This car should be called "Project: Loud n' Sticky". Wow. It's a fully built Honda S2000 (AP1) with all the mods, all the grip, and a dash of aero. Driving cars like this is a special day indeed. (Goodbye headphones.) Mods and all that in the video!

I like it too. Jason Fenske from Engineering Explained makes a video about all the good stuff in it that made him buy one but for some reason people seem to almost get disappointed whether because of the power or tuning capabilities... The setup on this video looks perfect for it, the best so far. Instead of focusing on the power, they focus on the grip, power/weigh and balance. I think it's one of these cars where adding a big turbo is not the answer but instead, doing exactly that, transforming it into a race car. Lightweight, naturally aspirated.... I would change the exhaust for the road or add some kind of valve system (it's a race car I know)

@@Platypus_Warrior well a supercharger would make this setup even better and on the stock f22's they get like 420-430ish whp.

Jeremy Lopes I beg to differ. As the owner of a 700hp turbo ap1, the best of both worlds is having the grip along with having the power. It’s a marvelous car!

@@smooth_ops2942 I like superchargers but you would have to lighten the front somehow. Move the battery to the rear, fiber glass hood. I don't know, seems like the power on this car is already plenty to me and I like light cars anyway

I won't forget working at a Honda delear when these things first came out and i said a 4cyl? Pssshhh. Then I drove it. The smiles per gallon, the sound of that motor revving up to 9k, the fun going around corners and letting it slide out while being predictable is the reason this car has always been on top of my list. If you ever get to drive another. Try and find a stock ap1 with an intake. The soundtrack on it is glorious

I was a pdi tech when the ap1's came out and the b16 civic si's. I had a late night pdi to do on a sliver ap1 and had to make sure vtec worked. 4 miles and she floated right up tp 9k with no issues. They are amazing cars. My buddy has one with a built 2.4l stroker. Its 720hp but it becomes a death trap at that hp range.

This might sound like too much of a request. I love tunnel pulls. I remember when i was young and had a gsxr 750 and my friend had an r6 and we would run back and forth through freeway tunnels doing 2nd gear pulls listening to them scream. You guys do a handful of flyby shots, could you do external tunnel audio? You don't even have to record the video, you could patch the external tunnel audio over the in car view. And then, cause I know people will love this, you guys could keep a running list of "best tunnel pull sound" and make it a playlist of course.

To give you an idea how loud this is... In 1999, the S2000 (stock) was louder at wide open throttle than the Ferrari F355 Spyder.

MotorTrend made a Twitter today and said that Honda is rolling out a replacement parts catalog for the S2000, and they might need every owner’s help on what to offer in it. So you guys should definitely go there and check it out.

What a great case for keeping the high-revving NA, four-cylinder power plants alive and well. @Zack: revisit the honda prelude TST video with Matt driving from several years back. Also, see if you can get your hands on an un-molested Integra GS-R (or Type-R) for high-revving, modest horse power shenanigans. I haven't driven the S2000 (would love to). If it is anything like the GS-R (and better) then it must be a glorious experience.

The S500 was indeed under 1L... It was 500cc! The later S600 was 600cc, and the current version is a Kei car called the S660, because kei car regulations limit the engine size to 660cc. So the S2000's name doesn't (only) come from the year it came out!
