction to love. It must have been quite a life this one. For to bring such a gift as your is often met with sufficient disturbance to reveal it. And good, honest work to polish it. I congratulate you, brother. I hate to tell u but the ambergris in this is synthetic. Perfume houses and perfumers lie all the time. I’ve seen it for myself many times. If you’re affected by synthetic ambergris, you’d know immediately that this perfume has synthetic ambergris. Do u realize how incredibly expensive ambergris is? Even perfumes that do contain real ambergris only have a teeny tiny amount in it and the price is crazy high. What i will tell u is that the synthetic ambergris in this perfume is of the highest quality. Which is why you think it’s real. Wasser did a great job with this one.
